Manny Pacquiao doesn't need Floyd Mayweather, but what about Shane Mosley?
To this corner, Manny Pacquiao is in the driver's seat. He's on top, he should dictate terms. He is wildly popular at home and in the States. If he fights Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Sugar Shane Mosley or Miguel Cotto, it's big business.

Let's try to make some sense of all the talk, internet posts and news reports.
1. Manny Pacquiao wants to fight again in October. We suggested here that Pacquiao should fight that bout in the Philippines. One thing for certain, Mayweather -- win or lose in July -- won't be ready to fight Pac Man in October.
2. Making a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight even more difficult to happen is PBF's demand that he get a 60-40 split. Bob Arum told the Philippine Star, “You can tell Floyd Mayweather that Bob Arum said he’s delusional... Floyd is not the attraction. Manny is the attraction. Floyd’s got no idea what he’s talking about... Even a 50/50 split with Floyd Mayweather is nonsense.”
OK, moving right along.
3. A Miguel Cotto (should he get by Joshua Clottey) and Pac Man fight is very intriguing. They are both promoted by Arum so there would be few obstacles. When you add the Latino market to the PPV audience, numbers should jump. The catch here is that Cotto has already intimated he's not too interested in fighting at a catch weight of say, 144. Remember, he was more than happy to leave 140 and stop sucking weight, so why go back? Well, money will do that to you.
4. Now enter Sugar Shane Mosley. Dan Rafael quoted Sugar Shane on ESPN.com as saying,
"I want it to be known that I want to fight Pacquiao and I want to fight him now," Mosley said. "I'm willing to meet at a catch weight to make that happen. I know this is what [Pacquiao trainer] Freddie Roach wants as well, as he has previously stated this to press. I am the best fighter in boxing and I am ready to reclaim the title of No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter."
The bottom line is that Mosley needs either Mayweather or Pac Man. Yes, the obvious fight is Pac Man vs. Mayweather. But how many times has the obvious fight not been made? Too many. Mosley has also attempted to bait Mayweather into a fight, but PBF has never seemed interested in fighting Shane. Why is that?
Which leads us to ... October 17, 2009, Manila, Manny Pacquiao vs. Sugar Shane Mosley.
Neither of these guys are ever in a dull fight. Please, someone make it happen.

Shane Mosley & Manny Pacquiao doesn't need Floyd Mayweather to be considered the best boxers in their generation because both these fighters have already proven their willingness to fight even in the face of certain defeat fight after fight. They take their chances and that's what separate them from other wannabes. With respect to Floyd's defensive boxing abilities he is in no way even compare to the greatness of other ATG's of the past, he is a great boxer and that is all their is to it, just a great boxer but without any credibility due to his inability to face boxers with the potential to beat him.
Your analysis of the situation is spot on. At least for now. But money talks, a Pac-Man - Mayweather fight may still materialize. But Pacquiao vs. Moseley is equally if not more than attractive to the fans. Yes, Pacquiao vs. Moseley, the Moseley that PBF is running away from, is the fight I want. Manila or Vegas, I'll go.

While it's great for the fans to have a bout in the Philippines, it unfortunately is'nt great for making money. For the same reasons Hatton / Pacquiao was not make in the UK where they could have packed a stadium with 90,000 fans, the money is in the US, and Vegas casinos pay the promoters big to have the fight in Vegas.
Considering all facts(tired of pointing it out - read the facts yourselves), I believe that there will be a Mosley/Manny fight in Oct. Will people buy it? I doubt so! At 143, Mosley will be another Dela Hoya - a fighter with issues: Age and weight. The talk about a Mayweather/Manny fight is getting to be a retard endeavor.
Manny's "schedule" is in conflict with Mayweather. Purposely so. Because Manny is scared to fight Floyd! Manny announced that he wants to fight in Oct and we all know that Mayweather can't do another fight just after 3 months! See the conflict there?
If Manny really wants to fight Floyd, he must fight Mosley NOW(asap). Fight and beat Mosley... then fight Mayweather next year. Otherwise, Cotto.
What I would suggest Manny should do is for him to act and talk like a warrior. Drop everthing in his perephery(acting/singing/guesting/billiard/Gambling/chasing women) and start acting like a real boxer. I suggest that Manny address Mayweather directly and challenge him to a fight! If I were Manny, I'd say, "Floyd, you are one hoax and I'm challenging you to a fight to prove once and for all who is the best pound for pound fighter of the world". That's how medieval warriors pick fights!
Manny doesn't have to act like a jerk. He only has to address Floyd in television and challenge him to fight! If not 50/50, then free! Let's just fight for free and donate all the proceeds to charity!
Once Manny does that, people should follow suit. Pass a petition for everybody to sign urging Floyd to accept Manny's challenge. Media then would relentlessly pressure Floyd to fight Manny.
Forget about reason, forget about logic. Forget about what's fair and what's not. Forget about who gets more and who gets less. Forget about all the debate on who is the best! LET THIS ONE FIGHT DECIDE WHO IS THE GREATEST!
If that happens, I assure all of you, their fight will be the biggest event in sports(not just boxing) history!

If setting the fight on Oct 3 means ducking Scared Floyd, what do you call Floyd announcing his fight with JMM on the day of Pac-Hatton fight so he can duck Manny?
If it is possible, I think Manny should fight earlier than Oct. 17. Maybe 1st week of September might be an ideal date cause a third fight for Manny could be arranged on December to capped his 2009 schedule. I don't think either Mayweather or Pacquiao is ducking or afraid of each other. They will fight on a right price. The "right price" is the main problem in making the fight happen.
If it ever does happen, the next question is who would win?
For me I wanted Pacquiao to win but if I'm going to bet my house into it, I would bet it on floyd. Pacquiao may catch him but PBF is a tough cookie as well and pacuiao more likely will catch him going backward which would lessen the impact of his punch. He will just run like hell and he will win on points.
If Pacquiao and mosley would happen, I would rather not bet at all because it is dead even. Let's not forget that Mosley's fight was very impressive against Margarito. Pacquiao would also have difficulty with mosley's reach advantage of 73 and power on both hands compared to pacquiao's powerful 67. The only good thing is that father time might catch mosley and with a "catch weight" of 143-144 maybe father time may not be needed at all.

Arum chose October 17 for Pacman's next fight to leverage the 50-50 purse split in a potential fight with PBF. Another reason is to spite him for avoiding a logical date for meeting up with Pacman. His announcement of fight with Marquer some odd hours before the Pacman-Hatton fight clealry signal his wanting not to fight Pacman nextt. PBF wants Pacman to risk losing to either Cotto, Mosley or somebody else. The only problem with that is that a megafight with Pacman may not happen, should Pacquiao loses, thus cancelling out PDF's biggest chance of raking in 30 millions +. This means PBF will request a later date say end of October or mid- November The fireworks have began between Pacman camp and PBF. This fight will happen. Either Cotto or Mosley may not suit up for a fight with Pacman given that they both will not agree to drop down to 142. Cotto would go down as low as 145. Why Marquez agreed to fight PBF at 147 is a sign of desperation and a lack of smarts. It won't be smart for Pacman to square off with Mosley at higher than 142. The size difference is just too much. PBF might be forced to go down to 142 or 143 as concession if a fight with Pacman would be scheduled much later than Oct 17. Then Pacman would be more willing to settle for a 50-50.. If PBW knocks Marquez out, then maybe he would insist on somethng like 55 45. But he would start at 60-40. But Arum will not let that happen. It will come down to either 52-48 in favor of Pacman, or 50-50 if the bout would be moved beyond Oct 17. Arum knows PBFhas money problems. He is desperate. He also knows that PBF is more afraid of facing Cotto or Mosley than facing Pacman beacus eof his much smaller size. He knows he can dance around Pacman and avoid his lethal punches. Arum is making excellent chess-like moves as always. He always wins. PBF, despite all his bluffing around the Pacman issue, knows that real money is available only with Pacaman. If Pac is smart, he should extend his retirement so that PBf will be forced to square off with either Cotto or Mosley first. He will thus face the real possibiliy of an upset. A stained record will force him to accede down to the terms of a returning Pac. All of this may seem convoluted logic, but it is not too far off from the realm of possibility. Remember, in any of these possible scenarios, it is Arum who will executing the nifty chess moves. The guy got a degree in law from Harvard. The demands of PBF is not going to work coz he is throneless

I shared on one writer's opinion that fighting Mosley would not do good for Manny for the simple reason that people will say that Mosley is old or not already on his prime - should Manny wins which is sure to happen. I would rather go for a Cotto fight at an agreed weight. I am not keen on Gayweather fight as he will not subscribe for 60-40 sharing in favor of Manny, but that will be an interesting fight should he wins against Marquez, which I doubt. My other option is a fight with Valero at 140 lbs. I guess this is a lot better than fighting Mosley.

I will Fight Marquez and leave Manny to fight with either Cotto or Mosley. Either way, Manny he loses and makes good his promise of running in the 2010 elections. That way, I'd be able to discard Manny from the equation. He's just too dangerously bad for my business.
Now, once Manny is out of the picture, I'd be able to fight and beat the ageing Mosley and dance my way to victory against Cotto.

Mayweather-Mosley should of have happened when they were the 130 & 135 champions, respectively. That was a natural. It didn't happen then, because Mosley decided to move up in weight. Floyd was right there, man. Mosley could've fought him, and you know DAMN well Floyd would've took that fight; he was ready to move up and you know he wanted to do it in style.
