Head Games

No word yet on Derrek Lee and a possible suspension so he is in the lineup today. We showed on the Leadoff Man today the incident 20 years ago where Eric Show hit Andre Dawson in the cheek and a brawl ensued.
The one common denominator there was the location of the pitch in question. Any major leaguer worth his salt doesn't mind getting plunked in the backside in those situations. It's the high pitch near your head that brings out the emotions. Once that ball strays above the waist, guys talk about "you're endangering my livelihood" and you see very emotional and understandable reactions.

Derrek Lee is on my fantasy baseball team, I hope he doesn't get suspended too long! At least he can appeal the suspension and still play before Major League Baseball can lay down the law!

It seems to me that when cubs players are hit, it is never intentional, even when their announcers talk about payback, in the case of soriano being hit by hudson. It takes the enjoyment out of the game, if it seems like there is no fairness in the empires.

Could you please say hello to my 95 year old grandma, Mildred Zemlik, who is watching the game in tinley park. She also thinks " all those big guys fighting is just plain silly. Thanks.

My wife suggests that when a game is being played after a warning is given there should be a symbol onscreen indicating that this game is being played under an umpires' warning. Much like a severe weather warning. Her suggestion for the symbol would be a skull and crossbones with the crossbones being baseball bats.

Soriano tried to stretch obvious single into double with Cubs leading 8-1 in 9th inning of his 3-HR game. That's considered "piling on", same as a SB attempt.
Len, your comments since then indicate you don't understand that this led to Hudson's knockdown pitch as much as Soriano's HR's. Bob, I'm more surprised you didn't get this.

I would love to see the video of this fight again. I remember watching it live 20 years ago. It's not on youtube!

That 1987 fight was classic. Here's a pretty good recap of that game and brawl:
