Yankees in the playoffs

The Yankees are going to the playoffs, after beating the Devil Rays 12-4 at Tropicana Field.
It's been a crazy season so far, one that had even Alex Rodriguez doubting they could make the playoffs, he admitted after the game. Of course, they wouldn't have made the playoffs without his contributions (53 homers and 151 RBIs so far).
Brian Cashman said after the game: "Our dream is still alive." meaning a World Series Championship.
Players were emotional and excited. As Derek Jeter said, "This is definitely the hardest one." He also said, "We're just getting started."
Mariano Rivera said: "This one, this one was special."
Joe Torre welled up with tears when told of several players' comments that he was the reason they are in this position.
Owner George Steinbrenner was on-hand and released a statement that included: "I'm elated. After a tough first half of the season when everyone seemed to lose faith except for our players and our fans, the team has really stepped up and shown themselves to be the champions that they are."

There is a story on Yahoo! Sports that the Dodgers are going to get Johan Santana for Clayton Kershaw and Matt Kemp.

The Yanks could beat the offer ... they should call up Minny. Their own is Carl something or other still? He has more money than GS though ... so we can't sweeten the pot ...

Just a thought ...

Okay, time for sleep ... I am fast asleep!

As long as Grady Little is managing the Dodgers, I don't care which ace they get... the Dodgers ain't winning squat

My God! The Rockies won AGAIN!

WE'VE DONE IT!!!

WHERE WAS STEVE PHILLIPS ON "BASEBALL TONIGHT"----TONIGHT????

OOOOOOOOHHH!!!!!

I"M PISSED WE DIDNT GET TO SEE THAT SMUG F%^K COWER IN SHAME!!! LOL...

PS...

I would've liked to have seen some of the past "regulars" tonight...

Myself being negligent I have no room to criticize.

REST UP FELLOW YANKOPHILES!!

WEDNESDAY....

IT BEGINS AGAIN. MUAHHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

PPS...DIANE, LUCY, AND "PACK LEADER" (CHIP).

WE MISS YOU!!!

YOU'VE HURT ALL OF US WITH YOUR ABSENCE!!!!

PPPS..

PHUCK THE REDSOX!!!

NINJA COME BACK

You know what I love about the Yankees and Yankees fans? They don't care about the Red Sox. I live in Boston, but I am from LI, and I will NEVER be a member of Red Sox Nation. Every day the papers mention how the Yankees did so we can be reminded of how many games ahead the Sox are of the Yankees. Who cares?! It just shows how insecure Boston fans are. Yankees will also rule!!

How 'Bout them YANKEES!!!!

Congrats Yanks, and Yank fans.

It wouldn't seem right without you in the post season.

Now, let October baseball begin...the regular season means squat.

Congrats to the Yanks. I think they did something that nobody here thought they could do on July 1st. The defied the numbers, spit on logc, and totally turned aroound what seemed to be the worst team money could buy. There comeback exemplifies everything that makes baseball so great.

Now on to some concerning news and something it seems that has been overlooked. On the surface, the injury to Ian Kennedy seems insignificant as Mussina has been reborn and he wouldnt be starting in the playoffs, but the injury is a very big deal and this is why:

Aside from Mo, Joba, and Vizcaino (although lately he hasnt looked great - overworked) the Yankees bullpen is aweful. Take those guys out and this could be the worst pen in baseball. In the post-, the bullpen could have been helped in a big way - not by kennedy but by phil hughes. True he has struggled in the first, but his stuff translatesvery well to the pen. Unfortunatly, he will not be an option to pitch out of the pen in the playoffs and that is directly related to kennedy's injury. Because of Clemen's hamstring, the Yankees need Hughes as a back-up plan in the event Roger cant make his start, or needs to leave the game in the 1st or 2nd inning. This means Hughes cannot pitch out of the bullpen - something the Yanks really could have used in the 6th inning, or even earlier if it was a close game where the starter was struggling. Had Kennedy not gotten hurt, he could have served as the Yankee's back-up plan for Clemens or for that matter Mussina if early in the game he looks like the Mussina of 1 month ago.

Looking at in this light, his injury is a major blow to the team for the playoffs and I havent even brought up the fact that this kid can pitch. In fact, if he was healthy, I would take him over Mussina any day of the week.

Fortunatly, they are playing the Indians who are a young team that swings at many bad pitches - which caters to Mussina's pitching style these days.

Clemens injury though has to be a concern especially since the back-up plan means a wekened pen.

Hate to rain on the celebration parade, but I am one of those eternally "half glass empty" fans more like a Red SOx fan than a Yankees fan. With any hope, the starters will give us 6 or even 7 strong innings and the only relievers we will see wll be Mo, Viz, and of course Joba. It remains to be seen whether they will pitch Joba on back to back days or 3 out of 4 days and it remains to be seen how he responds to it, but I think that the Yankees will officially suspend the Joba Rules in October. They better if they want to get another ring.

Yankees don't care about the Sox? That is a complete joke...they have had their eye on the Sox all year! I've read quotes from people in the Yankees organizations and heard the broadcasters on YES discussing the Sox ALL YEAR and I've been to Yankees Stadium and heard the fans discussing what the Sox were doing, even though the Yankees were playing a different team at the time. So please, spare us the "we don't care about the Sox" stuff, it just isn't true. The Yankees care about the Sox and the Sox care about the Yankees...that is the bottom line. That being said, I offer my congrats to the Yankees for coming back from the brink. They have certainly worked hard to get where they are right now and they deserve to celebrate. Now...on to October.........

Is anyone a little worried about the injury bug biting the Yanks again lately? Clemens is hurt, Giambi is hurt again, Matsui's knee and two things from last night's game bothered me: Posada grimacing in pain and holding his neck in the 8th and A-Rod grabbing his back after a swing at one point. The good news is they can now rest those players. The bad news for me is I have tix to the Yanks-O's on Sunday, taking my son and nephew (his first game and he's 18!) but it looks like we'll be seeing the likes of Clippard, Bruney, Sardinha etc. At least we should see Torre's usual fun with the last game where the players will manage and coach the game.

Ok my silence is broken.

If that Nudge ever comes on here with the Orson Wells Bullcrap predictions again I'm hitting him with My mouse! from within the PC haha,

Anyways congrats to the Bronx Bombers.

Congrats to the several posters on here who was more sane than I and believed this team could do it. we still have a battle to win.

Also credit to the dude who said from way back this team need to blend Youth and vets, he said this back in may and we laughed his ass off this site haha.

Bomber-
We all had our moments didn't we? Some guys freaked out after the first week of the season, some folks wanted everyone traded/fired/released and some believed in this team the whole time (except a few outbursts of anger now and then), but this team is in the playoffs, hopefully for a good long run.

Seeing Joe T. bawling a bit last night was hard to watch...sometimes we forget the stress that these folks are under and you could see he was relieved to be in but now the REAL stress begins. Oh man...where's my Zantac?

The one that really freaked out was Rick "STATS" Keyes. I wonder what Keyes thinks of ARod now. A few weeks ago he was calling for the head of Cashman. What a sports maven.

Congrats to the Yankees both the player and org. They put it together and secured our spot in the playoffs. To those Yankee fans who held tight with its a long season and did not abandon ship. Its a great day.

On to the playoffs, yes we have some issues with injuries but they are not the issue if we get good starting pitching and Joba, Mo, Viz,Kyle git it done. We can do it.

All the way baby!

Dont forget to mention to Mr. Roy Storing too. The guy who wanted to trade the youngsters for Gagne and revert to the old Yankee way; that is buy the stars and sell the farm. Look how that turned out. And recently, he's prediciting a 1st round win against ANA. Luckily, we dont face ANA and Roy, again, is way off base.

Jim A.,

Lot of banged up people on the team. Of all the ones you mentioned I would be most concerned about Posada. For one thing he is usually too stoic to show anything over some minor twinge; for another, his combination of skills will be so needed from now on. Rodriguez is more inclined to dramatize (remember the shoulder performance), so with him I would tend not to worry unless and until there is evidence of real injury.

One that you didn't mention is Vizcaino. I have been wondering if his uncharacteristic performance lately is due to a health issue. There are so many of those that are not mentioned in public until they become too glaringly obvious to deny.

Oh my God no ... Orson Wells ... I saw him on line with the Telsa documentary on You Tube.

Nudge is a great guy ... I wonder how he feels about all of this? When I think of him driving on the Robert Moses Causeway with the top down on his converible I can't help but smile ...

Well, they made the playoffs. And they will finish the year if they win this weekend with something like a 73 and 30 something record since May?

The low point was Cano throwing the ball off of his shoe ...

Viz's shoulder is not right ... he was bad, then good and now ... he must be hurting.

Who can say what happened to Masui after August?

They are one reliever short. Clearly we all can see this.

Now Ian can get married if he can't pitch ... he did his best. You never know when a pitcher will go down.

I still don't understand why Clemens' blisters were such a big deal, can't you pop them and bandage them like everyone else does?

Did he have on the wrong shoes?

For a million dollars every six innings you would think such things wouldn't happen. Sometimes I just don't understand ...

Anyway ... Joba, Mo and another reliever ... who will step up to be this year's David Weathers?

Moose has been reborn ...

Viz, Clemens, Kennedy concern me. No real lefties in the pen concern me.

Anyone still not want Lilly now? Even for the pen? But maybe Igawa can come in in relief and do ok.

He did well vs. Tampa but you can't walk people in relief.

Bruney decayed and that was strange to see ... Proctor was burned out early but gave his best to the team ... they should give him a full playoff share for putting it on the line, he was never afraid to take the ball.

As for Cleveland what is the scouting report? We will need Duncan to come through vs. CC ... this could be a great moment for him.

And what would the Mets give to have had Mr. Brian Bannister all year?

Well, there are no perfect traders ... just perfect trades.

What a season ...

I drank my face off last night while watching that game...I felt like I blinked and we went from 2 to 12 runs. Skimmed through the blog postings and am wondering if there was a Gloom impersonator last night. I mean, I think some of his posts were legit, but some of them, they just seemed like one of the anonymi games.

The funny thing about this blog is that I don't even read what Kat writes half the time. I don't see the point. I come here to read what you guys write and to debate.

John G. - I saw your response about the bullpen and I understand going with your gut, but a good evaluation, and the stats don't lie. Sure, stats lie, but that's when they're taken out of context.

Sorry about the silence from my end lately, work is crazy.

Who would have thought the Yankee season would be turned around not by bringing in players from the outside, but from promoting from within.

I've watched the Yankees celebrate clinching for 12 years and outside of the first 2 I don't remember as much excitement as there was last night. This could be my favorite Yankee team since 1998.

Chip,
Welcome back, hopefully you will stick around for a bit.
I have to agree with you on the celebration- even the oh so stiff Moose was jumping on Shelley Duncan's back out on the field, I couldn't believe my eyes. I hope this team feels it, I mean I hope they are just burning with passion like us fans are.
We even got to see George!

Marianne: Vizcaino worries me too, but hopefully he will rest and not be used until next week. If he's hurt, he better fess up so he doesn't hurt the team.

Since the Yanks and the Mets last played in the World Series in the Year 2000 ...

Market capitalization of all US stocks grew from $17.7 trillion to $35 trillion.

(More dollars chasing the same about of stocks, and now foreign companies are fleeing our exchanges, it was in the USA Today Money Section the other day ...)

In 2000, gold was $273 per ounce, oil was $22 per barrel and the Euro was worth $.87 per dollar.

Today, gold is over US$ 700 per ounce ... oil over US$ 80 per barrel (will go to 200 if we bomb Iran which means US$ 8.50 or so for a gallon of petrol) and we are at about US$ 1.40 vs. the Euro.

Those indicators don't lie, while everything else seems so grey. It's chilling. How many people know these things?

It would be interesting to see how the prices for baseball games have gone up over the last seven years. Has anyone done a study?

And let's say the worth of the Yanks as the number one franchise ... GS bought the team from CBS for US$ 25 million and now they are worth more than 1 billion or so? That's an amazing investment.

In Ed Lynn's book about the Yanks he spoke of that deal and how GS's father was proud of him ...

There was an article in the USA Today some time ago about how expensive Red Sox tickets are. One man said he takes his kids to see Boston's AAA team cause it is much more affordable. The prices they cited in the article seemed astronomical.

The new Busch Stadium's prices are outrageous ... to bring a family of 5 to a game with mid level to good seats and have all the goodies, plus petrol ... would be over US$ 500.

Like with the NHL, the average people can't afford the games.

And as for the costs of food at a game ... have you see the prices of fast food and grocery store food? I calculate something like an 15 percent or more rise across the board by the end of this year. (In New York prices are always way high I know.)

One more thing about Clemens blisters ... what is with these doctors? Both Carpenter and Mulder have needed DOUBLE surgeries within the same year or so ...

I guess health is not an exact science. But with all of these trainers and techno gadgets you would think we'd be further along.

Does money or love make the world go round?

Or is it baseball?

In defense of Roy - I too thought the Yankees should have gotten gagne and still believe that they should have.

What I do not believe is that they could not get him for less than Ian Kennedy. If that is the case than I agree with the decision, but if they could have had him for the equivalant of what Boston gave up I would have done it.

This opinion is also predicated on the notion that Torre would have still used Joba because I believe he was being called up regardless of the deal. Then again Torre has shown a love for veterans and that has often times been his fatal flaw. Its a shame to think that the Gagne to NY deal wouldnt have worked out because the manager wouldnt give a kid a shot -its a flaw of Torre's (he doesnt have many), but it is one that I think that should keep him from managing the team next year.

I know that Gagne has struggled mightly in Boston, but I also know that the Yankees could have a game or two get away from them in the 5th, 6th or 7th inning because Joba is either unavailable, or only availbale for 1 inning

With Gagne - this team would be better today than it is. Should they have mortgaged their future to get him? Of course not, but they have a ton of expendable parts and major league quality pitchers (granted not great ones) that will never crack the yankees rotation - DeSalvo, Wright, Clippard, Karstens. Maybe I am wrong and they couldnt have gotten Gagne for one of those types and a 4th outfielder or future utility man type.

My opinion is that the deal for Gagne wanst made because Cashman had to force Torre to trust in the kids. That is the same reason why the Proctor trade was made.

Hindsight is 20/20, but nobody could say that the Yankees were geniuss for not getting him or that the ed Sox were stupid for getting him based on his performace down the stretch. Nobody could have predicted that an if he gets one big out for the Sox in the playoffs then the deal would have been worth it for them

Sorry that was me ... I dont know why it says Anonymous ...

Strange ...

Well, enough Alan Greenspan for one day ...

How much are the playoff tickets for a good seat at Yankee Stadium and at Fenway? What are the scalping prices? I would like to know ...

Anyone interested in EJ Fagan's write-up on Tabata?

Hughes, I drank my face off too.

Jim A., I'd rather have some zanex over zantac to get me through this.

Everyone else - remember, anytime Steve Philips says something, the opposite will happen. Flashback to last December when we were all on this message board waiting on Pettitte. One night I guaranteed Pettitte will sign back with the Yankees. Why? Philips was on Michael Kay earlier and declared that his "gut" told him Pettitte will remain in Houston.

Throughout the season when he was saying the Yankees will not make the postseason, it only made me happy. I can't get mad at him.

Speaking of rookies -- hopefully Olendorf will get a good look down the stretch. I would like to see him come in to a close game in the 7th or 8th, maybe even with runners on in a 1 or 2 run game.

The division is a lost cause and because the Yanks have no chance of finishing with the best record it is absolutly worthless. They have made the Sox work hard down the stretch and not allowed them to rest their players. Now, as the wild card they avoid a cross country flight and if I am not mistaken get the scheduling advantage of an extra days rest.

It is time to audition players. Let's see what Olendorf has and lets see Hughes come out of the pen one time down the stretch and see how he warms up/throws/recovers. He should be skipped on his next start and come in from the pen to pitch an inning or two. Gives him rest and gives the Yanks an idea of his stuff.

As for the remaining games - every starter should be on a 90 pitch count - to get their work in The team shouldnt mail these games in, but players should get a day or two off especially Posada, Jeter and ARod.

Hughes,

very interested in the write-up on Tabata. Where can I find it?

Anon,

Some people on this list are quite well informed about economic and political issues, others are lucky if they can find their beverage of the moment. All alike come here for amusement and diversion, which baseball provides to more people than ever before in its history. Not only do more people actually attend games, but the rest have unprecedented television and computer access at little if any added cost over their normal use for education, work and recreation.

Attendance at a ball game today should not be compared to a time when game ticket prices (along with incomes) were lower, but with comparable entertainment costs today. I don't know where you live, but taking a family out for dinner and a movie is unlikely to be terribly far behind in cost here.

From your referring to gasoline as petrol, however, I would assume that your local reference points and those of most Yankees fans are not the same...

Welcome back Atticas! It's like Old Timers Day on here today.

Evaluating players: I think it may be a little too late to evaluate players, if you are not sure of them by now, you probably won't want them next week. It'll be hard to gauge a guy who pitches this week when the games mean nothing as opposed to next week when the switch is flipped and the games mean everything.

Steve Philips is a jack-ass. For how many weeks did we here that the Mariners would outlast the Yankees because of their starting pitching. Did he ever look at the Mariners starting pitching? It isnt exactly stellar.

He kept quoting the Yankees starters ERA post allstar break never accounting for the fact that 2 games pitched by Clemens and Wang accounted for about 20 runs in 4 innings. Think that may bloat a team's ERA. The guy has absolutly no clue and I hope his predictions continue to be wrong as he firmly believes there is no shot the Yanks resign ARod

Yes, I'm back baby. Hold your applause. I started a real job earlier this month. I hate the real world. And my life. However, it means that my August off is done, because now I get to be by a computer for all hours of the day once again.

Chris: Here's the link for the Tabata write-up. EJ Fagan writes some great pieces on the minor leagues. There's a state of the farm article there too that goes much further.
http://mvn.com/milb-yankees/
Also: http://mvn.com/mlb-yankees

After reading Fagan's Tabata write-up, the value of the steal is being debated. Fagan thinks that stolen bases are the least effectual action in hitting that does not involve an out. What do you guys think?

John G.- Fagan is a fellow "stat-head", so he and I generally agree. He has referenced some studies and formulas based on history to make this determination and I have to say it made me want to go back to college (I think you were the one who said that, but it might have been Larry).

Anyway, enjoy the articles.

Marianne

I concur.

(nice work) ;-)

Post Season Roster as I see it

We will need to evaluate our pitchers that are on the bubble these last few games in order to fill what I see as one last spot.....

4 Starters
-----------
Wang
Pettitte
Clemens
Mussina

8 Relief Pitchers
-----------------
Mo
Vizciano
Joba
Farnsworth
Hughes
Villone
Igawa

Whoever pitches the best will get to go out of these four....
Britton, Rameriz or Ohlendorf, Veras

I personally like Britton only because he is not a rookie. But in a close 2nd would be Ohlendorf.

Thanks, Michael.

(probably wasted, though);)

Again Marianne,

How much are the Playoff tickets? Simple question ...

PACK LEADER!!!

I'm glad you showed up today I wanted your opinion on the prospect of playing the Indians vs. The Angels

Do you think we're better off?

I'm a little wary of seeing Sabbathia against Matsui/Abreu/Cano/J Damon

let alone TWICE!!!

Just curious...

Anthony,

Look it up.

But you needn't post it, unless you can relate it to some rational point.

Ant

PLEASE!!!

Stop!!

YOu've been trying to ruin this blog for months why?

Did Jeter steal one of your student-girlfriends?

SERIOUSLY WE ALL KNOW YOU HAVE SOME RIDICULUS ANTI YANKEE AX TO GRIND WHY PRETEND??

BY THE WAY,

ANYBODY ELSE NOTICE THAT "PROFESSOR ANT" SINGLE-HANDEDLY DROVE LUCY AWAY?

Clearly playoff tickets are not overpriced when you consider how much tickets will go for on Ebay above and beyond what they cost. Take into consideration that because of Ebay, NYS has changed its scalping laws. It's a crazy world, maybe, but money is what you make it and how you choose to spend it. How much do you think tickets to the Yanks final home game in 2008 will cost on Ebay next year?

GO SAVE THE WORLD ANT

Well...

It sure looks like the Sox are facing the LAAAAAAAAAA Angels, while the Injuns and Yanks square off.

Sox, historically, have had their way with the Angels, especially at Fenway...but really, what does that have to do with the next series?

I wish the Sox didnt have to travel to the west coast..but oh well...better than the team going home for the winter eh.

Cleveland is playing inspired baseball right now...so the Yanks have their hands full as well.

In any event, you know it's gotta come down to the Sox/Yanks for the ALCS...anything less just wouldnt do.

Its just basic economics ... I can see y u r afraid since u trust the system and r so lost ...

Cas

I hope we get our wish...

Anyway it is what it is ... but y is everything so much more expensive ? Sorry this put u in a tizzy ... sheesh ...

Someone on ESPN (I thonk Kruk) said- Yes the Yankees are 6-0 against Cleveland, but Sabathia didn't pitch in any of those games.

Well, if they wanted to be fair about it, they might have mentioned that the 3 Yankee starters vs. Cleveland in April were Wright, Igawa and Rasner. The 3 starters against them in August were Hughes, Mussina and Pettite. So the Indians did not face Wang and Clemens, who will pitch 3 of potential 5 games.

One concern: Yankees only have 2 catchers on 40 man roster. So if Molina or Posada were to get injured in Round one, Yankees would have one catcher for the rest of the playoffs.

cs07,

One of the City tabloids said this morning that Nieves is in Tampa waiting and hoping for someone to have just that thought...

Cas: I have to say that since you've returned you've been a much more tolerable Sox fan. I can even appreciate your commentary these days. As a result, I will refrain from my former "Redneck from Maine" remarks.

CS: If one of the catchers were to get hurt and would be forced to miss considerable time (i.e. the remainder of the playoffs), they would be placed on the 60 day DL so that a roster spot could be opened up. I was surprised that we didn't see Nieves.

I'd like to hear peopele's thoughts on this. I think we'll have people on both sides, which will be fun.

After reading Fagan's Tabata write-up, the value of the steal is being debated. Fagan thinks that stolen bases are the least effectual action in hitting that does not involve an out. What do you guys think?

Nieves would be the guy- but I think it is a rule that your 40 man roster has to be set before the playoffs. Then if someone on the 25 gets hurt in the first round you can bring in one of the other 15 guys (from the 40 man) for the next round. So they would have to put Nieves on the 40 man before Monday.

HYD,

Sorry I'm not more knowledgable about this, but is the implication here that a base which is stolen is less of a positive than a base gained by some other method of advancing the runner?

Must go take my Mother out, but will check in later to learn more.

After getting 5 RBIs last night, Robbie Cano has an outside shot to get 100. He would need 6 RBIs in the final 4 games. I really hope he gets it.

Okay guys, first off, keep it down today.

I have a hangover!!!!!

How do you draw a head with an ice pack on it using the computer?

Nah, just kiddin'. :-) :-)

HYD,

I believe in stats like you do, but sometimes, they lie. Even Spock used his "gut" once in a while. LOL

Let's take our upcoming series with the Tribe. We swept them during the season, 6-0. What does that mean come next week?

Absolutely nothing!

Anyway, I'm not worried that the Tribe is hot right now. We were hot last year going into October and what happened?

You all know so I won't tell you.

I'm just happy that we played our butts off as our 70-38 record since May 29th shows and got to the dance.

Let me say to our Red Sox buddies here, Congratulations on the division! Your boys didn't fold down the stretch and held off a furious charge by the Yanks. You deserve the division!

Good Luck with The Mouskteers! You'd better grind them into Angel meat or....

DON'T SHOW UP HERE AGAIN!!!

LOL

HYD

When I look at statistics I agree that steals look virtually meaningless but when I watch games I feel the opposite.

It's weird but everytime I see a stolen base turn into a sac fly it overrides statistical data and my rational mind.

Im a hypocrite i guess.

Haven't heared from the "Sheffield is far superior to Abreu" contingent on here in quite awhile, so an update is warranted:

Abreu- .282 16 HRS 99 RBI

Sheffield .266(!!!) 25 HRs 74 RBI

And as far as the 2 veteran pitchers the Yankees dumped over the winter:

RJohnson- 10 games- 4-3 record
JWright- 3 games- 0-3 record

And it's quite possible that Vizciano, Ohlendorf and Britton all make the post season roster.

Great job, Cash!

Not to stir the pot or Ant's ire, but in 2001 I paid $500 ea. for bleacher seats at Yankee Stadium (got 'em on eBay). The Yanks won that game behind Clemens and a guy sold me tickets to the next night's games for $400 ea. and that was the first Byung Young Kim meltdown so I was so excited I bought tix for the next game at another $400 ea. (by this time my wife wasn't speaking to me anyway so what the hell, right?). I drove home to VA after the third game, right from the stadium, fell asleep at a traffic light near my house and woke up after about 15 mins. when a Taxi blew the horn at me, I got home at 5 AM, crawled to work the next day and you know what...IT WAS WORTH EVERY BIT OF IT! (until games 6 and 7 of course).
Then in 2003 I got tickets from a disgusted Cubs fan for $250 ea. and well, I had to watch Josh Beckett shut our boys down...NOT WORTH IT! Well...a little. Yankee Stadium + World Series = No better place on earth at that time.

HYD,

Please dont refrain from the "redneck from Maine" comments on my behalf.....I truly dont mind. In fact, I am a redneck from Maine...and quite proud of it!

You're not a redneck Cas.

You're the axe guy from BudLight.

By the way, that's a BIG bottle opener! LOL

Hey guys,

I just went to take a peek at the Mets blog to see what the reactions were to last night's game.

All I have to say about that is.

"WHERE IS EVERYBOBDY?"

It's a ghost town over there.

The guy who runs the blog, Dave Lennon, seemed quite annoyed that the Mets sold 51,000 tix for the game last night and Shea was 1/2 filled.

Innteresting. This is the team that's going to take NY back?

As A-Rod said. "HA"

Ant Colony's nonsense point of views on this blog are about as useless as Carl Pavano on the post-season roster. hahahahahahaha

Jim A and Phucker,

Don't worry about the post season and our injuries guys.

I have it on good authority that Ant talked to Budda about that.

Hi Ant!

If Budda didn't look like Liv Tyler, Ant won't talk to him.

It's certainly nice to "sneak" into the playoffs via the wild card, especially after being "written off" by all but the "ardent few", but come on. The goal is to win the World Series. Stop all the celebrating, and come back to reality. Anything short of a World Series Championship, is an absolute failure.

HAHAHAHA

Nice work Jim and John LOL!!

Roy,

Given the shape of the Yanks 2 short months ago, I'd say there is good reason to celebrate clinching a berth in the post season...the same holds true for how far the Yanks advance...to even get to the post season was remarkable...you, as I recall, was one of the folks that wrote this team off, many times over, over the course of the season.

Roy,

I don't think that we sneaked in. I think that we had to bust our a$$es and play .650 ball to do it. We dug the huge hole and had to do it the hard way, but to me anyway, it was almost as rewarding as 78.

You have to celebrate a little, Man. Even the Yanks popped the corks last night and let off some steam.

Allow yourself to enjoy it Bro! We fell a bit short on the division but, this is pretty sweet.

Come next week, it's time to get serious again.

"ROY",
"baby" steps, one "step" at a "time". We're "celebrating" because we are "relieved", but we won't "celebrate" too much as we know the "ultimate goal" is the "world series". We all "know" that.

Sneak into playoffs Roy? Just last week, they had an opportunity to contend for the A.L. East title. Currently, they have a 4.5 game lead on next team out of WC. Sneak is hardly the right word. Perhaps determined? committed? While I agree that not winning a WS is disappointing, celebrating a berth into the postseason, something only 8 out of 30 teams can do, after playing a 162 game schedule, is most certainly deserving.

roy, your posts continually amaze me. not only do i not get the purpose on half of them, but the other half downgrade any success the yankee team and/or a yankee individual accomplishes.

Miggy,

Roy wants to celebrate if we win the whole echilatta.

He's seen us win division titles and a couple of pennants the last 6 years with not getting the big prize.

I understand where he's coming from.

Jim A,

"Stop" picking on "Roy" because "he" likes "to" use "quotation" "marks".

You're a "meanie"

Looks like there's a chance the Sox will play the Angels in round one, starting on the West Coast. How sweet would that be?

Roy, I take any chance to celebrate! It hasn't even been 24 hrs. Gimme a break.

Starting on the west coast??...how do you figure that ed?
