Quite frankly, I don't want Arod to leave the Yankees through FA but if this was to pass. Why couldn't we win. Scott Brosas and Charlie Hayes were our third basemen at different WS wins.

This is why I have no problem with the Yankees playing hardball with Arod and his Opt-out clause.

Baseball may have one thirty million dollar a year player at this time but one is more than enough. I can go to a game and purchase a decent seat and a meal before hand whenever but I don't have a little boy or girl anymore to take their all grown up. How can the average Joe pay for these so call luxuries. Its wrong and baseball must address the issue. What I trying to say is Arod is well compensated for a guy without the the ring. He's not the reason for the yankees failure to advance but he should have played above the the rest of the team in these recent series.

If Mattingly leaves the team ... if Girardi is hired, then to me he is quitting on the team and not being a good soldier.

His time will come eventually.

Everyone has such an ego it seems ... you need a good core of leaders/coaches. More than one for sure. Pena, Girardi and Mattingly would all compliment each other.

As for this offseason ... get Johan and Kazmir, one or the other or both. Both is a dream. Get Gregg from the Marlins and Ludwick from the Cardinals or Colby Rasmus if you can.

If A Rod leaves and goes to the Mets, so what? Put Cano at 3B and get Phillips from Cindy to play 2B. His 30 HR's will be fine and he plays very hard.

With the Yanks going the "home grown" route, extending A-OPT for all that dough is a recipe for disaster. Eventually, the cheap, young players like Melky, Hughes, Chamberlain, etc., are going to resent the disparity between their salary and what A-OPT gets. Throw in the A-OPT Oct. "no shows", and the team will self destruct. Hopefully, the Yanks will pull a Torre 2, make an offer they are confident he will refuse, and end A-Opt's Yankee career. First the "Torre Fiasco", next, either Mattingly or Girardi is gonna leave Yankee Land feeling they have been "jilted", and then the A-Opt circus. This entire off-season will continue to be a circus, indicative of the inexperience of H\H.

I agree with Larry M on AR. Yeah, it would be nice to have him back, but we haven't won anything with him here and we did win with guys named Brosius and Hayes. Just goes to show that he isn't a guarantee of anything. Make him a decent offer and if he walks away, oh well!

IMO Girardi is the right choice and the one the Yanks want too. Their problem is what to do with Mattingly? I said to have him further tune his skills as the bench coach under a 2nd manager with the understanding that he is next in line. Or, if Donnie can't check his ego to work under Girardi, then he could go manage at AAA for awhile (to get the experience of managing). Then there would be a track record of his player moves and game decisions, etc.

However, many reporters don't see him coming back if he doesn't get the managers spot. Again, I say oh well! This isn't a popularity contest. It's about getting the right person(ality) for the job at hand. If Donnie goes home, then make Pena the bench coach. It should be about the TEAM, not the individual egos. They all COULD work for the common good of the team, if they just check their egos.

Many All-Star caliber players on this team have had to check their egos - Giambi, Damon, Mussina, Matsui, etc. and accept lesser roles for the good of the team. Why can't Mattingly do the same??? His day will come.
