Bruney torn ligament, Rodriguez back

Brian Bruney was diagnosed with a torn Lisfranc ligament in his right foot. It doesn't happen much in baseball, though John Olerud tore his ligament several years ago. The Giants' Michael Strahan also had it.
Doctors have recommended that Bruney undergo surgery. He's not here, but if he does in fact undergo surgery as expected, he will likely be out until late in the season if he does return this year at all.

The Yankees recalled both Chris Britton and Jonathan Albaladejo. Bruney was placed on the disabled list, and catcher Chad Moeller was designated for assignment. Moeller does not have options remaining, so he must clear waivers to remain in the Yankees' system. He said he would accept the assignment to Triple-A if he clears waivers.

Alex Rodriguez is back in the lineup at third base. He tested his leg (strained right quad) and reported no problems.

Something tells me the Yankees will lose Moeller. After what he showed in his short stint here I'm sure there will be a few teams interested in his services. So add veteran back-up catcher to stick in Triple A to the list of things the Yankees need to keep their eyes open for on the waiver wire. I think the Astros recently released Humberto Quintero - he would be an option.

ESPN is saying that Bruney is done for the year. Not only does that stink for him because of how well he had been playing but the injury to Bruney makes it very difficult for the Yankees to consider moving Joba into the rotation. The team has internal options (Albaladejo, Patterson, Veras, Ramirez) but how about external options.

With Carlos Delgado really struggling for the Mets do you think the Yankees could buy low on Aaron Heilman (who just screams of a guy who needs a change of scenary) with Shelley Duncan?

I'm sure either Britton or Albaladejo will be sent back down after tonight's game (probably for Duncan) because I can't see the team carrying 13 pitchers.
