A-Rod, Yankees agreed to 'financial parameters' long ago

arodcyn.jpgSo get this.

Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees agreed to the financial parameters of the deal days ago, I'm told by someone familiar with the negotiations. It is a 10-year deal believed to guarantee him about $275 million.

A-Rod and Hank and Hal Steinbrenner may have met in person yesterday for the first time, but it wasn't the first time they spoke. No, no, no. They actually started speaking again over the telephone a few days ago, the person told me, adding that their negotiations on a new contract started really heating up over the weekend.

A-Rod did the talking with Hank and Hal. Not his agent, Scott Boras.

The person familiar with the negotiations told me it was clear when A-Rod first started seriously talking about a return to the Yankees, that he did so out of regret for how everything broke down, and out of fear that the Yankees were through with him. And it was clear Boras was not in the picture. At least not early on.

I have also confirmed that the "third-party" that is responsible for setting this all up were Goldman Sachs employees John Mallory and Gerald Cardinale.

When A-Rod decided he wanted to return to the Yankees, he called Mallory, with whom he has had a working relationship. Mallory, who works on the banking end and is based in Los Angeles, then reached out to Cardinale, who is an investor who works closely with the Yankees regarding the YES Network.

Cardinale, I'm told, spent the last 7-to-10 days alternating calls to the Brothers Steinbrenner and Rodriguez, trying to sooth everything over between the parties. He is believed to be the most instrumental person in getting both sides to the table.

Although the terms were decided days ago, the contract is not finished.

Not yet. But it will.

A contract of this magnitude takes a while to finalize.

Word is that the Yankees wanted to wait to announce the deal until after Rivera signed - because they were afraid that Mo would take offense and consider it a slight that he was "third priority" behind Jorge and Alex - given how he's reacting to being called 38 I can understand the Yankees worrying about his feelings. I don't remember Mo being so sensitive.

Mo can't think that, he got his offer the same day Jorge got his. Jorge just said yes faster. A-Rod is a complete wild card, I don't think anyone would have thought that was possible.

I'm really confussed on Mo's reactions to the Yankee deals, he keeps uping the anty. He asked for 3 now wants 4. The Yankees wenrt up to 3 from 2 would htey go to 4?

Let him stay with the Stankees so their hypocritical fans can now say they wanted him to stay all along!

Details of the deal are available in Tyler Kepner's NYTimes story, along with the names of the go-betweens who got the two sides talking again. Here's the link:

OYF:

Maybe Rivera just doesn't want to pitch for the Yankees anymore. I think he's upset with the fact that no other team has knocked on his door. Since the start of free agency there has been a perception that chasing Rivera was pointless and that he's coming back to the Yankees, and I think Mo thinks that the Yankees feel that way too. He's being overly sensitive about all of this and trying to drum up interest from other teams.

To me he's like the girl who thinks her boyfriend is taking her for granted and so she gets dolled up and heads out to the bar to get hit on by other guys. The problem for Mo is that all the guys in this bar aren't wasting their time because they know that no matter what he says, odds are Mo is going home with the Yankees at the end of the night.

Mo WAS great ... he is now VERY GOOD ... in 2 years he will be AVERAGE ... the past is the past, why should Yanks have to pay him for what he HAS DONE ... no need to give the guy $15 mill a year for years 3 + 4 when he will NOT be worth it. There is NO OTHER TEAM stupid enough to give Mo 4 years at $15 per. If they do, God bless ... let him walk. Yanks have put a very sweet offer on the table to Mo ... he should have signed it already. Stop bucking for the 4th year Mo Mo.

Bri

I agree.

Mo faces a couple of problems:

1. No team believes he wants to leave the Yankees and they don't want to just be used by him to raise the Yankee offer.

2. The only team that anyone believes he would consider leaving for (Dodgers) have a closer and have bigger needs to fill than getting a second closer.

3. Even if another team thought Rivera would leave they don't want to give Rivera 4 years any more than the Yankees do and won't match what the Yankees are offering him for 3 years. So Rivera will have to a) sign with the Yankees, b) sign with another team for 3 years for less money, or c) sign with a team for four years at about what the Yankees are offering him for three years.

If he leaves the Yankees - I'll take the two draft picks and be OK with it.

Trade Melky, Marquez, and a couple of other lower prospects to the Braves for Hudson and either Gonzalez or Soriano and then use the money earmarked for Mariano to sign Hunter to play CF.

I !@#$ing can not beleive this. I thought we finally got brid of him and now he is fback for 10 years? !@#$ the Yankees !@#$
A-ROD.
I have been tired of the Yankees since they started signing overpaid cry babies
It started with Clemens in 99 and it got persistantly worse this is the final straw for me I will not watch another Yankee game ever!!!!!
!@#$ A-ROD, HANK & HAL

MO LEAVE GO WITH TORRE AND STAY FAR AWAY FROM YANKEEROD STADIUM. POSADA DO NOT SIGN THE DOTTED LINE LEAVE.PETTITE RETIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JETER DEMAND A TRADE!!!!!!!!!

YANKEES TRADE ALL YOUR PROSPECTS HAVE A $400M
PAYROLLL AND LOOSE!!!!!!!!

Hey, it isn't necesssary for all you "ladies" to pile up on Mo. Mo is playing hardball for many reasons, but he will remain a Yankee. And with the right manager using him the right way - 1 inning only, Mo can pitch EFFECTIVELY for at least 3 more seasons.
Papelbon is garbage if used for more than 1 inning, and so are most other relievers - except Mo. Torre almost "burned out" Mo these past 2 years but since he is a physical specimen, he survived the abuse. With Girardi, you won't see this happening and everyone will marvel at how good Mo looks despite being 38,39,40 and 41 yrs old!!! His cutter is effective at 92 or 96 mph, so if he loses 3-4 miles off the fastball, he will still, I repeat, still be effective. Period.
Nerds!

Pastore,
Your Mets fan club membership card awaits you. Adios!

Looks like another seat is opening up. Hope it is Main Box MVP behind 1st base. Sold!

Damn....Looks like Johnny Law has caught up to Bonds...he's been indicted on perjury charges.

Just heard on Kay's show that Bonds was just indicted for obstruction of justice and pergury (sic).

Mike,

No one is piling on Rivera - We all know why he is playing hardball, but it kind of makes him look a little pathetic to keep stomping around demanding stuff when there is absolutely no one offering him a contract. He's coming off more like a petulant child than the classy guy we all know he is.

Daily News also reporting that a federal grand jury has indicted Barry Bonds on perjury and obstruction of justice.

hmmm - perhaps my plan of having Bonds DH for the Yankees does have a flaw or two after all....

Guess all you kooks who wanted Barry Bonds will have to wait a while. He has been indicted.

Like I said -
Barry Bonds - Sing Sing

hard to hit the ball from Sing Sing, hey Chip?

Chip,

You know what parents used to do in the old days when a child was acting like a spoiled brat -

where's my belt.......

Mike From Jersey...
In the 2007 post season, Papelbon had 4 saves, ALL more than 1 inning.

FYI

as for Mo, who's piling on Mike? They guy has been GREAT ... he will go down as an All Time Yankee ... #42 will have a plaque in the OF when he's done ... he'll be a lock HOF ... all i said was there is no reason for the Yanks to go to 4 years ... I for one do not want a 42 year old Rivera closing games (and don't think for a second that it would be easy to unseat Mo from the closers role ... the day he gives that up he retires) ... so, 3 years and $45 mill is WAY OVER THE TOP for him and if Mo doesn't sign then there's something else going on here ... like Chip said and I said earlier ... NOBODY is going 4 years $60 mill for Mo so why should the Yanks????

How about the fourth year being optional depending on how he performs in the third? You can't say how well or how poorly Mo will perform when he's 42. When Clemens was 42 he was still lights out Cy Young caliber. I think an optional fourth is good also because it give Mo incentive to be the best possible year 3.

New York Tax Officials: Yankees Star Derek Jeter Is No Floridian

Quote:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,311830,00.html
New York City's quintessential A-list superstar, Yankees captain Derek Jeter, is in trouble with the taxman for claiming he resided in Florida during some of the biggest years of his Big Apple career.
New York state tax officials want Jeter to fork over what could be hundreds of thousands — even millions of dollars— in back taxes and interest for the years 2001 to 2003, when the baseball shortstop claimed residency in Florida, despite his high-profile presence in New York’s sports and gossip pages during that time.
Lawyers for Jeter, who has an off-season home in Tampa, Fla., dispute the claims that Jeter “immersed himself in the New York community” and made “numerous statements professing his love for New York" during the disputed period, according to documents published this week on a state Web site monitored by FOXNews.com.
The posting came in the form of an administrative judge's rulings on a number of seemingly mundane issues related to the ongoing case.
Click here to see the documents.

http://www.nysdta.org/Determinations/821646.ord.htm

Jennifer Brasile, who works with Jeter's agent Casey Close of Creative Artists Agency, said she would "absolutely not" comment on the tax dispute.

A New York City lawyer for Jeter named in the judge's ruling, Maria T. Jones from the firm Kramer Levin, declined to confirm that the baseball star was her client when reached by telephone.
The ruling shows that Jeter has actually claimed Florida residency since 1994, though he first came up with the Yankees late in the 1995 season. State officials aren't disputing those filings, even though Jeter became an increasingly prominent presence around town during that time period, often in the company of young starlets and other New York celebrities.
But the team captain's headline-grabbing purchase in 2001 of a $13 million apartment at the ultra-exclusive Trump World Towers on Manhattan’s East Side may have been too much for tax collectors to ignore.
In the years following the purchase, Jeter bought up even more space in the building, and at one point was shelling out $8,000 a month for a getaway rental in Long Island, also in New York state.
The Trump World Towers is one of New York's most elite residences. Jeter teammates Hideki Matsui and Alex Rodriguez have their own apartments in the opulent building, and so do other notable celebrities.
"That could be the red flag," said one Manhattan attorney in private practice who handles state tax claims. "He may well be able to satisfy the requirements of Florida residency, though it might not seem that way for such a big-name New Yorker."
Jeter can probably afford to pay up if he loses the case. He signed a $189-million-dollar contract in 2001 — perhaps not coincidentally the first year disputed in the case — makes millions more in endorsements and enjoys a reputation for being mature and responsible with his wealth and fame.
Lawyers for Jeter and the state may still yet settle the case, before the superstar is forced to sit face-to-face with tax officials.
Yankee fans, meanwhile, reacted with a mix of disappointment and bemused sympathy to the news.
"Of course he lives in New York," said New Jersey resident Tony Benitez, a fan sporting a Yankees cap in Times Square. "But, hey, if I could get away with that, would I try it? What do you think?"

Jeter spends his offseason in florida, He has home down there?

My understanding (from fighting the VA tax authorities) is that there is a presumption that wherever you spend the majority of your time is your primary residence. Basically, Jeter would have to prove that he spent the majority of his time in Florida, rather than New York. I'm sure he spends the offseason (or part of it) in Florida, but that might not cut it.

Sully,

Your guy did well for "4 games". We are talking over the course of his career. I doubt he will survive as long as Mo has doing the "2 inning" save thing, although I may be wrong. Where is our statistician when we need 'em?

Yankee Bri
I agree with you in that I always wonder why teams up the ante when nobody else is bidding

I was living in SF when they resigned Bonds for a HUGE contract when a grand total of zero other teams were bidding on him

No smoke, no fire regarding Jeets residence. His accountants did some creative accounting and this will be fixed quick. Those guys will be getting pinkslips for sure.

Number geeks!

Those "4 games" were kinda sorta important.
I think enough to remove the claim that he is garbage with more than one inning.

A pretty good week so far with Posada signed, Mo to be signed very soon, A-Rod coming back, and the Bonds' indictment.

Unless I hit the Lotto or Jessica Alba agrees to be the mother of my love child, I can hardly imagine this week getting any better.

Seamonster,
In about 2 years, lets see how effective Poopelbon will be in a 2 inning save situation.

Sorry Viper, I have already had my way with Alba...mmm,mmm

Did you see her in "Into the Blue"

Oh, my - hey nowwwww!!!!!!

Good night , fellow Yankee fans (and you Bosox fan). Good night indeed!

New skipper Girardi thinks Rivera will stay with Yankees

Quote:
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3112443

BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic -- Joe Girardi plans to have Mariano Rivera in pinstripes next season.

"We want to sign Mariano," the Yankees' new manager said Thursday. "I already spoke with him on this trip and I think that there is a good chance that he will return to the team."
Girardi spoke while on a scouting trip to the team's academy in the Dominican Republic, where dozens of young players are hoping for a shot at the big leagues.
"You might find the next Robinson Cano or Melky Cabrera here," Girardi said.
Rivera is also in the Dominican conducting baseball clinics. The two met Wednesday night.
New York recently offered Rivera a $45 million, three-year contract to stay with the club and was waiting to hear back from the All-Star closer. If he accepts the deal, Rivera would be by far the highest-paid reliever in baseball.
Rivera, who turns 38 on Nov. 29, has spent all 13 of his big-league seasons with the Yankees and ranks third on the career saves list with 443. He filed for free agency this offseason.
The pitcher said this week the Yankees are his "first option." But if he can't reach a deal with New York, he'd consider following ex-Yankees manager Joe Torre to the Dodgers.
Girardi was also keeping track of talks between Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees.
"Alex has always said he wants to stay in New York. We will see how the negotiations go," Girardi said.

That's what i like about girardi, he already is doing his scouting of players and getting busy preping for ST and the season. girardi is a breath of fresh air, everyone will see the difference. Joe Girardi will be a great fit for this club and Rivera will back after he finds out there's no other offers out there that will be close to what the Yankees offered.comments anyone?

Without Andy we're still screwed.

Yankees "Hotstove" is on YES

Lowell Weighs Offers From Red Sox And Yankees
Read Dan Roche's Red Sox Blog
http://wbztv.com/topstories/local_story_319142643.html

(WBZ) BOSTON Mike Lowell has a major decision to make.

WBZ's Dan Roche has confirmed the free agent third baseman has drastically different offers from the Red Sox and the Yankees on the table.

Roche has learned the Red Sox have a firm offer of a three-year contract worth $36-to-$40 million.

The Yankees have offered the World Series MVP a four-year deal, worth $56-to-$60 million, according to Roche. But they would like him to play first base, if they re-sign Alex Rodriguez to play third.

Lowell hit .400 (6-for-15) in the 2007 World Series with four RBIs, three walks and a team-high six runs.

He set career bests by batting .324 with a team-leading 120 RBIs during the regular season.

He hit .348 in the postseason with two homers and 13 RBIs.
Can't think of a dumber move than to sign Mike Lowell to four years to play 1B.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I sure as hell hope that Cashman is simply kicking the tires to screw with the Red Sox.

I agree. It doesn't make sense to sign lowell to 4 years. Where is posada supposed to go when he can't cut it behind the plate?

Viper,
My heart stopped when I read your earlier post where you said "I already had my way with Alba".....you'll never guess what my last name is? :)

My niece Jessica might like you though....

Posada will go to DH with Lowell at First

ESPN is flashing "Breaking News" that A-Rod has agreed to the outline of a deal with the Yankees. They are saying they may not have a press conference until after Thanksgiving because he needs a physical and blood test.

Whew! At least there is some good news on a day when the HR "king" is indicted on perjury and other charges. Baseball just tries to shoot itself in the foot over and over again doesn't it?
You know who I feel sorry for? A few people: Bonds' kids and Jake Peavy, who won the Cy Young by a unanimous vote and nobody knows.

Ths is the 'breaking news' story on ESPN.com:

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3112799

Who knew Bo-Rod had run through this exact playbook before?

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/16/sports/baseball/16rodriguez.html?ref=baseball

Who knows what Papelbon will be in a few years.
Hopefully he will be the next Gossage
He might be the next Billy Koch

But for now, he's damn good

Me thinks the potential signing of Lowell for 1B is more about how he handles hitting in the POST SEASON vs. anything else. Getting there is great, but then we need SOME guys that can pick it up from there. And, he would provide another RH bat to offset the heavy LH lineup, kind of a RH Minky if you will. Plus, it takes another guy from the Sox. Not all that bad of an idea really!

I don't see it happening at all.

Jim A,

Actually, that was Mike from Jersey with the "I've already had my way with..." comment.

That Jessica is one fine gal, though.

Well, the offers are 3 years with Sox for $40 mil max, or 4 years with Yanks for $60 mil. Which would you take Jim A?

Isn't the talk about Jessica Alba and all the other girls on here way off topic for a YANKEE blog????? Some people get reamed out for that stuff on here. Let's be consistent!

Billy Boy,
I didn't say I wouldn't like it if Lowell signed with the Yanks, I liked him when he was a youngster in the Yanks' system, I just think at some point he decides to go back to Boston and while they may not give him the years he wants, I think they'll give him more money.
He's come pretty far from being a throw in who almost got the Josh Beckett trade shot down because Boston didn't want him, hasn't he?

Hey, I always stick to baseball.

It was just a light-hearted comment mixed in with my satisfaction of seeing A-Rod, Posada, and probably Mo coming back - along with the indictment of Bonds.

It's not like I went into some political or religious rant as we've often seen on these boards way too often.

Jim A

I think he is a solid player who can handle the pressures of post season and big market baseball...a blue collar gamer if you will. Like I said, a RH Minky type who I think would fit in well with the Yanks. And, he HAS come a long way from being a throw in salary dump. Looking at the offers, I think it would be hard for him to not take the Yanks offer. That's what my point was.

Maybe I should've accepted that offer afterall. Not looking like an insult anymore.

I don't like Lowel, why OVER pay for him for 4 years to play 1B. Why not wait and see if Tex becomes a FA next year and see if we can sign him. Younger, and swicth hitter with great # from the right side. 4 year deal would be too long unless they see him evolving to the over paid pinch hitter that Giabi has become in his 3rd and 4th year.

Good points OYF, but maybe Tex won't be available?

Even if Teixeira isn't available next season, the Yanks can do better than giving a 34yr old third baseman a four year deal to play first base.

Doesn't make a damn bit of sense and I can't imagine Cashman will do something so stupid.

I hear Atlanta is trying to free up cash to hang on to Tex, and then there's always the story about him wanting to play in Baltimore.
Lowell for 4 years isn't horrible, I think he's only 33 years old so
it's not like he's ancient. The problem I have with him is that he seemed to hit a wall in Florida and his production was dropping and having the Green Monster to bang balls off salvaged his career. At Yankee Stadium, that left field fence would be a tough reach for him, but I'd like to think he'd shoot for the gaps.

I like the guy and I wouldn't mind seeing this happen, but I just get the feeling that he will end up going back to Boston.

I also heard that the Twins were unhappy with one of thier "M" boys (Mauer or Morneau), does anyone remember reading anything about this? Evidently, they are not happy with the work ethic of one of them and would not mind dealing them.

This sucks.

This really sucks.

I'd much rather have Rolen, Lowell, Betemit or even a 51-year-old Brocious.

And I don't want to hear any horse$hit about A-Rod's stats and how if not for him, we wouldn't have made the playoffs.

I have said time and time again, the guy is physically the greatest baseball player of all time but he is soft. He's the most selfish athlete of our lifetime and the most insecure.

Ever since we swept the Mets in 2000, the objective of this organization was to make money first, hence the signing of a rediculous amount of stars thus setting attendance and television records.

TOO MANY CHIEFS and NOT ENOUGH INDIANS

It's a dark day in New York

Jim A.,

I don't want Lowell for the reason you suggested. His stats were inflated because of Fenway and the Green Monster.

Check out his home vs. road stats this season:

Home in 2007: .373/.418/.575

Away in 2007: .276/.339/.428

Career at Yankee Stadium: .278/.330/.456 (90 ABs)

Signing him would be an enormous mistake and they would lose a draft pick to the Red Sox on top of it.

I may punch Cashman in the nose if he actually makes this deal.

Viper,
I still have to think that Cashman is just doing what the Red Sox and Yankees do to each other, trying to drive up the price of each other's free agents just to be a pest. He might be hoping that if he drives enough of a wedge between the Sox and Lowell that Lowell might a. come to the Yankees for less than 4 years or b. Go somewhere else like Philly.

I have my doubts that the Yankees are really still interested in him but my opinion isn't worth much.

I'm not convinced about Lowell but I do hope we won't have another year of platooning 3 or 4 people at 1B. None of them ever play enough to get sharp. One decent guy there would be nice, I'm not asking for Tino.

I think i heard Papelbon has a problem with his ulner nerve. It was reported on KFAN in Los Angeles. Sorry Sully its over for you and your team

Welcome back Alex!!! Let's get you a ring now!

Red Sox, tired of all the fuss about the Yankees, made headlines themselves today. They raised their ticket prices about ten percent for the season to come.

Sully, as long as we have posters like Tommy, at least you don't have to feel that it's only RS fans who are childish and tiresome around here.

Oh I know there are silly posters for both sides.

The interesting thing is seeing the overall tendencies of Red Sox fans and Yankees fans.

They are truly different in their psychosis and similar in their passion.

I know I said this before but there is a fundemental difference:

Red Sox fans are obsessed with the Yankees.
And yes I include myself in that batch.

Yankee fans are not obsessed like Red Sox fans. In fact I would argue that Yankee fans aren't obsessed at all.

But they DO have a need:

They NEED to feel superior to Red Sox fans.
And for generations it was easy for Red Sox fans to obsess and Yankee fans to feel superior.

The Yankees had what we wanted... World Series titles. And since the Yankees won their first, the Red Sox had NONE. And it seemed unfair... and it was for generations.

So literally if you were born anytime after the first World War you only knew the Yankees winning all the time and the Red Sox coming close but losing creatively. That's 5 generations.

And it was easy for 5 generations of Yankee fans to feel superior. In fact you guys could do it by chanting one number:

19-18! clap clap clap clap clap!

Well, 2004 happened... and we Red Sox fans behaved badly. What did you expect? The only Sox fans who had experienced a World Series title before 2004 were on LIFE SUPPORT! And it happened with a collapse by the Yankees. It was living in bizarro world.

So even though that whole Curse crap was eliminated, a lot of us still obsessed over the Yankees.... because it is what we know!

And then the Yankee fans couldn't go to the stand by 19-18 stuff.

Some people chanted 2090!
Suddenly the 26 rings rallying cry started. (Why not chant 19-48 for the Indians?)
"It was a fluke" some other said.

So when you see the posters here regarding Yankees/Red Sox it falls into the two camps.

Red Sox fans gloating as if they just had sex with the Yankees hot wife. And taunting as if the Yankee fan obsesses over the Sox the same way (which they don't.)

And while some of the Anons might disagree with me, the Red Sox won the World Series... again. So it wasn't a fluke. And no 2090... so now it turns into "Red Sox have no class" and "They won because of Senator Mitchell embarassed a guy who wasn't scheduled to pitch" and "We would have won if not for the bugs" and "We won the season series" and "The Red Sox caused September 11"

One side obsesses
One side needs to feel superior.

Meanwhile the rest of the baseball world hates us BOTH

It's fascinating to watch

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO to Lowell. C'mon Cash, this has to be a ploy to drive the price up on Sox, right??? OYF is dead on!!! Let's wait the year out (I have no problem w/ a Betemit, Phillips, Giambi rotation at 1B) and then try for Tex after this year. If he's gone you have guys like Morneu, LaRoche, Dunn and Fielder due for FA soon. I'd rather take my chance w/ any of those guys than Lowell ... he's built for Boston. Can't see him duplicating his #'s anywhere else PLUS you're asking him to play a brand new position. Not a smart move .... STAY AWAY CASH!

Long and the short of it out of the latest episode of "Disc-ourage"

A-Rod (Vince) takes the appropriated moral high ground, plays the good guy and gives Boras (Ari) a kick in the ass.

Tune in next week when Cynthia (Johnny) gets in on the contract negotiations and makes a play with A-Rod (Vince) to get the Yankees to add cheerleaders, with her in charge.

signing lowell - why it's a smart move

1) before i start - i still believe it's all a trick to harm the sox and that eventually he stays there.

2) when we all thought a-rod was gone, the cry rose here for a 3B a-la scott brosius - not a big numbers guy, a stellar defensive player with a winning attitude. well, we'd be getting that with lowell - a perfect fit - only at 1B. now you say, we need power at 1B, but now we have the luxury of having a 3B who hits for so much power he offsets what most teams get from 1B + DH combined. and let's not forget we have a catcher capable of power and an emerging 2B who may be hitting for power soon. we don't need an all star at every position!

3) sure, his stats will drop at yankee stadium - drop to "brosius-like" level - .270+ avg., no more than 15 HR's at best, probably around 80 rbi's (depending where he hits) - exactly what we need to complement the all stars we already have.

4) now for the cherry - the sox effect, watch the dominoes fall. left with no 3B they might be forced to trade for cabrera. so what? you say - they have 6 SP's anyway, lester can be sacrificed with little harm done (or bucholtz). so great, the sox get fat little manny, but the biggest upside is this - they will be out of the santana running. that is one reason why i like this move - which again is not going to happen anyway...

now lets get Mcguire indict him

Signing ARod to ten years is a BIG mistake.

The reason Why Redsox are hated because Redsox Fans still complaining and whining after 2 world series in last four years isn't enough. They still think Boston sports team are Underdogs. I had enough of underdog mentality that from Redsox Fans. The Celtics won 16 championships, The Pats won 3. How much is enough?

Chip:

You're take on Mariano just completely rocks.

Yankees donate $60,000 in hurricane relief to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20071115&content_id=2301163&vkey=pr_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy

The New York Yankees announced today they have donated a total of $60,000 to the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua to aid in both countries' hurricane relief effort.

Yankees players Robinson Cano, Melky Cabrera and Edwar Ramirez, along with coaches Rob Thomson and Tony Pena, presented the Yankees' donation of $25,000 on Wednesday, Nov. 14, in Hogar Santo Domingo Savio, Dominican Republic, which was struck by Tropical Storm Noel in late October. The donation will benefit Food for the Poor, a non-profit organization that ministers to spiritually renew impoverished people throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, and improve the health, economic, social and spiritual conditions of the men, women and children they serve. Following the donation, Yankees Minor League manager Jody Reed, several Yankees Minor Leaguers and Yankees Latin America scouts held a baseball clinic for 240 local orphans.

In addition, Ramirez, along with Yankees Latin prospects and staff, will help distribute an additional $10,000 donation in food and supplies on Sunday, Nov. 18, to help rebuild a local school ravaged by the storm in Ramirez's hometown of San Juan de la Maguana in the Dominican Republic.

A $25,000 donation was also made by the Yankees to the Asociacion San Francisco de Asis in Nicaragua to assist victims of Hurricane Felix, a category 5 storm that devastated the country in early September. SFA is a non-profit organization based in Nicaragua that provides opportunities for the poor by facilitating year-round basic human needs such as nutrition, education, health care, psychological counseling, housing and vocational training.

Who says The Yankees are Evil Empire according Mr.Lucchinno after Yankees donated $60,000 and rest of Yankees players, coaches also donated money in hurricane relief in Dominican Republic?. I don't see Redsox and their management doing this kind of stuff? Big Papi is the only one who's helping relief efforts. Mr.Lucchinno where are you?

This military time thing stinks. Good Morning All. What a very busy and historical day in baseball huh? I would like to present a question and it goes for any fan of any team. If Bonds was on your team, would you support him and turn the other cheek like almost every fan in SF does. I was reading a quote from a SF fan after hearing about the Bonds indictment and I was floored. Here is the quote "It is a sad day when a great man and a great ballplayer is indicted for something he obviously did not do". Are theses people nuts. What are your opinions?

Rivera ought to be quiet and sign the deal....he is 38, does he really think he's getting 4 years and more money somewhere else? Please.....only the Yankees are willing to do the deal. No one else is banging down his door, just like no one else was banging down ARod's door.

While I'm appalled at his Apparent use of Steroids,

I do think there is some funny mess going on here.

remember this indicment is not about his cheating, they are lining up lying charges etc.

while it may be true it still does not ignore funny tatics because after all we are talking about the court system.

Do not give the messed up Ex girl friend who is mad and wants to talk that is not going to fly.

People wanna put astericks next to his name and or ban him from the HOF.

No problem ..

SO I guess we can go to the following and place either an Asterick and remove some from the HOF

Mark Mcguire -

Gaylord Perry - a "Bragging" cheat

And, by the way, could Johnette Howard drink a little less coffee and relax about Derek Jeter? Lumping him with Barry Bonds is beyond laughable. It's disgraceful.

Here's how it looks: Gov. Eliot Spitzer is looking for lots of ways to tax people in a high-profile way. He wanted to start taxing us for everything bought on the Internet, and now it appears he's going after celebrities. Jeter probably pays more in taxes to New York State than 99.9 percent of everybody here, and he generates a ton of business for the Bronx and for sports and entertainment here. He followed the law, played by the rules, and has been living in Florida since he was making the Major League-minimum. Rather than renting a hotel room in NYC during the baseball season, he bought an apartment. Now, years later, Gov. Spitzer is trying to grab some headlines and "tax the rich" and he goes after Derek Jeter - - trying to make new law in the process.

This is a politician thinking he can take on a celebrity and win, but it's transparent, it's stupid and it's wrong.

And for anyone to try to tar Jeter over this is beyond the pale.

BB,

I don't disagree that this whole thing was a Barry Bond witch hunt and a waste of the tax payer’s money. What does aggravate me is that he obviously took the stuff and almost every fan SF doesn't want to admit it. I could maybe understand if he was a squeaky clean player like Jeter but that is not the case. He is a gruff arrogant man who somehow started to get bigger and better when most players are declining. I just don't know how anyone can be a fan of his. And I think it is sad for him too. This guy was a HOF'er before he took the steroids. He never needed to do it, but because he is so egotistical he took the steroids because he saw all the fame and glory that McGuire and Sosa were getting. It is really a sad story but it is hard to feel sorry for such a miserable person.

Bomber,
I agree with you, this has been a witch hunt directed at one guy when it should be directed at tons of players and management types. Bonds is being strung up for one reason: He's an *sshole.
Do I think he did it? Hell yeah, but I also think Canseco is right, at least 50% of the players have done or are doing it. Just because an ahole broke a sacred record doesn't mean he should be the only one paying the price here. McGwire saw the writing on the wall and faxed in his retirement so fast his head was spinning but there are others out there.

I still say that baseball should just say "any positive test from this day forward = 100 game ban, another = an entire season and a third = banishment from the game" or something to that effect. This is too rampant to just hang one guy on and while he broke a record, I think there are other records that are tainted like some Cy Youngs and Silver Slugger awards. This is an era thing, not a one player thing. The records should be noted with an asterisk and baseball should move on. They are holding all those old urine samples over the players heads and it's just ruining the game.

You would think football would be a lot more affected by 'roids than baseball.
