Miguel Cotto-Antonio Margarito fight set

The good news is that welterweight champions Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito will fight a unification bout on July 26 at at the MGM Grand Resort & Casino, Las Vegas. It will be an HBO pay-per-view event.

The bad news for East Coast fight fans is that it will not be held at Madison Square Garden. Cotto has had most of his recent fights at the Garden or in Atlantic City. In it's current issue, "The Ring" magazine is calling this fight, Floyd Mayweather's gift to boxing. It's true, Pretty Boy has avoided both men for the last several years. So now they'll fight each other.

Thanks Floyd! -- CASSIDY

Let's get it on! This one should be a dandy, and a very tough fight to call. Cotto's giving up some height here.

Cotto has been dynamite lately. But I agree. It's a tough one to call because Margarito has a chin of granite. This will be the ultimate test for Cotto, I want to see how he performs deep in a fight with the pressure on.

This is gonna be a good one!

Cass,
We finally have a great fight to look forward to.
The prediction from this pugilistic viewer is, Cotto wins an excellent fight.......

Margarito is obviously the lengthier opponent. But the fact is, he doesn't know how to use this advantage against his opponents. Against a fighter like Miguel, Antonio must use his reach to keep Miguel from getting inside to attack the body. IT so happens that Miguel is the better boxer of the two, which is an important factor in this fight. Margarito throws lots of punches, but as he throws he comes straight forward and has the tendencies of becoming off balance. Look for Cotto to move out of the way of the punches and work his way inside to the body. hand's down Cotto wins the fight whether it be by decision or TKO. Margarito just doesn't have the skill needed to fight an opponent like Miguel. Although he is very tough, he hasn't fought anyone of Miguel's caliber. Miguel, in recent fights has defeated Judah, Mosley, Gomez. Margarito on the other hand beat Clottey (who is not a puncher nor boxer of Miguel's caliber, and who would have definitely won the fight hadn't he broken his hand.),Golden Johnson (washed up), and Kermit Cintron (heartless punk).
