The Neutral Corner

A Pacquiao-Mayweather fight would rank among the biggest in history. Now, in terms of PPV numbers and gross, it's unlikely any fight will surpass De La Hoya-Mayweather. Although, De La Hoya-Pacquiao has a chance.

But back to the point. A Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would still do great numbers, but more importantly, it's a great fight. It would pit the last two pound-for-pound champs in a fight while still in their relative primes. Many people still see the Oscar-Manny fight as an oddity. As a matchup between guys who really shouldn't be fighting. For Oscar, it's a money grab. Physically, he's far more suited to fight Antonio Margarito. And physically, Manny is far more suited to fight Floyd. Mayweather's natural size is much close to Manny's current size.

Here's the other element that would make it a great fight. They have the contrasting styles and personalities to make it intriguing. Just think Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier and Sugar Ray Leonard-Roberto Duran. They were classics and not just because they were all great fighters. Those fights stretched beyond the realm of boxing because of the personalities involved. Good guy vs. Bad guy. Flashy fighter vs. Rugged brawler.

One more reason this fight could happen if Manny wins. Floyd loves to show Oscar up. He loves to demonstrate that he's the engine that drives boxing, and not Oscar. Well, he's wrong on that account. But Mayweather-Pacquiao is still a great fight.
