Get this: Here's some actual info on the team

Prepare to get pelted with more in the way of Stephon Marbury coverage. Every news outlet in the metropolitan area seemingly descended on Greenburgh this afternoon ... for nothing.

The Knicks aren't expected -- we're emphasizing expected -- to make any announcements regarding a resolution with Marbury today. So we'll have to likely wait at least one more day before this saga ends, and I'm sure most of you are thrilled to know you'll be inundated with more stuff on Marbury.

In the meantime, for those of you who want some actual information on the team that we got from today's practice, we're here to provide it.

-* D'Antoni said Cuttino Mobley was scheduled to undergo more tests on his heart condition today.

-* Nate Robinson and Chris Duhon were both riding stationary bikes while the team had a little 3-on-3 halfcourt action going. Robinson, nursing a strained groin, is doubtful for tomorrow night's contest with the Portland Trail Blazers at The Garden. He's been out since coming up lame in last Tuesday's loss to the Cavs at The Garden.

"We'll wait til tomorrow morning, get him stretched and get him running," D'Antoni said, "and then we'll see."

Duhon, meanwhile, has a bad back. He played through it and dropped 22 dimes in Saturday's win over the Warriors, so there's little reason to think he won't go again tomorrow.

"I practiced a little bit today," Duhon said, adding he didn't do any contact.

-* Jared Jeffries, out since early in training camp with a fractured left fibula, practiced and wasn't shying away from contact. He's been cleared by doctors for 5-on-5 play, although the Knicks weren't able to have a full scrimmage because of the rash of injuries and went mostly 3-on-3 during practice. The assistant coaches were used Friday to help fill out both rosters so the Knicks could scrimmage in full.

Let's just say that left them hurting a bit.

"After the coaches did it, they were in the training room more than the players were," D'Antoni said. "They were dying."

With Jeffries back in the fold, though, that should somewhat help alleviate the problem. For now anyway.

"He'll up it every day," D'Antoni said. "I wish we had 5-on-5 [today]. He could have gone 5-on-5 today. He went through 3-on-3 contact. He can do whatever. He's cleared. Probably medically, he's not quite ready to play yet. But we'll get him back in there."

Jeffries showed off the new form on his 'J' that he's been working on while he's been sidelines. He swished both jumpers he took during the practice window we watched, and it's going to be important for him to be aggressive in D'Antoni's system.

Jeffries said he doesn't think he's going to be able to play in a game until next week because he needs the practice time. With four games this week, including the back-to-back with the Trail Blazers and then King LeBron and the Cavs, the Knicks probably won't be practicing much this week. There's a slight possibility Jeffries might suit up for Sunday's game with the Pistons at the Garden.

Woefully undersized, the Knicks could certainly use his height. Looks like they'll have him soon.

alan, you have any info. on mobley?

great info

hot off the press

The knicks traded for Mobley knowing about the heart issue. They wanted him so they could file for the medical exemption and have him come off the books starting next season.

Random question: With the Blazers coming to town...why is half this blog's Knicks draft savior Jarred Bayless recording DNP: coach's decision in Sunday's game?

SIZE, YOU SAY??

Big Snacks! Big Snacks!

Big Snacks! Big Snacks!

good stuff, alan. i wonder if jerome does get some burn with the team so depleted.

Alan-

Thansk for the Post

love to hear whats going on with my NY KNICKS.

Your earlier Post on BigFatSnacks had me in stichezzzz.

Now we need Cuttino, Curry and Jefferies and we will have a competetive squad.

Jefferies is a utility player. Not a true center he can add size to any line up. If you get him to hit mid range jumpers then the other team is in for a long night. If he masters the bank glass shot ala Tim Duncan he would make a living in the paint. He cant shoot a free throw. But with those long arms he could bank many a glass shots. But we have enough scorers we need a shot blocker presence that can rebound.

Curious and cautiously optimistic to see the lineup with JJ back in it. If Nate gets well soon then Duhon can work on resting his back. After that, it's only a matter of time before we're back at 100%

.500 basketball in NY, anyone? :)

Duhon has a sore back? I hope its not serious - he is indispensable at the moment.

This is a tough stretch of games coming up. Portland is huge up front and playing really well. Same for Cleveland. Both those teams are bad match-ups. Let's hope for speedy recoveries - the Knicks' best hope is to entice teams into trying to run with them (at least they're used to the pace) and the extra legs can only help.

Foolio - Bayless has been racking up the DNP's all season. He can't steal minutes from Fernandez, Blake or Rodriguez. Apparently undersized chuckers who don't pass are less well regarded in Portland then NY. Nice Summer League though.

Bayless is a rookie on a team stacked with guards. They are looking to make some trades in Portland that should free up some time for him. He wouldn't be racking up DNPs with the Knicks thats for sure. He cetainly has more trade value than our #6 pick.

And pay attention to detail people, Roderick Boone wrote this blog entry not Alan.

Knicks4Life4 - true, but he's not exactly playing behind future hall of famers (Roy excluded). Not being able to crack the Blake/ Rodriguez point guard rotation when Roy handles a lot of the playmaking duties says a lot more about Bayless' NBA game then where he was drafted. At his size he is a combo guard at best, and he has no playmaking instincts at all. Especially when the Blazers brass have expressed repeated concern over the spot. It is early, but so far he has been a huge disappointment.

I was really hoping to see Mobley in action for us this year. The guy is actually a solid 2 who D's up and shoots the ball well (and if healthy, is a better fit for our team than Crawford).

@ Pete,
Because Bayless is getting DNP'S....has no true meaning.
There was a Guy named Wilson Chandler who recieved
67+ DNP'S last year. Blake is being Show cased on that team.
Bayless will be the future if he's not plucked by a team with
an intelligent GM. I guarentee at the trade deadline in Feb...
it will all make sense. That's specualation, However, we
know exactly why Gallinari is glued to the bench.
