New name for home of Dolphins and UM: LandShark Stadium?
The ink might not be dry on the deal, but a source says Dolphin Stadium could soon be renamed LandShark Stadium.
That’s LandShark as in LandShark Lager. It’s likely a short-term branding opportunity, perhaps for one season, but the arrangement would fit with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross’ plan to make the venue an entertaining tropical South Florida experience. LandShark is served at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurants.
Buffett has been chatting with Ross about a business opportunity. But he wasn’t revealing anything about a business deal when I asked him about it at Monday’s Heat-Atlanta Hawks playoff game.
“You’re going to find out real soon,” Buffett said with a smile. “Real soon. It’s going to be great.”
A press conference to announce the deal could be held next week.

The new owner is a disgrace. I don't care how much he paid for the team!
Selling the team piece by piece to stars that more then likely knows nothing about football.
They should rename the team to Hollywood Dolphins and the name is Hollywood Stadium where normal people need not come.
They should sell the team to the real fans like in Green Bay,

The only thing the constant changing of the name does is just lose any deep rooted ties to history. When you say Fenway Park, it has meaning. Doesn't matter if the team sucked the last 10 years or not. When you say the Orange Bowl, it has meaning, even if the Dolphins aren't playing there anymore. Now you have this stadium that keeps changing it's name. It's a joke. It's about money. And if you want to give the team a face lift as a new owner, change the uniform, not the name of the stadium.

WHEN I FIRST SAW THIS DEAL COME OVER THE AIRWAYS, I THOUGHT TO MY SELF, JIMMY KEEPS GOING COPORATE AND ALL I COULD THINK OF HIS OVERKILL SONG! JIMMY SEEMS TO BE LIVING THE OVERKILL LIFE NOW! IT'S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT MONEY, HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO SPEND! JUST A WORD OF WISDOM TO A GUY WHO DEPENDS ON US FOR HIS GOODLIFE!
Posted by: Tmunz | May 13, 2009 5:17 PM
$20 to park and you're complaining?!
Come to Foxboro where it's $40 or $50. Then again, that's to see a good team.
Who knows? In 2004, Buffett played Fenway the Sox won it all. Maybe the Fish will have the success that they never had at Joe Robbie Stadium!

Dam john i didnt know you've drank gator piss...and also for the sake of integrity can everyone plz calm down wit the rechanging of dolphin stadium to Joe Robbie Stadium...leave stephen ross alone, if u were in his shoes u would do the same thing to make a profit expecially after he got ripped off paying 1.1 billion dollars for a team that went 1-15 the season he bought it...u cant hate on a guy who is trying his best to make the fan experience memorable, especially for kids...keep up the good work ross and GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Actually,I'm NOT happy about it @all!!
Posted by: 13kvFINS | May 2, 2009 2:08 AM
Well as long as it's named after a beer for ONLY one yr,and goes back to something DOLPHIN related..
Ross should get that fountain of three froloking porpoises from the streets of Long Beach for the front gates,or mezanine!!
Gave me chills during every lap of the IRL race @LongBeach,Ca.. GOFINS!!
Posted by: 13kvFINS | May 2, 2009 2:06 AM
I'm tired of all of the name changes for the stadium. Call it whatever you want for the sake of greed, However, all South Floridians, and people from afar will ALWAYS call it by the name of the man who worked so hard to have it freak-en built in the first place. That being Joe Robbie, It Will Always Be Joe Robbie Stadium. Not Land Fill, Or Land Shark, Joe Robbie Stadium, Get It, Got It, Good, Now go count your Jimmy Buffet Dollars. By the way, That beer really lacks in flavor and is overpriced for the gator piss that is in it.

If the current owner wants to pick up a few bucks take a lead from college stadiums - LandShark Field at Joe Robbie Stadium.

It can't be called Joe Robbie Stadium because JR doesn't own it anymore. But, how about Joe Robbie Stadium II? Better yet, Joe Robbie Stadium Jr.

It was JRS when it opened, he did it the right way, never asked the city/county to fund him. So it will always be JOE ROBBIE stadium.
Posted by: John | May 1, 2009 2:22 PM
new name...
The Ted Ginn Family Stadium....
laughing my a$$ off!
Posted by: what! | May 1, 2009 2:13 PM
don't care what it is called. Hell, it was pro-player and not a single person I knew had any idea what pro-player was and then pro-player went out of business and the name stayed due to the contract that was already paid for. People don't care what the stadiums are called. I'm not going to buy Landshark beer because the name is on the stadium. Now, if they do something about the $20 to park, I'll call it Landshark stadium all day long!!!
Posted by: gh | May 1, 2009 2:08 PM
How about Loan Shark Stadium. You will need one to afford parking, tickets, food and souvenirs.

Posted by: who cares | May 1, 2009 1:42 PM
LandShark tastes like crap. Jimmy doesnt play here because he charges a huge lump sum, plus 100% of ticket sales. The stadium only makes money off of parking and concession sales. He could care less about his fans.
Posted by: Tommy | May 1, 2009 1:34 PM
How about "Cameron Wake is a beast Stadium"...
Posted by: marc higgs | May 1, 2009 1:34 PM
Why dont they just call it New York Jets Stadium - half the fans are from New York and the Jets have won 8 of the past 11 games played there anyways
Posted by: dicky | May 1, 2009 1:17 PM
