Newsday.com posts a guide to the Long Island Marathon
Some good stuff on our site, including a story advancing the weekend races (there's a 5k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon), tips for your pre-marathon routine, photos from last year's race and there's a map of the course found here.
As loyal FS readers already know, I won't be running in the half marathon even though I registered for it. A left foot injury forced me out. I haven't felt any discomfort since last Sunday, and I've flirted with the idea of running the race even though I haven't hit the streets in two weeks ... but I've since thought better of it. I'm bummed, but on the bright side at least I scored a shot of steroids and lidocaine out of it. But no HGH.
Anyway, I go back to the foot specialist next week to get cleared to run again.
If you're running this weekend's race, good luck!

So, Jim, let me get this straight. You're not running in the LI Half-Marathon because you're afraid that you'll test positive for steroids.
Are you afraid that you will re-injure it and not be ready for the olympics?
I have a torn mensicus (sp) in my right knee and I'm still doing the half. (I did the half last year too, really wanted to do the full one this year, but thought better of it.)
As punishment for "wussing out" Jim, you should run the course at Sunden Meadow this weekend 6 times. That or have to run from the 2nd bridge on the Wantaugh to the 3rd bridge with your shorts on your head. It's only fair.
Good call on the steroids, Chicago Norm.
As for why I'm not running, basically the doctor told me not to until he's sure it's not a stress fracture. I can't imagine it is, because the pain has gone away. But I haven't seen him since the x-rays.
I am still tempted to run it. But my main goal is the NYC Marathon. I've already signed up. So I don't want to mess anything up that will ruin that.
But, yes, I am still tempted. Maybe I'll just wake up and do it.
