Beckham v. Bush = Futbol v. Football
Adidas is helping to welcome David Beckham to the U.S. for his MLS debut with the LA Galaxy next month by having him team up with New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush.

The two meet on a field to share each other’s sports in the sportswear company’s "Futbol v. Football" campaign. In keeping with the “Impossible is Nothing” brand message, the campaign has the two stars meeting in Madrid, wearing the other’s sports gear and trying out the other’s sports moves. Beckham attempted a field goal with Bush serving as placeholder and Bush worked on free kicks.
According to a press release, Bush promised to attend Beckham's Galaxy debut and Beckham promised to attend some NFL games.
You can watch the video here. Footage of the meeting also will be available this week for viewing at www.futbolmeetsfootball.com.

Well, try convincing Fabio Capello Beckham's over the hill. He had his best season in years at Real after all, and seems to have reminded the England team that they should be playing football in stead of selling tabloids.
But more importantly, seeing Beckham taken out by Reggie Bush is pretty satisfying. Is that a horsecollar tackle?

We all know the Galaxy got Beckham for publicity, not because he's still a dominant player.
Yes, Euro soccer is superior, but that doesn't mean there's not a place for the MLS here. The success of MLS depends on a lot more than just if die-hard soccer fanatics embrace it. The event appealing to families, kids, youth participation, etc, etc all factor in.
Hockey, while it is not nearly as strong as it once was, hasn't failed, and the MLS is catching up fast. I may be wrong, but I believe in some markets, MLS games have garnered better ratings than NHL playoff games.
It is tough to sell to advertisers (who also play a role in its succes) since there are no commercial breaks, but that just means more innovation is needed. I'm not saying the MLS will ever be as big as the NFL or even NBA, but I do think it's arrived and here to stay.

Beckam's best days are long gone. The experiment here is nothing new it was done long ago with Pele, Cruyff, Müller, Cubillas, Cabañas, and many more of the defunct soccers leagues in the USA. This Beckam situation is just a Hollywood stunt by Adidas to sell more Soccer apparel and NO the Galaxy is not giving Beckam all that money or they would have gone ape over him going back to play in the English team. It is Adidas who is footing most of the bill, whatever it turns out to be.
Frankly, for those of us that watch the European leagues in between American sports and know what goes on over there, we know Beckam as a failed English team captain where they had no glories in spite of many predictions to the contrary. Beckam now and most of his time is a one trick pony of sorts in that he bends the ball and places it well in SET plays, that is, when the ball is dead after a foul or during a corner kick. He does nothing much other than that.
There are dozens and dozens of much greater players in Europe's leagues coming from a variety of countries, many of them Africans. With his best years gone by, Beckam's popularity is as much due now to the fact that he is married to one of the former Spice Girls and to a well oiled public relations machine. So if that is what you are looking for, head for the Galaxy and Beckam but if it is good soccer of the best World Class quality, tune in to the European leagues, particularly the Spanish and the English Premier and then you can see soccer as it is supposed to be played and rioted to.
In any case, in this country, where even a violent and pugilistic sport like Hockey has failed, there is no room for soccer played at a minor league level and with rules that frankly have not change in a 100 or more years where the defense has all the command and where 1-1 and 0-0 games are satisfactory (until they riot violently) to the rest of the world. Not here. We do not want it here. Don't give us that frustrating event, here we need closure to each and every game and a 1-1 tie played with minor leaguers just will not do.

Never could understand why soccer doesn't work here in South Florida.
Were going to miss out on some fun times with Becks running around the MLS! Imagine him running around South Beach if we had a MLS franchise down here!
