It's War-bury

So we're only into July and here goes Stephon Marbury forcing himself into the picture again. Check out this story in today's Post (and you know it must be all kinds of crazy because I never link the Post). Stephon Marbury tells his personal beat writer that he's planning on crashing the party in Las Vegas this weekend when some Knick veterans -- including new point guard Chris Duhon -- plan to come for some workouts.

It'll be like when he showed up at the Mike D'Antoni press conference in that loud sportcoat and wicked grin and everyone wore the look that said, "Who invited this guy?"

Donnie, that cloud over the Garden? It's gonna follow you to Vegas.

Stay tuned . . .

It is amazing how little credibility Berman has with Knicks fans anymore. At least the fanatics, who read most articles and blogs. Since ultimateknicks.com made it easy to read all the day's articles, Berman's allegiances and agendas have become so blatant, when read in juxtaposition to the other writers.

Berman:

Walsh told a confidant last week he wants Duhon to push Marbury in training camp. But Walsh, a lawyer, has made misleading statements before during his brief Knicks reign.

Me:

Berman told the public that Marbury will stick around for the foreseeable future. But Berman, a douchebag, has made misleading statements before during his long infatuation with Marbury's testicles.

Oak! Many a game has been spent reveling in the glory that is Big Snacks! Ah the pleasures of the basement!

Alan, I thought you "fixed" the hyperlinks on your blog, homie.

Don't forget about your mozilla firefox fixers who will never use Internet Explorer.

One of my favorite parts (and there are many) of Berman's shill item today is the threat that Marbury will end up with Boston. Why oh why would Boston EVER take a chance on Steph. To stir up the muck and kill their championship chemistry? Lord knows he won't start over Rondo...

@KD - It pained me enough to even link to the Post. You know how to get there, baby. Don't make me double-link to that site!

Berman has proven to be nothing but a Marbury apologist and suck up. Its time to release both Marbury from the Knicks and Berman from the Knicks beat.

I assume the Knicks have not yet bought out Marbury because they are trying to find a trading partner (which will be impossible). I hope they are smart enough to tell Marbury to stay home next week as his dark presence will hang over this franchise until he is officially
exorcised

I hear you Alan, kudos for "abraham linking" to berman, as stopmikelupica likes to blog.

Could have been worse--imagine if it were someone over at the, dare I write, ny daily news...

In that respect, you took the high road.

What is K-Berg calling you these days, 'Sir Fix-a-lot'? Is that a moniker you approve of?

You guys are fools you read the media and draw your feelings from other people conclusions. Yeah Steph had some problems here in NY but in no way was he the only problem and Im tired of these knick fans always trashing good players(check EWING) because the player don't suck up to them. Steph is a good ball player and had a few bad years like everyone who's been a knick the last few years. Like everyone else on this roster they are not as bad as our record. GIve D'antoni a chance to see what he's got in Steph with this bunch of guys in a contract year, as well as everyone else before we turn judge and jury and sentence them to death.

testing

Berman has Man love for Marbury!
Marbury needs to go...but I think the right decision is to do it slow
and perhaps exhaust all means of a possible trade before a buyout! Maybe if Marbury collects enough splinters in his azz
he may ask for a smaller " buyout?" Either way Marbury must go!

Oh lord, Berman. There were actually a couple weeks of semi-clarity from him as he tried to ingratiate himself with the Donnie Walsh admin, but that didn't pan out, I guess, and now he's dug himself into his bitter little hole. And when his predictions don't pan out, it's because that nasty lawyer (gasp) misled a member of the tabloid media! (On that note, I've always thought it's kind of precious how the Post and News actually publish articles grading local athletes on their relationship with beat writers, as if their readers are sitting up nights worrying about Jay Greenberg's bruised ego.)

JABBADAHUT - Please!!! I stood up for Marbury for a long time, but he has earned the scorn. If D'Antoni can work some magic I'll be delighted, but Steph's problems are documented and tied to more than one team.
Alan, why do I often have problems with entries getting posted? "Submission errors, too many in a short time, wrong security code" etc. This happens even when info has been double checked and is accurate.

Pres, Coach, team and Marbury need to meet on these issues, unless they already know that Steph will not be invited?

Is anyone out there praying for our NYK org to become healthy and successful?

you are a bully Hahn, Marbury is a player on the New York Knicks. Their highest paid, and most talented player. Who are you?

It's a tough call on the whole Vegas situation. If he's still on the team, how could you kill Marbury for going to the team's minicamp? He's not forcing himself into the picture, he's just showing up to a team practice. In that case, he's actually doing the right thing.

Maybe it will just get Walsh to act more quickly on a buy-out though, which I still think would be the best thing for everyone.

I too have had problems such as those you detail. After experimenting a bit I think the reason for submission errors occurs is because in the time you type your message a system timer has expired the original security code.

By refreshing the browser window, you get a new security code and it works fine. Copy your content before refreshing in case it gets flattened (usually not on Firefox).

The really Big news is on Berger's blog. a speck of pollen went by his window today.

Marbury should be bought out this week to avoid problems. If he gets involved at all with the team Walsh and D'Antoni is trying to build, he'll sour it.

alan, i'm a huge fan, you know i am... but where does it say he's "crashing"? if it's a veteran mini camp isn;t he on the guest listr along with everyone ele?

No one is questioning Marbury’s individual talent.
He has more skills than the scrubs that Idiot Thomas put together in the backcourt and more talented than Duhon.
It’s his approach to the game, the ‘me’ first attitude, and his brain cell malfunction that’s made him one of the most despised player in NY.
It’s too bad, he is homegrown.

True, there’s no “i” in team. However, there’s “m” and “e” in team according to Turdbury.

Steph is playing for his final contract, for his financial security. I thought that he’ll play it like a good soldier but I guess not.

Alan,
Will you be in Vegas for the Summer League?

Alan, I'm just as disgusted with Marbury as any Knick fan, but the "War-bury" title is exaggerating it, until Marbs is bought out he has to appear to be a team player and a professional, especially if he becomes a free agent. Additionally, He's playing for a contract so he's gonna put his all into the upcoming season, it makes perfect business sense, even though I don't think anyone REALLY cares if he's there or not.

I know it's a good story but at this point, he's not being a distraction.

The one thing I worry about if Marbury sticks around is that he might go into Mebury mode in his contract year. I'm sure he'll be a team player until controversy strikes. His short fuse and ticking time bomb approach to interpersonal affairs is what must worry Walsh and [D]'antoni.

Hey I thought that maybe the Rooster might also go by the "Knick" name Nilo G. The original Eyetalion Gansta!

Just Blogging!

Why all the irrational hate for Berman? I read the article and it didn't appear overly pro-Marburry at all.
I do think Marburry needs to go to create better team chemistry even though he is by far the most talented Knick (even with the ankle and knee troubles). Why continue to antagonize a fan base that clearly despises their best player. But Marburry is not the only reason our team is terrible and shouldn't be the scapegoat for all of the Knicks failures. IT was a terrible GM, we had players that didn't care enough of about winning (see J. James, Curry) and IT was also a terrible coach who quit on his own team after the sexual harrasment trial went south.

I hate the Duhon signing and the Danillo draft pick but love the direction the team is going in, if that makes sense. We haven't been sued or thrown water at each other yet and its already July!!!

Hey, I'm not a Marbury fan but da media is not fair to him. Da media kills me sometimes wit these dumb stories. If I remember correctly, Marbury said he wuz gonna play in the Las Vegas summer league a month ago.

"IT was a terrible GM, we had players that didn't care enough of about winning (see J. James, Curry) and IT was also a terrible coach who quit on his own team after the sexual harrasment trial went south."

cosign.

"I hate the Duhon signing and the Danillo draft pick but love the direction the team is going in, if that makes sense. "

it doesnt. unless you mean you like the d'antoni signing and nothing more. but danilo was clearly hand-picked by d'antoni so you couldn't be down with mike d'antoni and turn around and say you hate the pick.

it makes no sense to me how people can hate a pick they've never seen play the game. unless you have league pass to the italian pro league, all you really know about him are a few youtube clips and what the scouts have published on draft express.

gallinari is not tskitishvili, not beillineli, nor is he darko, nor is he freddy weis, nor is he milos vujanic, nor is he slavko vranes.

he'll come out his own way when the time comes.

it confuses me, steph's had years of time on the knicks to prove himself a great knick and has not. Gallinari isn't even fresh off the boat yet and knicks fans still trash him.

you probably know something about him that i don't. i want to see him play in the nba first before judging if he was a bad pick.

i was pretty sure we were going to draft him, then bayless fell and I thought we'd get him instead. the fact that we bypassed bayless proves to me we really wanted to get this kid.

All this talk about Marbury and his talent, he is not nearly the same player he once was when he came out of Georgia Tech. He looks like a bull running up and down the court rather than a speedy point guard. He has had ankle problems and mobility problems from day one with the knicks. He is not a winner or a team player, just ask the Twolves, Nets, and Suns. I was a huge Marbury fan and a part of me says to let him play out his contract year because he may perform well but the other part says to sever ties immediately as he a detrimant to team chemistry and has no chance to be successful in Dantoni offense.
Look for Marbury to get cut before season starts and watch Duhon double his minutes, points, and assist career averages. Trade Randolph and keep Curry as centers who can score in low post are hard to come by. Look for Knicks to contend for the 8th seed.

I really don't care whether this team contends or not for the 8th seed this year. I said the same last year and was sadly dissapointed. I just want to see progress, and I want to see a reversal of the sad fortune that has plagued all the rooks and 2nd year players during the Isiah Thomas regime.

Y'all know what I'm talking about Zeke's special rookie and sophmore hazing program, where he underutilizes the rooks untill the very end of the season subjects them to injury by overplaying them then, and then underplays them the following year thereby breaking their will and instilling his special Knick brand of demoralization.

Meanwhile the fat, pouty, and underperforming bums that Zeke acquired through trade or off season MLE signings yuck it up using up valuable playing time that could have gone to the rookies and sophmore Knicks.

That's Zeke's brand of team hazing!

Buy this loser out, we don't need him on the team. He's a major locker room annoyance and all the players are fed up with his bull$hit, that alone is a reason why the team could suck next season. It's time for the knicks to start off with a fresh clean slate without having a distraction like Marbury on this team.

If the team loses, it loses... but think about this, Marbury after this season is gone anyway so the team one way or the other is going to have to play without him, you would rather have the team take its lumps early on this season so they can get use to playing with each other without having a mountainbury on the back of their minds constantly.

Donnie can try to explore as many Marbury trade possibilities he wants, but keep in my mind that getting draft picks for him is "easier said than done", because in order for a trade to work the knicks would have to take on more garbage contracts that total over $21 million dollars. And no one is going to be giving us any value in return for his expiring contract.

Letting go of TickingTimeBombBury would free up some more space for Duhon to assert himself as the team's starter, and would free up minutes for Collins to find his way in the rotation, and return to what little form he showed prior to his second year with the Knicks.

I say cut the cord on DeadWeightBury!

personality/character issues aside, when in his prime and motivated no guard on the KNicks roster is near to Marbury in talent.

Luckily KNick new management will not shoot themselves in the foot and send away one of their best players just because clueess fans and writers have an agenda .....

the same willl be whining how could KNicks buyout Marbury's expiring contract

@KD. I like the fact that the organization has a direction and a plan, even if I don't agree with all the steps we are taking in getting there. As for Danillo, I don't like us drafting another SF, I think that was a mistake for many reasons but I won't go over them again since my feelings are well documented. I will reiterate though that Bayless made much more sense for this team. If we had done that we would not have had to waste our MLE on Duhon and could have signed Arroyo and a shotblocker. So to your comment "it makes no sense to me how people can hate a pick they've never seen play the game"; it does make sense if a player who fit better was available.

I have not seen Danillo play other than in clips which I don't feel are a good indicator of someone's overall game. I don't know what Walsh's plan is in 10', sign two good players with the cap money, sign one superstar and one role player, but from what I see right now with our roster (and I believe we need a competitve roster in 2010 to sign anyone) I don't think Danillo or Duhon made much sense.

People keep saying that getting rid of Marbury somehow 'starts this team off with a clean slate'. This team is still DEEPLY flawed without Marbury. This team is still FILLED with habitual losers who have NEVER played in a playoff game in their entire career. This team is filled with one dimensional players, most of whom are way overpaid.

When Marbury is gone, does Eddy Curry magically turn into Dwight Howard? Does Quentin Richardson get close to the rim or start hitting his 3 point shots? Does Jeffries suddenly start knocking down wide open 17 foot jump shots? Or even a foul shot? Does Nate Robinson suddenly start playing like an intelligent point guard?

No...Marbury is not THE problem, he is just a part of a much LARGER problem. And please Alan, don't make fun of Berman when he knows something you DON'T about Marbury's plans. Show some class and respect for your peer. As long as Marbury is still on the team, he should obviously be reporting to a veterans mini-camp, especially coming off major ankle surgery.

Get a clue.

Donnie, Dolan, Isiah, and D'Antoni need to take him out to lunch and break it to him that he can't be here next year for the sake of Karma. Yes, 21 Million just to rid him from the Garden air is a lot of money. Steph had his shot and failed the organization and Zeke. We need to move on. The more he hangs around the team the more that bad karma will be haunting this team. I say they have to break the news to him soon - its time to walk off in the sunset or Coney Island or where ever he came from. Marburied.

@LGM: You are the one in need of a clue. It's not a mini-camp, my dude. It's a voluntary workout. Guys come in on the team's dime to work out together. D'Antoni can't run it. He can't even be in the building. And this dedicated athlete didn't go last year. Why now?
And I give Berm credit when it's due. So I have the right to tweak him when he's gone fan club on us.

Marbury is Not the only problem on the Knicks. If you buy him out and goes to a team with a star and good Surrounding players it might come back haunt us. In my opinion, I feel that he is better than both of the point guards that was in this years Finals. I just feel that if he's not playing up to a certain level, he should be bench like any other Knick players. Before we buy him out, we need to buy out a player does nothing and gets paid. JEROME JAMES!!!!!

Marc Berman is Stephon Marbury's butt boy?

Hmmm. Who wrote that obvious fact 18 months ago and was later banned from this site by the second-rate hockey writer and his Possette sisterhood?

What was his name?

I think it's a bit ridiculous to just buyout or release a guy who can still play and will definitely be on his best behavior because it's a contract year. The Knicks need to just let Marbury play this season, and check his value during the trade deadline. There might be a team that needs someone like Marbury to push them over the hump. If not, and he acts up, you can put him on the inactive list and then just let his contract slip off the cap at year's end. Releasing him so he can go sign with another team, yet still get paid by the Knicks, is just bad business.
