Minor League Report for 7/6 Games
We've had both e-mail and blog inquiries about the Cubs farm system, so here is a brief update from the Cubs minor league affiliates yesterday:
*AAA Iowa lost to Round Rock 5-0. Todd Wellemeyer started for the Iowa Cubs going 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits. Second baseman Richard Lewis went 2-4.
*AA West Tennessee lost to Tennessee 4-2. Lefthander Renyel Pinto started and went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. Diamond Jaxx right-hander Thomas Atlee dropped his first game of the season, iving up 1 run in 1.0 inning of relief. CF Dwaine Bacon went 2-for-5 with a double, 2 stolen bases and a pair of runs scored. Seven players from the Diamond Jaxx were named to the Northern Division All-Star team for the Southern League: SS Buck Coats, 3B Casey McGehee, outfielders Matt Murton and Felix Pie, and right-handed pitchers Talley Haines, Ricky Nolasco and Andy Shipman.
*In A ball, Daytona Cubs dropped the first game of a four-game set, 6-2 to Lakeland. Third baseman Scott Moore his 16th HR of the season.
*The A Peoria Chiefs lost to Kane County 3-2 in 10 innings. Chiefs left-hander Tim Layden suffered his second loss of the season, giving up 1 unearned run in 2.0 innings of relief. LF Luis Montanez went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homer, his 12th.
*The A Boise Hawks lost their 5th straight game, dropping a 16-9 decision to Everett. 3B Jose Rios was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. RF Jeff Culpepper and 3B Brandon Taylor each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
