Finale With The Reds Today
It's still early, but after 20 games for the Cubs, we don't know how good they can be. The starting pitching has been the strength of the team which we anticipated back in spring training. Offensively, the Cubs seem to be able to score runs, but we still don't know just how good the offense can be. We do know that there are some problems in the bullpen right now, some of them because of the number of innings they've had to throw, some of it because of ineffectiveness and some of it because of injury. I think if there's one thing to be sure of is that we are unsure of the bullpen.
I think more than anything else right now, the manager's job is to maintain a positive attitude. Whether he feels that way inwardly, he has to project it outwardly so that his ballclub knows that he still has confidence in their ability to win games.
Len and I are singing today - my strategy is to hold the microphone farther away from my mouth and make sure Len has HIS mike very close to his mouth.
