Alan, love your stuff always great. What's going on with Curry. I understand him not playing b/c hes out of shape and out of touch (and can't grab a rebound unless there was a twinkie tied to it) but wouldn't the team wants to showcase him a little to get better trade offers ? Any chance he doesnt pick up his option at the end of the year ?
In response to this, playing him in a system that isn't suited for him would only make him look worse than he actually is (that's not even mentioning his poor conditioning).
I'd rather him sit on the bench than "showcase" him.
I'm trying to post a quetion but It doesnt get posted.........well here is my question.
Do you think the coach is really thinking of winning this season or is he just going to evaluate on the actual games that count on what players to keep and play for the Knicks long term plans?
Hi Alan,
I'm sorry I missed the chat, but I have a journalism question I would like to ask anyway, if you don't mind. Isiah Thomas has been in the news recently and almost all the articles mention that he lost the Anucha Browne Sanders suit. This is actually untrue. MSG lost their part of the suit. The separate suit against Isiah ended up in a hung jury. I don't think this is a technicality either, because my understanding of the testimony is that Anucha complained to her management, but not to Isiah, about his behavior and other behavior. Her management didn't do anything and no one talked to Isiah (neither Anucha or management). If no one told Isiah his behavior was unwelcome, then he may be very insensitive and boorish, but I don't see him as guilty.
So my question for you is why is the media piling on Isiah by reporting the past inaccurately?
I assume questions are reviewed by the moderator and Hahn first before winding up on the live chat, so keep sending in questions.
Roberson won't put even ONE more victory in the "win" column! Dolan can pay a complete nincompoop like Thomas millions to "hang around", but can't absorb $800K for Roberson! Gimme a break! Another 50+ loss season for the laughing stock of the NBA>
Hey Alan,
Here's my question for you, even though we're not in chat mode anymore:
In one breath, you say that D'Antoni doesn't really see players as a 2 or a 3 or a 4 or a, well, you get the point. He just sees them as guards or forwards.
But in the next breath, you say that Wilson Chandler can't replace Richardson in the starting lineup because D'Antoni sees him as a 4, not a 3.
So my question is, which one is it? If D'Antoni really only sees guards and forwards, then surely he could play Randolph, Lee, and Chandler at the same time, right?
And as a more philosophical point, shouldn't your 5 best players be in the starting lineup, provided they don't all play the same exact position? If Chandler is better than Q Rich, which I think he is, why not put him in the starting lineup?
Youre absolutely right brother.
if they let go brainless Balkman than they shoud dump brainless Curry and clueless Jeromes James.
these guys are dissgraceful
if they can not grasp what they need to do to be better than theyre lacking upstairs
amen
Or better yet...sit Crawford and start Q at the 2 and Chandler at the 3. Then bring Craw, Gallo and Nate in...that gives us the most size and rebounding in the starting 5 so we have a CHANCE versus bigger teams.
I would play Chandler 40+ minutes a night. He has the most upside of any Knick. I just hope he can stay healthy all year.
He really is our future Shawn Marion.

Matt - Will is very athletic but he's not in Marion's class as an athlete. Marion's may be the most athletic frontcourt player in the league, and his second jump is the quickest that I can think of among active players, which allows him to match up at the 4. Having said that I'm with you on force feeding him minutes to see if he'll progress.
The problem is that neither Crawford nor Q offers much on the perimeter. I know Q has "experience" in the D'Antoni system, but he is also a shadow of his former self and perhaps the worst starter in the league last year. Crawford's limitations have been discussed here ad nauseum and are well known. For all the concern over the bigs, the Knicks are looking at getting killed on the perimeter on a nightly basis. And no, Marbury isn't the answer. At least Will offers the potential to match up physically with NBA 2's and 3's, despite D'Antoni's power forward fantasy.
Cmon people this aint rocket science here .
If you start chandler then Rose is the only big off the bench since Curry is not paying and Jefferies is out . So lets say tonight lee and Randolph pick up 2 quicks ones matched up against beasley and haslem .and Chandler picks up 2 matching up at times against Wade. Then who will comes off the bench that has size ?
Some of you are just horrible game planners because youre blinded by favoritism. It doesnt matter if Q starts because I know for a fact that unless he is in foul trouble or just playing horribly he will get more minutes per game than Q..I also know that neither Q or Chandler have the guard skills of Crawford so no way you put either at the two unless its a emergency . I dont know what type of uptempo you would expect to run with either of those guys handling the ball.
We need cohesion and the ability to play 48 minutes as a team. So no you have to have a second unit that can keep the pressure on opponents when they try and sub.If they cant rest their starters it benefits us in the 4th quarter with our pace.
@Luke,
Those are some good points. It makes a lot more sense than saying, "D'Antoni considers chandler a 4," which is Alan's argument.
