Checking in with Kevin Thompson

If you're wondering what happened to Kevin Thompson, he's alive and well in Pirates camp. Here's a story.

Getting to the big league is not just about talent but being in the right place at the right time. The Yankee philosophy of the past hopefully of reaching out for the veteran with the resume has limited the younger player fom advancing to the big club.

I wish him well and hope a break or two goes his way.

Here is a quote from the article that stuck out to me:

“He’s pretty much the same player I saw in Triple-A,” Russell said. “He can do a lot of things well and he loves to play the game. He’s done a good job this spring.” /John Russell, Pirates Manager

It seems as if Thompson's game hasn't improved over the years as he is still the same player Russell saw during his time managing against him in Triple-A. I know we always hoped Thompson would force the Yankees to bring him up and play him but he didn't.

I do wish him all the luck in the world, he is very close to reaching a dream that so few ever do and I can only imagine what it would be like to get that close and not make it. That might be worse than not even coming close like yours truly, a sore armed CF from back in the days of mullets, acid washed jeans and Synchronicity.
