Report: Salamo Arouch, who boxed at Auschwitz, has died in Israel

Here is an interesting report from UPI: "Jewish boxer Salamo Arouch, who honed his skills against fellow prisoners at the Auschwitz death camp, has died in Israel at the age of 86, his daughter says... Arouch's daughter, Dalia Ganon, confirmed her father died near Tel Aviv, Israel, of unspecified causes on April 26 after seeing his health steadily decline since last year, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday."

Arouch was made to fight other prisoners at the concentration camp strictly for the amusement of the Nazi guards. In 1989, a film, "Triumph of the Spirit," was made about Arouch's experiences. Willem Dafoe starred in the movie and was trained by Teddy Atlas at Gleason's Gym for the role. -- CASSIDY
