Report: Manny Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto to fight in November
It's the fight Bob Arum wanted, and now it looks like he'll get it. Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao are reportedly going to fight on Nov. 14. Arum said in an interview with Mike Marley that was, in part, published in the Philippine Star. Arum said that Pac Man gave the bout the greenlight. Here is part of the article that appeared on the Philippine Star's web site.
"MANILA, Philippines -- Impressed by the tremendous amount of fan support Miguel Cotto generated in his welterweight fight yesterday, Manny Pacquiao has given promoter Bob Arum the go signal to arrange a fight between the two stars.
Speaking to Michael Marley of The Examiner, Arum -- who promotes both Pacquiao and Cotto -- said he already has penciled November 14 as the targeted date for the Pacquiao-Cotto showdown.
Pacquiao sat ringside with Arum as Cotto carved out a hard-fought split decision win over the tough Joshua Clottey ..."Manny told me what to do. Manny told me 'Go ahead, make that fight.' So it will go Nov. 14 at the MGM Grand here in (Las) Vegas," Arum told Marley. "He (Pacquiao) was impressed by Cotto's fan support and told me it reminded him of how the British fans stand with Ricky Hatton.
Arum, meanwhile, assured that Cotto is enthusiastic with the prospect of a Pacquiao bout.

I can't believe this. Mannys just taking the easier fight. Y doesn't he want to fight Sugar Shane? Either way Pacquiaos going to lose. But he shouldve fought Mosley.
Alright Adolfo, first of all, this isn't an easy fight for Pacman. Remember the fight between Miguel Cotto and Sugar Shane Mosley? Guess who won by unanimous decision. Miguel Cotto (although in some aspect, Sugar Shane Mosley seemed to be dominating in many of the rounds, but the judges prevailed). Now I'm not saying Sugar Shane Mosley (for this part) and Miguel Cotto aren't great fighters (you already know they're really good), but you're underestimating Miguel Cotto as an easy fight. I love Pacman as he's my hero since I'm Filipino, but this is going to be a difficult fight for Pacman because Miguel Cotto possesses great boxing attributes such as fine footwork, head movement, and devastating punches. This is without a doubt a hard fight for "both" fighters. And I also would like to point out that the age difference for Mosley between the Miguel and Manny are pretty high since he's 37. So that means, age can also play a strong factor in this outplay of championship supremacy and pound for pound holders. Don't underestimate these fighters... just giving you a heads up :) No hard feelings hehe :D
Well u make good points animeflip u forget a key aspect in Sugar Shanes all NEW boxing style. Shanes new trainer made a hell of a difference as we saw against Margarito as apposed to his old style taught by his amateur trainer (shanes father). Now I'm not saying its going to be an easy fight because contrary to wut these other guys are saying it will go well into the later rounds. I'm just saying in fighting Cotto he's taking the easy right by not fighting Mosley. Not taking anything away from Manny though he's a great fighter...

I like Cotto and Pacman, but I think Manny would be too much for Miguel. Cotto hasn't looked the same since last summer's loss, and it's obvious that Pacquiao okayed the fight after seeing what Cotto did and didn't do against Clottey. Of all the possible fights listed for Pacquiao, I think this would be the least competitive; Cotto just doesn't look good to me. I hope I'm wrong. Either way, I'd much rather see Manny and Floyd.

first of all i have nothing but respect for manny and what he's accomplished so far but what you guys are failing to realize is two things:
1.We all know that Cotto has been hurt but he has showed a champions heart by coming back and winning what happens if and when manny gets hurt cause if and when cotto hurts him he's finished he's going in there against a great finisher.2.Yeah they'll probably meet at a catch weight 145 perhaps but unlike delahoya Cotto's sure to come in about 10 to 15 pounds heavier that's a big difference Manny has never been hit by someone that bigStill i believe it will be a great fight i pick Cotto in the 7th or 8th round.

Manny is quick, fast and all that , however I don't think he's faced anyone with as good a defense as Cotto. Cotto almost always keeps his chin down, unlike the majority of Manny's previous opponents, as well as Manny himself.I believe Manny will leave his head up one too many times.

cotto will wear manny down he is too big and strong for pac man.He has never been in there with a fighter as big and strong as him cotto unlike delahoya and hatton can adapt to whatever pac's going to present to him i see pac getting hurt bad. I have to say this should be a great fight.... a proper fight with 2 great champions i just feel cotto has been in with best in almost every fight and at their prime... no has beens.... he is also deseptively fast... and somehow finds a way to win. mannys legacy is somewhat due to last 2 fights... can these really be counted, a completely finished del a hoya and a completely out of his league hatton. dont get me wrong, this will be a classic fight, a true fight to remember... with 2 warriors, but for me manny is slightly overhyped and cotto wont be phased in the slightest having fought tougher opposition regularly. cotto wins
