Q Bomb drops on Marbury
More in the print edition . . . but here's a tease:
“I don’t consider him my teammate, so, I mean, whatever," Quentin Richardson said. "He hasn’t played with us all year, he doesn’t want to play with us. He’s expressed that a second time, so whatever. I don’t look at him as a teammate because teammates don’t do that. Regardless of what you have going on with the organization or what you have going on with your coach or whatever, you’re not going to allow your teammates to be left out there the way they were left out there . . . Regardless of how you’re trying to stick it to whoever. At the end of the day, we’re getting left out there and we’re shorthanded, people are hurt and people are still playing. Chris is banged up pretty bad. He’s got an ankle injury and his back is messed up pretty bad and he’s playing. But I mean, once again, I don’t really pay any attention to it because I don’t look at him as a teammate anyway.”

I know Q takes a lot of flack for trash-talking opponents, like he did last week with the Celtics. But he is a vocal leader and finally aired out some frustrations with Marbury that I'm sure a lot of other players on the team share.
As Q said, it's one thing to stick it to the coach but another to stick it to your teammates. Hopefully this is one of the final straws for Marbury.
I would have demanded that BunsheeBury dress up and play.
During the game, I would've inserted him and if he refuse to go in, huddle up with a legal team to figure out how to void and nullify his contract.
At a minimum, suspend him and dock his pay.
You cannot and must not abandon your teammates.
Who is Q? What has he won. ZIp. Hell he has never even been the best player on his team since Depaul. Q- why don't you step up and give us a couple of 30/10 games in a row. You disappear more than Dick Bevetta' whistle in crunch time. I mean If it was his choice why does he have to say yes?
Supposedly, D'antoni asked the players their take on Steph and everyone wanted him gone. Q_You as the supposed leader could have stood up and said we need everybody, but you chose to act the like a teenage girl and play the"clique" game. D'antoni gave into the pressure. But now you all want him. "SAy hello to the BAD guy"
Q-Trick You are a grown A$$ man. quit crying. Please (SDASTFU) matter of fact take of that #23. you've been Keeping warm for Lebron.
Q, Thank you for saying what needed to be said.
Q stfu !! u r not and WILL NEVER BE representative of ny bball anyway. steff stick to ur guns and f*ck these new jack coaches n gm's who tryna use you and ruin you. lets these 'massas' know they cant sh*t on strong black men who aren't afraid to voice their opinion. they didn't want you all along and tried to dog u out, NOW they wanna save face and drag u into this mess they created to most likely make u the scapegoat AFTER THEY stirred the pot and let the 2 leading scorers go. sh*t is only gonna snowball from here. stick to ur guns son & don't get moist on us REAL ny cats. some of us still got ya back. til' they treat u right and release u just sit back, cheer ur current teammates on, keep ur mouth shut and let them swim in their own sh*t !!

You're pathetic, prowler, pulling the "massa" card on this situation. The only thing the "man's" been sticking to Marbury is $20M worth of cash into his bank account each year to don a uniform and do what's asked or what's not asked of him on the basketball court. In return, Stephan's been nothing short of a cancer in every professional situation he's been in. What kind of human being lets his crew down? His teammates are playing their hearts out shorthanded, and you applaud Marbury for letting them "swim in their own sh*t." Very nice. You, like Marbury, have no true sense of what a team, family, crew, platoon, etc is. You think the team should shutup and respect Marbury's right to be a big baby with a bruised ego, while Marbury sh*ts on the team at the end of the bench when needed. That ain't REAL New York. You'd applaud the coward escaping across the Brooklyn Bridge to save his own *ss while the rest of his short-handed squad was running up the steps of a collapsing tower. Same deal.
I never hide how much I loathe the SplinterBuried
But this is all Donnie Walshs Fault!!!
Dont make a trade if your not going to have enough guys to play!!!
Now Nate is injured because you overplayed him on Back to back nights.
Donnie cant Scapegoat the loathesome SplinterBuried for this one.
Its Your FAULT Donnie Walsh for not makeing a trade and bringing back enough guys..
In fact if he had timed it better we might have won the Milwaulkee game.
I know alot of you guys love these trades but IM SICK OF LOSING. I dont want to watch garbage for 2 years.
How is all this BULLSHT any different from Isiah???
we split seaon tickets up in hopes of change. Now im going to watch blowouts all season.
I predict FIRST that David Lee will not WANT to sign with the Knicks.. he's been slighted too many times.
For whoever called Q-Rich a loser, at least he was a pretty significant part of a team that reached the Conference Finals in Phoenix in 2005. With the current coach as his coach. Marbury has never been out of the 1st round in his entire career. Neither one of them are winners, but definitely Steph is a much bigger loser than Q-Rich.

NO FAN OF THOMAS Magic Johnson said he would not make the same mistake twice and recommend Isiah Thomas for front-office or coaching jobs.
Five years ago, Johnson told Knicks executives that they should hire Thomas, his friend.
Thomas was fired as the coach and president of the Knicks in April as the team suffered through its seventh straight losing season.
“I couldn’t recommend him again because he’s failed a couple times now,” Johnson said on Bloomberg Radio’s “On the Ball” show to be broadcast Nov. 29. (BLOOMBERG NEWS)
das right magic, kick him while his down
Prowler you're a goof. The man has a contract that exceeds 199 thousand a GAME! It's not his choice to decline play and be a "strong black man" you idiot. Obama is a "strong black man," Marbury is a fallen star with an attitude.
Don't pull that race card stuff, it makes you look very stupid.
As for Marbury, I really would'nt mind seeing his skills back in D'antoni's system, but his refusal to play should somehow help us get his contract nixed. I think Marbury the businessman is faltering and punishment is needed. He can either play in his next game and the forseeable future or it's time to take legal action on this idiodic teammate.
ps Prowler's a moron
"ps Prowler's a moron"
WE ALL KNOW THAT ALREADY.

NY Post: “So far, Walsh has not viewed Marbury's behavior stemming from Friday's incident in Milwaukee as insubordination when he declined a chance to play.
“However, a source said this time Walsh is considering investigating the matter as a contract violation, according to the sources, and fine him a game's pay. Marbury is to make $21.9 million this season, and a game's pay ($199,091) is considered 1/110th the wage.”
Walsh is either hiding something or has no brains. This is the moist bizarre fiasco in sports history. Why have the sports writers not been hounding Walsh for an explanation of why Starby has not been suspended or placed on the inactive list since the season began? Why has the guy has been practicing and traveling with the team and watching the games from the bench? This is insane. End it, Walsh.
DTR
Stephon Marbury is a scumbag. Plain and simple. He will NEVER win anything in the NBA. Hopefully when his contract runs out he will ship his carcas overseas and get paid to be selfish over there. He is the lowest form of matter on this planet today. He does not know about TEAM, he is a cancer. Karma's coming for YOU Marbury.
Hey, let Q speak, someone should. Maybe if his teammates start complaining, they will buy out or suspend this fool for insubordination.
All I know is that this is the second year I've had Knicks season tickets, and Stephon Marbury has ruined the Knicks the last two seasons, from the Phoenix trip last year, to his refusal to play this year. Someone should put you out of your misery Steph, Happy Thanksgiving.
It wouldn't be Thanksgiving without a TURKEY,
thanks for showing up ANON......
Does your Family unlock the chains and let
you out of the basement for a few hours today?
Happy Thanksgiving!
The biggest turkey in NYC is cleary Marbury. What an idiot and turncoat. I hope they dock his bloody pay. He is proving to all other potential teams what a loser and me guy he really is.
Bye Stephanie, poor little baby girl. I hope no one else signs him when he is finally bought out.
I wonder if even the Italian league will take him now. D'antoni used to play and coach there and given Marbury's track record with him, looks like his chances are dropping like a rock.
Hopefully no one signs this bum. Did I hear the D-league is calling?
This is Walsh's fault for not dealing with Marbury earlier and publicly embarrassing him all season. But Steph has no excuse for not playing last night. None. I'm surprised by all the people I know who actually feel Marbury was right in this situation. Either way, this is being very poorly mismanaged and needs to end, at the very least so that the Knicks can become a respectable organization again.
Walsh bent over backwards for Marbury and tried to deal with it earlier. Marbury refused to take a penny less. And there were no teams willing to trade for him. He should have stuck with it at the beginning but he wanted to quit. The fault is on Marbury. He has had problems withr the past 3 coaches. If you have problems with every coach, the problem is probably you.
Response to Comment in Previous Blog.
I would say "Your're Welcome" pverne, but I clearly still didn't help you. I apologize if your obstinate refusal to understand the situation is my fault, because you still don't get it.
You keep crying and shouting about how bad Marbury is. O.K., I'll spot you that often repeated brilliant observation just for the sake of this comment.
So let's take the next step (which should have been done before the regular season). Can you explain why the right move by Walsh was to keep Marbury, the malcontent, poor teammate, here?
Now that you have focused your attention on Walsh, let's take the next baby step. You keep saying that Marbury breached his contract (which I'll concede you read), so explain to me why Walsh did not punish or sue Marbury for such an illegal act and force him to abide by the contract? Assuming you're right, was Walsh smart by not suing or fining Marbury?
So pverne, now that Marbury has rejected D'Antoni's second offer to bail out the Knicks, what will you think of Walsh if he does not dock Marbury's pay from the check he gets at the end of this month? What do you think of Walsh if he never docks Marbury's pay?
Now one last question set for you pverne: If Marbury gets paid his full $199,999 (or so) for refusing to play against the Detriot Pistons, for sitting on the bench in a nice suit, not subjecting himself to inury or the embarassment of playing for a lousy team, for not helping out D'Antoni by lessening the risk of injury or further injury ot his players -- if Marbury get's paid in full for all of that, what would you say about Walsh's decisionmaking. And if Marbury gets paid for either breach of contract, who is the bigger fool -- Marbury with in $21 million or the person who goes to work knowing they aren't smart enough to get away with what he just did?
I look forward to your in-sight or proof of sight.

Bottom Line: Get Marbury Outta here. Dolan, pay him his money or void his contract if you can (yeah, right). You keep losing more everyday. Marbury has already won and he will win more everyday he is on that bench,
I like D'Antoni a lot, but going back to Marbs to ask him to play and having it leaked to the press was a sucker move. What was the point? I thought D'Antoni had to much work to do with incorporating Harrington and Thomas into the scheme to join in the management-media politics?
DAVID STERN WILL YOU PLEASE TAKE DONNIE OUT TO LUNCH AND LAY DOWN A NEW MANDATE.
With Steph's history, who is their right minds gave Marbury a top of the line contract?
Was it Phoenix then it got passed around?
Or was it Zeke?
NOBODY knows if Steph was asked to play last night. D'AnPhony, who is very crafty, only gave a vague answer about it being more of the same from last time, knowing that people would speculate. Well, last time was disputed and it never came to a head about what REALLY transpired. What we need is sports show called "He said, He said" where Marv Albert, who is the most unbiased sports announcer EVER, is the host, where two foes are hooked up to lie detector test and asked the pertinent questions that would get down to the TRUTH, which is what all of us want, right? Not what the media wants us to believe. Steph has been a lot of things, but I don't ever remember him being a LIAR, especially during the trial last year when it would have been very much in his interest to do so...
Everyone looking for someone to blame. It's donnie's fault, it's Steph's fault. Folks, they both deserve part of the blame. Steph's been a me-first guy for his career. By this point in his career, many athletes grow up and realize that team first play wins. Steph still hadnt gotten it yet. Maybe he will at his next stop. People always have an opportunity to learn and grow. we'll see. Walsh could obviously ended this before camp but chose to take what seems to be his trademark patient approach. No need to rush a decision. Well...that hasn't worked out to well in the Steph situation. This will end. Steph will play somewhere else. Trying to fix all the blame on one-side or the other just leads to alot of ranting and raving. I guess that's OK. It is a blog.
to all u fools who re-upped on your ticket packages this year and are crying now deserve it!! first and foremost the economy SUCKS bigtime to be spending your hard earned $$ to watch these misfits. bush and his boys behind the scenes in the federal gov't, the bankers & wall st. screwed us and NOW dolan, walsh & no-deeAntoni are screwing us. its all one big game to them. first they were focused on turning things around w/ a new regime n winning w/ no distractions and now look where we are after a few weeks. i knew some sh*t like this would happen that's why i didn't re-up on MY package. the writing was on the wall after danilo went down like laron landry gettin' run over by brandon jacobs...never to be seen again. then the dealings w/ steff after GAME ONE..it was clear.
like i said before, i too want steff gone. he is not a winner, he is bad teammate etc etc. but all you fools who don't see his point of view are the same ppl who your bosses sh*t all over you at work and jerk you out of your OT, time & a half and holiday bonuses...and u sit there and do nothing about it. you let ppl walk all over you. you are SHEEP. i could care less what you cattle say to me. that's why u will remain on the BOTTOM of the food chain while the wolves and lions like myself and the few others on this blog stay strong & wise and see beyond the bullsh*t.
be strong steff, it shouldn't be much longer.
Was Q a "teammate" when D'Antoni and Knicks stuck it to Steph and shelved him? How many "teammates" stood up and said Steph was one of the best players on the team and should be playing regardless of the Knicks "future plans?" Now "Q" finds fault with Stephon for not being willing to bail the Knicks out when they are in a numbers crunch that was of their own making. Double standard Q. No one cared about Steph as a teammate when they were getting theirs. Now the season starts off miserable, trades are made, the team is short handed and Steph is supposed to come to the rescue? F#@# that and good for Steph for not compromising himself. Knicks, please do the right thing. Pay Stephon what you owe him, release him and let him play ball for a decent team that will utilize his skills appropriately.
"So with three starts under his belt entering Friday night’s meeting with the Toronto Raptors, Lopez (averaging 15.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in those starts)"
And the above excludes Brook's last 2 games as a starter:
His 2 recent games as starter:
Against Lakers: 17 pts., 10 bounds, 3 blocks, and 2 assists
Against Kings last night: 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists
@Michael
Do the math. Class dismissed.
This whole thing is crazy. It just keeps getting worse. I highly doubt that Marbury was offered the starting role. If Q is going to be a leader, he should stop going to the media, and talk to Steph about it. Then if he throws it back in his face, then go to the media and say he isn't a teammate.
If the team needs him, they should band together and apologize to him. If you need him, tell him you need him and the past is the past. Everyone in this situation needs to grow up, seriously.
So many Marbury haters, Allan Hahn included, just want to see him fail, blame him for every shortcoming of this team. Apparently, it is MArburys fault now that Crawford got traded, MArbury's fault that Mobley isn't healthy, MArbury's fault Nate got hurt.
Why doesn't everyone man up, and settle this, if you don't want Marbury, pay him to leave, but you are just wasting 3 spots on your roster with Marbury, James, and Gallinari. What did they think was going to happen?
Marbury isn't demanding all this press, the situation surrounding him is.
Even from what I heard a couple of weeks ago, Clyde said Marbury was helping Duhon with his game. And from what i see, Duhon's game is much improved, he is doing way better than I ever expected. Why don't the rest of the guys make amends with this guy so there is no more tension.
Stick to your guns Steph.
I do think Steph is a cancer to the team but I hope he sticks to his guns and gets all his money. Pay him all his money and let him walk. Why should he accept 15 million when he is scheduled to make 22 million? That's common sense. They said he offered to accept 21 million which is 1 million less but WALSH DECLINED!!!
Someone above said it best. Marbury is not asking for all this press. Obviously there is a rat on the team (Malik) leaking information to the media.
Do what you got to do Steph to get all your money. Don't accept a penny less that what's owed to you.
Once he's brought out....he will go to another team and be in their rotation. He will then come to NY and completely DESTROY Duhon.
Mark my words.
Marbury is in the position of power here and he knows it.
Walsh should've dealt with this before.
Since he didn't....he and the organization have to deal with it.
I do see a resolution coming this weekend.
The Knicks can't continue like this.
Lottery here we come!!!!!!!!!
DaJoka - in a previous post you wrote that Marbury has a high business IQ and Walsh needs to understand where he's coming from (I think it was you). I don't know about his business acumen, but you're bang on with Walsh needing to understand him. What I do know is that he doesn't care about winning or his team situation, and I'm not just throwing that out there to bash him. I mean it - he really only cares about getting paid and nothing else. Period. Think about it - he's never had good relationships with his teams (remember "all alone" in NJ?) and despite playing for perennial losers, really has never developed or evolved his game. I believe he even said in an interview that the way he played made him a max player. (It only takes one idiot GM to be dazzled by his ppg... well and one other to trade for him). That's what's important to him, and that's how he defines himself - not as a winner, but as a max player. He doesn't care if he plays for a doormat, if he's booed or humiliated publicly - the fans could probably pelt him with garbage and it wouldn't matter, so long as he gets his money. Most players who negotiate buyouts do it because there is something else that's important to them like the chance to win a ring (Cassell) or even just a comfortanle team setting (McDyess). Neither of these mean a thing to Marbury. This is what Walsh needs to realize. Marbury won't be sniffing out better opportunities, because he doesn't care where he is, and he can't be driven out through discomfort so long as there is one dollar on the table. This is well known around the league by now too - no one will be offering a pick or a prospect in the spring to rent this creep for a couple of months. So one way or another, the Knicks are paying him. And we're seeing where keeping him around is getting everyone. So give him his money, send him on his way and move on. Fo the love of God.
Lives - I've posted this before, but if there is no refusal of an order to play, then there is no breech of contract. "I have 30 minutes, do you want them?" or "are you willing to help us out tonight" are not direct orders. If Marbury says no, D'A has two options - "tough #$&!@, you're going in" is an order, with the possibility of a breech. "Ok, but that sucks" isn't. If the coach is actually leaving it up to the player, where is the grounds for a fine?
A better question is why is the coach leaving it up to the player?
John k makes a good point. Not unlike the Isiah debates before last season, everything in the Marbury Wars is presented as black and white. I’m not sure it’s that simple.
Marbury has a contract with the Knicks. They owe him X amount of money. He’s perfectly within his rights to demand every penny. That’s what contracts are for. (At the same time, plenty of players have taken reduced buy-outs who weren’t suckers. Let’s face it: $15 or $16 million to NOT play basketball isn’t exactly an insult. Moreover, you can’t blame management for trying, especially if he’s going to sign on with another team. They should offer to make him whole based on total annual income. So if he signs for veterans minimum, they pay his salary minus veterans minimum.)
But if he’s going to stand by his contract, he also has certain obligations under that contract.
I think everybody agrees on one thing: Stephon should have been out of here last summer. I have no doubt Walsh tried and failed. (And I suspect it was Dolan who refused to buy him out at full value.) If the coach doesn’t want to play him, he shouldn’t be anywhere around the team. But if it’s okay for Marbury to play hardball, then management should have the same option. They’re trying to make the situation uncomfortable for Marbury, to force him into taking a reduced buy-out. But Pete’s right --they don’t have a lot of leverage here. They’re trying to embarrass him. But it didn’t work. Steph stuck to his guns. Again, it’s his right. But I also believe if D’Antoni is at fault for anything, it’s for “asking” Stephon to play on the day of the trades. If anything, it appears D’Antoni was respecting his “agreement” with Marbury by phrasing it as a question instead of an order, which was also within his rights as coach.
Was it different this second time? Did Marbury refuse a direct demand from the coach this time? That’s not clear yet. But if he did - irrespective of any casual conversation they may have had months ago about playing time . . . the Knicks could suspend him, or simply stop paying him. In other words, Marbury may have given management exactly what they’ve wanted all along – some leverage against him. “Lives” is right – this will show us management’s game-plan. I would think they have to take disciplinary action against him now. If they don’t . . . then I genuinely don’t understand what they’re doing.
And yet . . . however it was presented to Marbury, it appears he could have played, but chose not to. Was that smart? Some here say yes. Even applaud him for it. I’m not so sure. I guess it’s some kind of moral victory. But is it also a pyrrhic victory? If he had played in a game or two, management would have looked even worse (petty, vindictive and stupid for keeping all that talent on the bench) than they do now. Stephon would have taken up position on the moral high ground. He could have said: “See - I’ve done everything asked of me.” AND he would have improved his reputation around the league. (No small matter for any player in a contract year.) Simply by playing in a few basketball games. AND, because he hasn’t played all year, nothing much would have been expected of him. If he’d come up big, he would have been a hero. If he flopped, he couldn’t be faulted because it was the team’s decision to keep him off the court all season. It was win-win for Marbury. But by not playing, he may have given management exactly the ammunition they’ve lacked against him. Now we’ll have to see if they use it. If they don’t . . . all we can do is sit back and wait to see what they do – ‘cause they gotta do something. They owe it to the team, to Stephon and to the fans.
DaJoka, Pete and Trane, great stuff. As you probably know, it's not about whether we agree (I'm not on here for affirmation), it is about a reasonable assement of the problem and the best way(s) to come to a solution. You guys clearly get it and provide us with different ways to think about how to solve the problem. I hope poster read all three of you and see that it is not just black and white.
Steph needs to go. He is a distraction and his presence is dictating too many other decisions. It's crazy. Solve the damn problem Knicks management.
Thank you guys (and others: you know who you are) for putting us on the level of thinking and disagreement we should be at as concerned fans.
Now, I am going to spend the rest of the day with Sweet Potato(e) pie and "24". Peace.
Maybe in a couple years Steph will come to cleveland as a ball boy or something... he will get to see what championship basketball is like when LeBron and Bosh are bringing titles to the Cavs every year.
ok i'll try this once ok

Marbury will never play in the NBA again. Mark my words.
who cares.
Can somebody please tell me where in the world is Curry?
I think since Curry came in out of shape...I think the Knicks have him working out trying to get into game shape. I don't buy the knee injury. He was on the bench for the first half of the first game and then I guess his knee started hurting so much he couldn't come back out in the second half. Then we all of a sudden don't see him for weeks. They whip him into shape...then we play him and make him look not great, but good enough for a contending team to bite on the deal. We get one or two contracts that come off the books before 2010. I would be simply thrilled if Walsh can package Curry and Jeffries for expiring contracts. Imagine if the only contracts we had on the books for 2010 were Danilo and Chandler. We would have a team of all stars.
The only thing that makes me mad is we have to wait another year before this happens.

I'm dying for some new Knicks news.
Excellant point by Trane trying to understand Marbury's decision making process. It sure looks like Steph values those few million dollars more than the opportunity to play soon for another team. Hence his unwillingness to compromise with Walsh on a buyout. Walsh, it seems, has made offers that fall closer to what seems to be an industry standard. The team pays the player less than full value, the player is free to pursue a better situation. Exactly how much less is part of the art of compromise. However such a deal is predicated on the assumtion that the player values playing basketball over getting every dime of the contract. This assumption seems not to fit Steph. Doesn't make him evil. Just his choice. Walsh isn't evil if he decides not to pay Steph off. Walsh isn't forcing Steph to stay with the Knicks. Steph can always choose to compromise. He probably won't but... that's his call. Again, mildly interesting but not exactly riveting to me since most fans can agree at this point that Steph will never play another game for the Knicks regardless of who we blame.
