Hal Steinbrenner was/is at the Stadium today. He's up fairly regularly, but we don't always see him when he stops by to visit with Joe Girardi in his office. Nothing out of the ordinary, Brian Cashman said. Just a visit. Colleague Ken Davidoff was there for Steinbrenner's comments to reporters, and it sounds like the Yankees at least engaged in some conversations about C.C. Sabathia and Rich Harden, though they weren't all over it.
Here's a Steinbrenner quote: "We analyze all these trades. We talk to all of the teams. We try to get an idea of what it is they'd want, and try to get an idea of just what our chances would be of signing one of those players to a long-term deal. Everything gets weighed into the equation, and we make a decision. We just felt it wasn't best for the organization to do anything with those two, at this point.”
Today's the last home game before the All-Star break. There are all manner of events here over the next few days with the All-Star Game.
Here's the lineup for today. Notable, Jorge Posada not catching again. he's at DH, so Jose Molina can try to control the Rays' running game. That's interesting that Molina is catching a day game after a night game. I talked to Posada about that, and he said he's OK with it, that they need him to DH for the day and that's all right. He said he feels fine physically and he expects his shoulder strength to improve after the break.

Our boy Hank will make a deal to help out this beleagured starting rotation.
Well, I see that we moved on just as I posted - so from the last thread.
Islander505, didn't Bill White call a great game?!
Nudge, if she had wanted to, my wife could have have swapped some hot stuff with anybody some 38 years ago! Alas, we all get older. You'll see yourself someday. In fact, though, like lots of ladies I know, she just loved reading about juicy scandals. So seeing in person and from not so far away, the particpants to a rather unusual one (family swap, anyone?) was just the ticket for her.
Well, I see that Moose has worn out his welcome here, regardless of how well he does from here on out. Some pitchers have 'recycled' themselves from being power pitchers to junk ballers - Frank Viola, for instance. But I can't recall at what point in his career he made the transistion. I take it that Chip and Sully don't think the Moose we're seeing this year is having anything more than a 'last hurrah.'
Am I to assume, however, that everybody's on board for re-signing Andy?
YANKSFAN... who will he get?
Did you take a note that Harden and Sabathia, the two best pitchers on the market went elsewhere?
Even Gaudin was moved
So unless you think they can get Josh Beckett for Rasner, not sure what deal will be made
Here's the thing. If this is going to be a lingering thing with Jorge, do the Yankees need to look for a starting catcher? I like Molina, he's solid behind the dish, but there's a reason this guy has been a career back-up. When Posada was hurt originally we saw that Molina's bat doesn't translate in an everyday role.
