Minor League Report For 4/29 Games

IOWA CUBS (AAA-Pacific Coast League 10-13)
*The Cubs lost their third straight game to the Redbirds, despite a 5-for-5 effort from catcher Geovany Soto.
*Les Walrond took the loss allowing 11 hits and 8 runs (5 earned) in 5.1 innings.
*RHP Ben Howard and LHP Clay Rapada combined for 2.2 innings of no-hit baseball, walking one and striking out one.
*LF Chris Walker was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
*1B Micah Hoffpauir collected his 25th RBI of the season, going 1-for-4. He is tied for third on the Pacific Coast League RBI leader board.

TENNESSEE SMOKIES (AA-Southern League 9-10)
*The Smokies beat the Mudcats, 5-4, on a ninth inning 2B Jemel Spearman squeeze play.
*LHP Donnie Veal put together a strong outing, working 6.0 innings, striking out nine while giving up three runs on three hits. He did not earn a decision despite leaving the game with a two-run lead.
*RF Josh Kroeger went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double … his .392 (29-for-74) batting average stands atop the Southern League while his 29 hits are third-most and his .554 slugging percentage ranks fourth.
*SS Gary Cates went 2-for-3 with a two-out RBI.
*RHP Jim Henderson picked up his first win of the season, working a perfect ninth inning.

DAYTONA CUBS (A-Florida State League 10-10)
*Daytona fell to Palm Beach, 5-3.
*Jeff Samardzija gave up a season high 10 hits, working 5.1 innings, but still only gave up two earned runs.
*CF Tyler Colvin went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
*LF Jesus Valdez was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored . Hs 17 RBI on the season are fifth-best in the Florida State League.

PEORIA CHIEFS (A-Midwest League 12-8)
*Peoria beat West Michigan, 4-0, in the final game of a four-game set in which the Chiefs took three of four.
*Because of a shortage of starters, Peoria turned to its bullpen, as RHP Marco Carrillo made a start for the first time this season and worked 3.0 scoreless innings.
*RHP Charles Platt earned the win, working 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out three.
*1B Russ Canzler was 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored … it was his first home run of the season.
*In his second game with Peoria, RF James Adduci went 2-for-3 with one run scored.

BOISE HAWKS (A-Northwest League 0-0)
*The Hawks season begins June 19.

MESA CUBS (Rookie-Arizona League 0-0)
*The Cubs season begins June 22.
