Where does Manny Pacquiao rank in history?
It now becomes an interesting question. Manny Pacquiao has won world titles in six weight classes. He's beaten a slew of fighters who will probably end up in the hall of fame. He has looked completely dominant in his last two fights. So where does the Pac Man rate on the all-time, pound-for-pound list?
Does he rank up there with Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Joe Louis and Willie Pep?
Is he the best fighter of his generation, but not an all-time great? We'll let you decide.

Beating an ordinary fighter like Hatton does not all of a sudden make some one great.
Maybe better than Ali but in the clay of Sugar Ray Robinson.
manny pacquaio is the best pound for pound king that's ever step foot in a boxing ring.

His success was nothing ordinary. The man is so committed to his chosen profession. Many athletes have let success gone to their heads. Manny has remained humble, soft-spoken and gracious. These are only a few traits that bespeak the true athletes of humankind. He truly deserves a place in history. I don't know much about Ali and Sugar Ray but these men were given their due in their moments in history. It should be the same for Manny. This is his time. Let him savor it and let us give him his due.
We can rank him one of the greatest boxing of all time for he is the only guy who one a 6 weight class in a short period. And seeing him develop his a talent of a good boxing artist who can KO or TKO an opponent in just two rounds. He has the power of the Heavyweight class and entertaining guy to watch like Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard. People in boxing love and adore him.
He makes history of boxing more famous now in his era. That knows one had ever done before. He is like Ali who been love but in a different way with style.
And being humble and love by his fans. A people's champ..............
A hall of famer like Sugar Ray, Ali and others. He change the history of boxing in the extreme entertaining sport like Michael Jordan in his era in basketball.
Manny Pacquaio is truely a pound-for-pound best, his talent and courage are tested amoung the best. Manny is rank amoung the best boxer of all time with Ali, Sugar Ray, and Louis.
yo, musonda..the talk is about where 'pacquiao is at right now'..it means the status of him, being just a 'hall of famer' or an 'all time great'..did it ever occur to you that the 2 fighters you mentioned are all time greats? so, if you're implying that he's between the two..it simply means that he (Manny Pacquiao) is an 'all time great'..which i think he truly is..he has re-defined himself and the sport as well..

MANNY PACQUIAO is what he is and history is just being made round for round, opponent for opponent, country by country and and race by race. . . . . next are the cynics and the critics to bow down before the greatest fighter that ever lived MANNY PACQUIAO. He wont lay claim for what he is not but is always going to prove everything in the small square ring as humbly as ever and for god and country. He is God given and proudly Pilipino tell that to everyone who hasnt seen him fight. . .. . . . . . .
for me, Manny Pacquiao is the greatest fighter of today's era... he is no. 1
Manny Pacquiao is an extraordinary fighter who has an unrelenting will to beat his opponents with his blazing speed and tsunami waves of punches, which very few fighters can with stand or defend against. I likened him to a living tsunami boxing in the ring. He is not as flamboyant as Shane Mosely, Floyd Maywheather jr., or Roy Jones; he is just a great fighter. If he is to turn heads, and cause people to be in awe of his boxing ability, he needs to be come more showy, colorful, flashy, glitzy, and explosively vociferous before the media and fighting with the rage of a man eating tiger when ever he gets in the ring to fight an adversary. He has an outstanding fight record that’s extremely impressive, which will surely garner him a place in boxing history, but what he has yet to develop is a style of boxing that present day fighters want to emulate and copy like so many thousands of boxers did Muhammad Ali. I believe with time and more championship wins under his belt, he will become the newest and most feared boxer of all time. Manny Pacquiao is plausibly the best “pound for pound” boxer in the world today!
youre the best boxer
Manny has become the most exciting fighter in boxing. Now he has to complete his task, Defeat Mayweather & Mosley, then he will be considered as the greatest fighter of his era, and pound for pound the greatest fighter of all time. Go Manny! You truly are a Great fighter, you inspire all of your Countrymen & Women. No one in the history of sports has so inspired the Citizens of his homeland. Our World needs more Humble heros like You...God Bless You Manny!
We just witnessed a truly great artist finished his masterpiece,Manny is for the moment an omnipotent fighter,Hatton is a distant second at this weight class. As far Manny's place in history only time will tell but it is hard to argue that he is at his prime,I dont care what others think of Mayweather's abilities if he faces Manny now he will be another finished product on the canvas.Manny you are a Michaelangelo,Congratulations and more power! Stay humble and keep your faith. You are what the sport of boxing really need ..
A great Champion!!!!
Unbelievable result!, I believe He has anything to stop Hatton, but in 2 rounds?
He is the great boxer, lets hope mayweather Jr have a gut to face him. If He won the fight we can consider him as the best pound for pound fighter.
MANNY PACQUIAO ..Where does he rank in history? He ranks number 1 not only in history but in the hearts of all Filipinos, for he represents not only a champion but as well as the truest characters of a Filipino...humility, dedication, commitment and most of all faith in God. Manny you are an inspiration worthy of emulation! We are so proud of you!
the victory of manny pacquiao over ricky hatton is the manifestation of his greatness in the ring

1. Pacquiao is the first to win four lineal titles in history worldwide
2. Pacquiao is the first to win in four consecutive fights in as many weight divisions in history worldwide
These two achievements already make Pacquiao part of history.
Simply an amazing boxer with extra-ordinary caliber that can devastate any opponent! Simply great!
Manny Pacquiao respects everybody inside and outside the ring. He's humble before, during and after his boxing match up whom he keeps saying that he's doing only his job inside the ring. He gives entertainment and exciting fight to people .He committed to do his job as a boxer. He never say that he's the P4P king from his mouth but he truly shows it in the ring. I would say, he deserves to be the all the time greatest fighter in the history of boxing. He's(Pacquiao) He's not a mouthful like Mayweather jr and sr. but he shows it in the
ring. That;s why he deserves to be a Legend like ALi, Sugar Ray and Dela joya.

Yes,indeed Manny will become a part of our history . The best boxer ever born into this World . Mabuhay ka Manny!!!
How funny it is? When people achieved something great, some people keeps u pulling down.
For all the Hatton and May Weather lovers out there!!! Please give Manny the credit he deserves. Manny is humble, a clean fighter and the greatest fighter out there. As to May Weather Jr and SR.. its shows both them are all talk but no show.
There is no boxer in his class or perhaps in his generation that would replace his achievements in his 20 years of boxing career. I could say that he could be ranked together with Ali and Sugar Ray because he has this charm in public. Not all great athletes can influence others as Manny Pacquiao does. He can be considered as one of the greatest athletes, not only in boxing but in all of sports. godbless.
He is lord of the ring.
Nothing could compare to the amazing records set by Pacman. He is literally the Pacman who eats everything on its path. GO AHEAD... give some of those fighters to have the chance to kiss Pacman's glove before they go on retirement. WARNING: Pacquiao speaks less, but punches more. So stop talking... go and kiss the canvass.
Manny made us all Filipinos proud
Chito
Manny considered to be all time great the way he beat one of the best fighter in the world. We can see how he improved and developed his skill, speed & power. He's a silent assassin. He's a true champion!!
He's one of the most exciting fighters in memory, and his importance in his home country may rank with Ali's influence in the US. However only time will tell where Manny will rank as a fighter. Ali was unbeatable from the start, and his career was cut short. Manny gets better every time he steps into the ring, and he has just reached his prime. He's definitely one for the ages...

Are you ignorant Musonda? we all know Hatton was a paper champion but do you not
remember that Pacquiao not only beat three Hall of Fame boxers in Barrera, Morales,
and Marquez but destroyed two of them twice and all of them in their prime unlike
Pretty boy whats his face? Even Marquez (who i believe will make
people realize Mayweather is a bit of a paper champ as well) is still in his prime and
still maybe the only person out there that can challenge Pacquiao. Manny is one of
the greatest of all-time, enough said

When the world consider Oscar Dela Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez,
Marco Antonio Barrera, David Diaz, Oscar Larios, Erik Morales, (and
now Ricky Hatton) as world champions and probably hall of famers,
and were all been beaten by Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao, would it be
fair to say that Pacquiao is the number 1 in his weight class, should
be rank up there Muhammad Ali, and all-time great in his generation?
"Give credit where credit is due!". Peace.
Is Manny the greatest? He's almost there. For now i think he is the most complete fighter. Manny is very very fast. He can knock with both right and left hand. He is very mature inside the ring. He is patient enough to look for oportunity, but he's like a shark once he sees blood. But most of all, Manny is a gentleman. He only let his fists talk and not his mouth, unlike the floyd mayweathers.
What is greatness? Should Manny be considered the greatest? Let's put it this way, the popularity of boxing declined because of the lack of good boxers, especially in the heavy wieght division. But Manny saves the sport by giving the fans what they really want. EXCITEMENT!
i told you once before his real name is emmanuel which transalated in the bible is God with us. if God is with who can stop him. thanks manny you make us proud!
Manny is legendary. He's arguably the best boxer ever. He's definitely the most respected ever. Ali, Tyson, Ray Robinson and the rest of them were ALL cocky (justified or not) in one way or another which made these guys hated or disrespected by a lot of people. The same does NOT apply for Manny Pacquiao. He remains incredibly humble and i can't see how ANYONE (fans, opponents) can hate or disrespect him. That in itself should put Manny atop the history books. He's basically changing the world of boxing right before our eyes.
"I was just doing my job"
"If God wants me to lose, then it's o.k. with me"
"I pray all the time that me or my opponent don't get hurt"
- Pacquiao, true hero
No doubt - Pound 4 Pound Boundless Skills Real Humble - He does that talking in the Ring Shutting Down all the Big Mouths ie Floyd Sr, Hopkins and next Floyd Jr
I think it just dumb to compare him with Ali and Robinson; his story is different and persona will outclass them all.
He is champ on 6 weight class - could be seven weight class if Dela Hoya was a champ during that time he TKOd him.
Floyd Jr is next - all big mouths have its rightful place - keep it shut!
are you kidding? of course he is one of the greatest. forgot about hatton, do you have any idea of what it takes to beat marquez, morales and barerra? are you crazy? forget about de la hoya. these fighters are some of the best in history and he wiped them out. he is maybe the greatest most dominant fighter ever - the other other one i can think of is aaron pryor
Pacquiao is just so much fun to watch. I think eventhough it went only 2 rounds, people got their money's worth. That's pure asswoopin display right there. He's just really good on what he does.
Pacquiao is a great, great fighter - at lightweight (135 lbs), basically, and now edging toward welterweight. However, my preference goes to undisputed champions in the traditional heavier weight classes (i.e. Archie Moore), or simultaneous undisputed champions across lighter weight classes (i.e. Henry Armstrong).
To be the undisputed heavyweight champion for several years might mean "only" one title, but the profusion of sanctioning bodies and intermediate weight classes now means that smaller fighters take their skills and grow into a succession of titles.
I have a hard time getting excited about a "WBC Super Featherweight" championship - it's neither unified nor a traditional weight class - making it of limited value when making historical comparisions.
But lest any fans be offended, I reiterate that I think Pacquiao is a great, great fighter.
Mayweather better win that fight with Marquez. Pacquiao/Mayweather needs to happen.
I use to watch Manny Pacquiao fights with my late grandpa every Sunday in our local channel when Manny was still a kid in the ring. He said, this guys will be a force to reckon with, given a chance. Little that I know, a prophet have spoken....
Moreover, everytime Pacquiao fights, I sense my beloved granpa is around too to watch with the family. I just believe he is a miracle giver, big or small, to all of us. I always thought, he's Rocky Balboa personified. Win or lose, he touches everyone's heart in the end. We need more people like Manny in this wild world we have right now. God fearing and very humble. He is a boxing superhero and almost a saint for me. O:)
Accomplishments aside, he's the greatest fighter who ever lived already in my book. God bless everyone! Give peace a chance.
Manny Pacquiao is the best that boxing can offer right now. Only if he can speak english better, start showing off and show some arrogance then he will be recognize by many as being in the same category of Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson (you have to sell yourself to be recognize nowadays). But he is too humble to do that. So he let his boxing prowess and his dedication do the talking for him. Only if everybody is paying attention that he is getting better while being the best already every time he steps inside the ring. Does anyone pay attention to his power, speed and tenacity? Not to mention the intangibles. There's no comparison.
To those who keep comparing Manny to boxers such as M.Ali..etc.....
pleaseeeeeeeee, dont.as you can see Manny is a light weight not
a heavy weight boxer!duuhhh!!! get it?and most of all Manny
has a totaly defferent attitude compare to those other boxers.
Manny is incoparable when it comes to attitude, perriod. Now,
about where he is in rank, well your stupid if you dont know that
he is the #1 boxer now and tommorow......AMEN.
Ricky Hatton is a very good fighter but not the great one..whats make manny so great is because he came from light flyweight and he is still a natural featherweight and beating a guy bigger and stronger than him is something austonishing..
You know guys...
Manny is not only a boxer..He's a singer and t.v actor.
and also a peace maker. everytime when he has a fight, there is no crime has been reported all over the country.
Manny is GREATEST FIGHTER EVER! A pound for pound king, but
HE NEVER TELL TO PEOPLE THAT HE IS THE GREAT... HOW HUMBLE MANNY IS. That's why people loves manny so much.A God fear and a Helping Hand to poor people... Manny your the MAN !!! MABUHAY KA...
In my book Manny ranks amongst the top 5 if not the top 10 boxers/fighters of all time. The evidence/facts proves it. This is indisputable.
hmmmm well he is one fo the greatest fighters of his generation
If he beats mayweather and then marquez i'll have to strongly agree that he is up the with the all time greatest
I have read a lot of stories about the lives of our great boxers in history and even watched their videos. I am aware of their accomplishments in the ring, whom they have fought and how many years they have reigned in the ring. Each one of them had their own qualities that made them great. They've been considered great not only because of their fight records but because people adored, believed, remembered and followed them. Manny Pacquaio has all the qualities that are undeniably so special that have made some people envious in what he have already achieved. He deserves to be rank as one of the all time boxing greats in the history of boxing. He is a living legend and true champion of the millenium. Mabuhay ka Manny!
why you people cannot accept the fact manny is the champion and still he will beat more boxers out there specially those big mouths out their because they don't know how to pray inside the ring. All they know is to box and brag what if they bet manny maybe their tongue and their eyes will come out because of their pride look at manny he just simply raise his hand to the crowd and smile cmon people if your're not like that like manny did then you must have a big head.Remember pride first before DISTRUCTION.

A few years ago, when a young boxer hailing from the slumps in
General Santos City, Philippines beat a glorified fighter in Marco Antonio Barerra, everyone said it was a fluke. A couple of months later he faced Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez, he lost to Morales, had a draw with Marquez, yet in the rematches that they had, he Knocked Morales out and defeated Juan Manuel Marquez.
Soon, after the split decision win over Marquez, the young man faced David Diaz, the reigning Lightweight Champion of the world at that time. Diaz stood no chance, he lost via a TKO in the 7th round.
Then came the BIGGEST fight in the young boxer's career. He was in a position to retire a legendary fighter in Oscar De la Hoya. Despite all the odds against him, he grabbed the spot in history when he won by a TKO.
On the 2nd of May, 2009 at the MGM grand hotel and casino in Las Vegas, NV. "The Battle between EAST and WEST" took place. Having the Filipino boxer defeating the current Jr. Welterweight champion Ricky Hatton with ten seconds left in the second round.
Now, of all the fighters he has faced in his great career, who dares to say that EMMANUEL "MANNY" PACQUIAO, is not one of, if not the GREATEST figher of all time?
Floyd Mayweather May be the closest thing to beating The Pac Man, but that is yet to be seen. As of now, Manny is better than Floyd, I dont think Floyd can last 12 rounds against Manny at the moment.
Hatton is a one dimensiona straight ahead fighter who was no match for a boxer like Manny who has all the skills and power to boot. But Mayweather is a very polished boxer, fast, elusive, and very hard to hit. I'd love to see them fight, but I don't think Pacman or anybody is fast enough to catch May. My guess, a great fight that will go the distance.
dfa
haha greatest of all time what a joke. First of all how can he be consired p4p king when he barely won against marquez. Many people, among boxing expert said Marquez won both fights. Yes manny knocked marquez down but did you notice how marquez got up right away (first fight), later in the round marquez came back and probably only lost that first round with the 3 knock downs. second fight it was clear that marquez won the fight and was robbed. Then all of a sudden he is p4g king what a joke. Then he faced diaz, who everyone knew would loose cuz of his style and it took manny 9 round to do that haha, if it was another great fighter i would of been done earlier in the round. Then he faced de la hoya, i dont know why people even said le la hoya stood a chance. he was a washed up fighter that shouldn't of taken the fight but we all know why he did it ( money ). so yes manny beat a great fighter in de la hoya but at an age that anyone can beat him. if he fought de la hoya in his prime, manny would have been the one layin down in the canvas. Then he fought hatton, again a good fighter but only on paper. yes he was undefeated until he got exposed by mayweather. Hatton never really fought anyone good and doesnt have any defence so of course when he fights a great fighter like mayweather, he gets knocked out. same with manny, he had no defence n lost. until he beats marquez which he avoided a rematch with and probably will until marquez is washed up. i dont consider him an all time great. you can say all you want about 5 diff division but in all those fights he fought fighters past their prime so all time my a** haha
Funny, because before Manny fought all those boxers he beat, all that the press and the experts were saying was that manny was a newbie who needed to prove himself in fighting those boxing greats. i wonder how many times will manny fight as himself -- in his prime every fight -- before disbelievers will begin to see that his opponents are always losing not because they were not in their prime at the time of the fight but because they were simply not disciplined and good enough like Manny was every fight.
if he will win spectacularly in his last matches against mayweather jr. and cotto theres no doubt, he can be ranked among the greatest in history side by side with muhammad ali , henry armstrong and sugar ray leonard. or maybe even better than those mentioned, it will be depending in his performance. HOPE he can win both of it!
All you Filipinos need to get a grip! Most of of you write about Pacquaio as if he's the best boxer ever... I'm sorry but you've got to be a bit more objective and less caught up in your own national pride.
Manny is without-a-doubt an all-time great, a truly humble fighter who doesn't trash talk but to say he is the greatest EVER is just way over-the-top. You're just saying that because he's from your country.
You can only say whether someone was the best boxer ever when their career has ended... let's wait and see.
whatever they will say against manny but for us filipinos, his our number one!
If Manny was an American or a westerner the question of whether he should be considered an all-time great would have long been settled.
"Old", "Drained", No longer in his prime", "Not really great", Washed out", "Shot". Suddenly those he utterly demolished were not so great. It's a pathetic conspiracy.
"It's a different era", "It's not 1954", "Can't compare with guys who have 200 to 300 fights". Let Congress shut down the sport of Boxing then! Where's my time machine!?
Just accept it! A great BIG small man from the far corners of Asia has entered the ring!
An all-time great is good enough for me.
To the Filipino pacman fans, Manny is not a God...Some praises are exaggerated...
To the non-believers of Pacman, you guys don't know anything about boxing...
Pacman is an all-time great...he did a lot of firsts...his accomplishments are real...
i think he is around the 40-50 best in history.
