Dwyane Wade's Commercial Week
Heat guard Dwyane Wade spent Monday on the basketball court at LaSalle High School, where the Heat used to practice before AmericanAirlines Arena opened. But Wade wasn’t practicing – he was starring in his new Converse commercial directed by star film and movie director Spike Lee.
From behind the camera, Lee asks Wade questions about his life on and off the basketball court in what’s being described as something of a fireside chat.
“My whole concept this year is going with the real me,” Wade said. “It’s about letting people get to know who Dwyane Wade is. So he’s asking me personal questions that maybe my fans won’t know about basketball, off the court.”
Wade is featured wearing his new shoe, the Wade 1.3, which goes on sale Nov. 3, and clothing from his Converse apparel line, which will debut in March.
“We’re getting Dwyane here in his element on the basketball court, just simply addressing the camera, which is the fans, audience and hopefully people who are going to buy the sneaker,” Lee said in an interview released by Converse.
Look for the ad to begin airing Oct. 26.
Meanwhile, Wade, whose Lincoln Navigator ad is already airing and who shot a spot for T-Mobile with Charles Barkley in Los Angeles last week, isn’t done with commercials.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, he’s shooting a humorous spot for Gatorade along with Heat teammate Udonis Haslem and Los Angeles Clippers center Paul Davis and guard Shaun Livingston. The ad is to debut in February.
