Brandon George of The Dallas Morning News is reporting that free agent Devean George is likely not returning to the Dallas Mavericks.
According to George's story, the Mavs only have two roster spots left and little money.
Take a look at the list of teams lining up for George: the Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers and New Orleans Hornets. The Boston Celtics could also get involved after losing James Posey to the Hornets.
I'm going to rule out the Hornets because George and Posey play the same position and the Hornets are plenty deep already.
The Suns and Spurs could use some help off the bench, especially the Spurs who let Brent Barry go to Houston. Michael Finley is nearing the end and Robert Horry is already there.
The Timberwolves are a possibility because George played his college ball in Minnesota (at Augsburg).
The Cavs need to get LeBron some help, but I don't see them as an option because the Cavs have forwards off the bench. They need another scorer to take the pressure off LeBron.
I think the Celtics could become more than involved. George could take over Posey's role on the Celtics (play defense, veteran leadership, hit a big 3, etc.).
If I had to guess I would say this will come down to the Spurs and Celtics.
Also, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is reporting that the Heat have interest in former Suns backup Brian Skinner. Jackson also reports that former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown is starting to schedule visits with teams. The Heat, however, won't be one of the them.
Finally, Jackson reports that the Nets are close to acquiring Keyon Dooling in a sign-and-trade with the Magic.
