Knicks statement on Marbury

The following statement was released this afternoon by Donnie Walsh, President, Basketball Operations of the New York Knicks:

“After meeting with Stephon and his representative this afternoon, we have directed Stephon not to participate in practice or attend games until further notice. We want to continue to meet with him to discuss a long-term resolution.”

There is a god!

Geez, ya know, this is getting ridiculous. All Marbury does is continue to soil the rebuilding process and image of the "new" Knicks. Just give him his money, get him to agree not to go anyone in the division, and call it a day.

the Knicks are owned by Cablevision which also owns Newsday!!!

c'mon fixers, quit worrying about all this. the players don't seem to care. he's not on the team anymore. they're 8-8 with a much-improved cap situation. times are good.

Brian, how is this Stephons fault? If the Knicks really don't want him around then pay him ALL his money and he will be happy to walk away.
Marbury is still winning this battle of wits as he now gets to sit home and collect his $21 million and do nothing. He will stay in shape and then he'll just go to another team next year and make the Mid Level Exeption. Life is good for Marbury.
Marbury will be on our roster this entire season until Donnie pays him.
Way to stick to your guns Steph.
Don't let them walk all over you.
Donnie will never learn. Marbury is business savy and he's not going to go down quiet.
Way to go Steph.
I'm behind you on this one...(no homo)

"Way to go Steph....I'm behind you on this one..."

DaJoka,

The American Psychiatric Institute has definitively proven that the blogger's fingers go where his/her fantasies reside. Freud, too, discussed this undisputed medical fact in great detail decades ago.

So there's no harm in admitting that you have long desired to be trailing Mr. Marbury. By so doing, you have merely expressed your latent penchants, hopes, and dreams.

After all, medicine and its finest minds long ago validated this fact.

So blog on, DaJoka, blog on.

Marbury is still winning this battle of wits as he now gets to sit home and collect his $21 million and do nothing. He will stay in shape and then he'll just go to another team next year and make the Mid Level Exeption. Life is good for Marbury.

Really? Steph will just walk into an MLE next season - at age 32, after not playing for a year and a half, and after playing petty games with one of the most respected GMs in the league and being branded the worst team cancer in the NBA?

Yeah, best of luck with that.

Maybe he oughta put some of that $21 mil aside for plane tickets ti Italy. Might be the only place he'll be able to get a hoops gig after this fiasco.

Great post Don. I for one wish this whole mess would just go away, but we have a stalemate. There's no way they will back down. I guarantee he will sit the season out. Stephan, get an agent. Yes they cost money, but think how much you have blown in lost future wages.

Marbury has never won a battle of wits....never will. Not only is he not that bright, but he's allergic to winning.

It's funny to me how some athletes never figure out the value of putting on a happy face...even if it's fake. Marbury started good. He worked out hard this offseason. He said all the right things...for a while. And then he got benched. D'Antoni said we had too many guards, but we may need you later. All he had to do was ride the pine for a quarter million bucks a game... and cheer for his teammates, give high fives, keep his mouth shut, and wait. Then when the trades and injuries went down, he could have been ready to play. That's what 1/4 of the players in the NBA have to do everyday. Practice hard, even though they know they aren't playing. Steph couldn't do it. And for that he has no future in the league. He could have been a hero.

Stephan, get an agent. Yes they cost money, but think how much you have blown in lost future wages.

Word.

If he was still paying David Falk for his services, he'd be on a playoff team making the Vet's Minimum, and he'd have $18 mil of Dolan's money in the bank.

There's a reason guys like Falk make that money - they're willing to be the bad guy in these situations. Starbury isn't paying anyone to be the bad guy, so he's the bad guy. It's really gonna hurt him down the road, IMO.

Some team will probably take a chance on Steph next year alot like the Knicks did with Latrell Sprewell. Who the hell knows. I cant stand Steph but I could see it happening. He signs with a playoff team and becomes an awesome 6man being on his best behavior. Cant wait to see him gone but if he comes back with another team he'll be out for blood.

I think the read on this is wrong. There was in fact a resolution today - one that now has Marbury nowhere near the Knicks. He can't go to practice or games. He'll never be a part of the team again in any capacity.

This is over.

"Really? Steph will just walk into an MLE next season - at age 32, after not playing for a year and a half, and after playing petty games with one of the most respected GMs in the league and being branded the worst team cancer in the NBA?"

Yes he will. Just incase you haven't been reading the news...there are multiple teams that are just waiting for Steph to clear waivers and become a free agent. Miami is at the top of the list with Dallas, San Antonio and Boston close behind. 3 of those 4 teams have a chance to win the Chip this year and next year. I guess it's true that people do actually live under a rock lol. Maybe you just chose to skip that part of the article, I'm really not sure.

Not sure who Anonymous is so I'll leave him or her alone. Maybe it's a shim.

Anyway, Steph doesn't need an agent. He's doing fine by himself. Can somebody please tell me what Steph did that was so wrong here? He did everything he was supposed to do. If he was given a clean slate as "the boss" said, what exactly did he do wrong?

I'm not saying Steph is a saint but it feels good to see a player stick it to his team once in a while. All the lies these GM's tell the players then turn around and do something different. It's sickening sometimes. Remember when Larry Bird told Jermaine O'neal that they would rehire Isiah? O'neal resigned with the Pacers, then they turn around and fire Isiah.

Marbury is winning this because everybody in their right mind knows the only way to get rid of Steph is to pay him all his money. Why is that so hard to understand? You want Marbury to take a 5 or 6 million dollar discount? Are you nuts?

If you don't think Steph can get the MLE from a team like Dallas (by the way, Mark Cuban loves Stephon)...when the Knicks gave the MLE to Duhon...your off your meds.

Stand strong Steph. Yes it's true that nobody here wants you on the Knicks (me included) but that doesn't mean they don't have to pay you all your money. Get your money man!!!!!!!!

I can't even laugh at Marburys' comment about being disrespected. He has always felt that he is above the team and has disrespected many coaches. The damage that he has done to "Hall of fame" coaches alone should have banished him from the league. There is no Stephon in the word TEAM and we are already playing better without him. I pitty the next team his EGO infects..Yuck!!

DaJoka,

Ad hominems aside - I'll stay civil, even though you've already given up that part of the bargain - it's you that's missing the point here.

Marbury has been Steve Francis-ed. He's been Tim Thomas-ed.

Not. Going. Anywhere. Except back into his Rolls Royce and home to his mansion, which is not the home base of an NBA franchise.

In short - he's not a part of the NBA any more. He's in limbo. Donnie Walsh has seen to that.

Walsh is a lawyer. He does negotiations for a living.

Marbury is a professional ball player. His livelihood is playing basketball. And as of today, he legally cannot do that. He's constrained. He could be in demand by 27 NBA teams, but all he can do at this point is sit at home at watch himself get too old to play for an NBA team.

He can't do a thing until Donnie Walsh says so.

And you think he's winning here?

There's a reason players like Michael Jordan and Patrick Ewing and about 80 other NBA players decided to pay the guy that Marbury fired - to avoid getting into a situation like this.

DaJoka, you are a joke. Steph is winning? The biggest cancer in basketball is winning because he got sent home? This isn't just management vs. player. His TEAMMATES hate him! He walked out on them last year in phoenix and this year in detroit. He's a joke and worth the nickname 'biggest cancer in basketball'.

But yeah, keep it up steph. your doing a hell of a job.

dude, you're a good DUDE. How can any Knick fan feel sorry for a guy tha tA) ruined our team(with the help of I.T.) B) deserted our team last year(debatable) and has undermined every coach he has ever played for and finally C)..still gets paid $ 21.9 million. He'll make more this year than most of us will in our lifetimes. Boy, and he still doesn't get it. Do y'all think I.T. would still make that deal with Phoenix?
