Alan,
Who are the free agents who the Knicks may have some interest in?
Chandler and Nate seem like obvious draft day trade bait to be coupled with a veteran or two, what is your gut impression of Nate or Chandler having a future with the Knicks?
Do you get the impression that sportswriters who hate the Knicks are creating David Lee trade scenarios to poison Lee's relationship with the management?
Ladies,
Everyone here is talking bout a revamping the whole roster. That Knicks need major help. This draft is th ebegging of good things to come.
All Kniks really needed was a GM and a Coach. Isiah was the cancer and he's gone and replaced by Donnie and D'antonie who are the brightest in the league at what they do.
Why is everyone focused on a pointguard position? Celtics won with Rajon Rondo. It's because Doc got the best out of him. Mike D'antoni will do the same with Marbury.
Marbury is 31 and he will have a career year as there is money on line and we all know what motivates him. Contract year is the only year you can count on Starbury. Just look at the work he's putting in this summer.Crawford Zach and Curry are all 20 point scorers . Lee, Balk, Nate, Chandler are a strong bench.
We have the pieces we just need someone to get the best out this talented group. D'Antoni made Raja Bell important, He even got the best out Tim Thomas. Man has a way of getting to players and maximizing their production.
Just draft the best player available at 6 and sit tight. Mike will show Isiah how to coach. Let Donnie show Isiah that it's OK to be patient, that you don't have to get rid of everyplayer that you inherit to make your mark.
I'm convinced that a quick leaping defensive small forward who can hit the three with consistency is the only thing we are missing. A finisher on the open court and spot up jumper with a sweet stroke.
I'm confident that if coached right and well prepared each night Knicks will be 45 win team with the current players. They were decimated with injuries the last two years and they haven't been actually coached in 3 yrs.
Let Mike D'Antoni do his thing.
Read your article Alan, who/what could the Knicks give the T'Wolves that would interest them enough to trade the third pick?
I just found out I have tickets to tomorrow's NBA draft through the job. I'll be booing the Celtics and chanting F-I-R-E D-O-L-A-N for all you fixers out there.
K4L -- I'll be there too. I'll get the chants going with ya. Though, I'd rather keep it positive.
How bout a "Let's go Donnie" chant just as Stern is making his opening remarks.
The Isiah era is over. This is our celebration.
"ladies?" First learn how to type, then come correct, rookie.
by the way, who wrote this mysterious post? it wasn't alan, unless he's now doing the "george is getting angry" third person thing from Seinfeld... Who is Mike Rose?
Makes absolutely no sense to me why the Knicks, owner of the 6th pick of the draft, would prefer to be at their practice facility up in greenburgh, when the draft and all of the draftees will be at MSG, home of the New York Knicks....
What, we don't have adequate phone systems for Walsh to get on the horn and propose draft day trades to other GM's around the league?
...That is, unless Mr. Walsh is planning on dropping a bomb on draft day. What do you think Donnie? Going to surprise some Knicks fans with an unpopular pick, a la Reggie Miller?
just bloggin'
Ok. Good point Matt. I'm so used to booing on draft night it didn't even occur to me that I may have the chance to cheer . . . the Knicks . . . on draft night. "Lets go Donnie" sounds good.
FYI according to ESPN the Blazers just acquired yet another pick at 27. They have 13 and 27 plus those second round picks. No way they keep them all with such a young team and I think they have a young PG coming over from Europe too. That team is way too loaded with young talent, its just unfair (Roy, Alrdridge, Oden, Jack, Ferdanez, Webster, Outlaw, Rodriguez, Frye), but they also are in desperate need of a verteran scorer too. Hmm, I wonder if they would be interested in Q-Rich?
Director NY- I am with you that our roster isn't as bad as our record has been.
Marbury in a contract year, you are right he is motivated by money and lets not forget that he was playing the best defense of his career 2 seasons ago.
Crawford is one of the top 20 pure scorers in the league.
Q-rich, lets not forget that he was playing great D against kobe, lebron, t-mac and the likes 2 seasons ago until he decided to come into camp out of shape.
Thats just our starters. My concern is our weak weak weak frontcourt. Z-no and curry are soft as sponge cake. They play no d and cannot pass. What is being done to address the weaknesses in our front court?
Marbury is a loser
its his personality not his talent
yes marbury is talented
but his selfishness and bad attitude ruins team chemistry
if we can get some youth and a new attitude
it would be beneficial to the knicks.
a source on the suns(arizona republic)
said that d'antoni told the suns management that he could not win with marbury (of course d.antoni will deny this because marbury is still on the knicks roster)
lets take a step forward towards the future.
Just bloggin...LOL
Were at a point where there is just way too much speculation.
Let the Chips fall where they may.
Antoni (no D) can't possibly do worse than Isiah.
I like that Walsh keeps his cards tight to the vest, and that he has discipline and will carry out a game plan.
Lets Go Knicks!
i'm getting a sinking feeling. portlnd snd chsrlotte each buy first rounders. the only thing we've got going for us is money, and we can't even spend it? i'm not gonna be happy if all we come away with tomorrow is westbrooke, that guy totally underwhelms me. better if it's gordon or augustine or the italian job.
Walsh is smart enough to know he’s fighting two battles. Most importantly, he has to start to build a team from the garbage roster Isiah so carefully crafted. But almost as important, he wants to give New York fans something to get excited about. (It’s been SO long.) No matter how solid he might turn out to be, if all we come away with is a 5’10” PG . . . you’ll pardon me if I don’t consider that cause for excitement.
If Walsh wants a “safe” pick, I hope he gets another, to go with it. So at least one of our picks this year can aim for up-side potential. Like Alexander. Or even one of the bigs whose stock is falling so precipitously, like Randolph and Jordan. It seems like this year there’s more up-side potential, deeper into the first-round, than I can ever remember.
I almost think the most depressing draft will be if absolutely nothing happens for the Knicks. We just take our one pick and out. (And isn’t that usually the case? LOTS of talk about trades that never happen.) I’m sure they’ll do a good job with a #6. I also know you can’t rebuild THIS team in one summer. (The Boston paradigm is totally irrelevant to the disaster Walsh inherited.) This team needs SO much – this would be a great year to try to negotiate multiple first-round picks. It will take years to rebuild the Knicks. I’m aware of that. I’m just trying to jump-start the process. I hope Walsh can pull something . . . anything . . . off.
@ Trane, Man that's why I'm not making any comments concerning any rumored trades or trade posibilities, If it happens find but I'm gonna "chill until"!!!
if all we come away with tomorrow is a solid number 6 pick, it might not be the most exciting thing, but it will be a step in the right direction.
i'd rather that than a move just to make a splash on draft night. that was isiah's style.
no thank you.
@trane
i hear ya man
and i agree.
having to endure years of abuse from isiah and his tenure
i need something BIG to get me excited as a fan.
all my friends in boston are killing me about the knicks
they just won a championship and here i am a knicks fan
hoping we
get a good pick at #6
i need a splash...something...extra pick...move a contract....
something...
something to look forward to next year.
this draft will give me an insight as to how much
influence walsh has in the league
if all i have next year to look forward to is seeing Curry
lumber up and down the court
it is going to be a long season...
thanks isiah (two lottery picks for curry...geez)
What are you dudes talking about, saying Walsh needs to make a "big splash" in order to give yall something to feel good about?????
It's all of Zeke's "big splashes" that got us in this predicament in the first place.
Quit putting so much stock in the rumor mill, and we need to stop coveting other teams assets. We didn't get this way overnight, nor will it be fixed overnight. We need to be patient.
I dont really need a big splash, i just want smart moves. If the smart moves involves a big splash then so be it. I would like to get more first round picks, i wonder y we couldnt have bought Hornets pick or Denvers pick. I will keep my opinions on the draft till after the draft, btw i dont think i will be overly happy or sad with westbrook
First of all, we’re only talking about an extra draft pick. Isiah’s style was to continue to sign the wrong player with a terrible contract. There’s a huge difference. Yes, we’re talking about a gamble, but this is a draft that might be the right time to try to make a move. We need talent. I’d rather see Walsh take a gamble on a draft pick then to follow the Isiah model which was to sign MLEs and make trades for players we didn’t need and contracts that crippled the team for years. With an extra draft pick, you’ve only invested in a rookie contract. It’s a much safer way to try to build. We’ve got to start somewhere. And if it doesn’t pan out, you haven’t lost nearly as much as Isiah cost the team in his terrible big trades.
Like I said, if they only pick at #6, I’m sure it will at least help the team. I was only expressing the hope that Walsh has something bigger cooking. Obviously, it has to be a smart move. That goes without saying. Yet when I look at this draft, there seems to be the potential for exciting players deep into the first round. That’s the kind of gamble I think is worth taking. But there’s a big difference between trading down for multiple first-round picks, for example, and the kinds of moves Isiah is infamous for making . . .
@trane
good point.
that is the splash i am talking about...drafting young talent.
that is why i want an extra pick.
just look at how portland built their team.
that is the splash i am talking about...
some extra picks
i hate having only one bullet in the gun...
what if you miss?
accoring to draft express their is only a 17% chance of drafting
a superstar or allstar at #6
but at #5 that percentile is almost up to 40%
