Is No News Good News?

No trades today by Jim Hendry as the Cubs decided, in the end, to
stick with what they have for the time being. I want to reiterate
that Jim can still make deals into August, but the players involved
would have to pass through waivers. Sounds like Jim might have had a
deal to help the bench in the works, but in the end, he decided to
stand pat. The Cubs are in a good spot in that they are not in
desperate need of pitching. Teams that are tend to overspend to get
it. With Kerry Wood due back as early as Thursday, he in essence
becomes an early August acquisition.

So, let's see how the rest of the week plays out against the top two
teams in the NL East and rest assured, if there's a deal to be made,
Jim Hendry will make it. He's not going to shy away from pulling off
a deal if he thinks this club needs it.

IF... JONES and FLOYD start hitting for POWER, and with a little more consistency.. WE CAN WHIP ANYONE IN THE NL. We have KNOWN this for FOUR months. So BIG JIM NOT adding anyone today doesn't bother me,
IF CLIFFY AND J.J. start thumping a little more.

I really would have LOVED to see Griffey come over... The difference between him and Cliff would have made a huge difference.

Also, who will be sent down with Wood coming up? Murton or Cherry I assume. Or will they move Guzman to the 60-day DL?

On the Jacque Jones play where he was out at the plate vs. the Reds, a couple of things were not brought up. 1, the on-deck hitter should have been behind the play coaching Jones as to whether or not he needed to slide, and 2, Jones needed to slide LOWER. If he does, he scores, because the throw was high, and admirable as it was for Jacque to try and bowl over the catcher, it was not the way to go, and again the next batter could have signaled this for Jacque with his hands down.

Ive Watch the Cubs For years I love The Cubs I think the Cubs will win This year Please keep me in Your thougts pray for my friend hes been a fan for years your frend Jason TN

I believe Jim Hendry did exactly what was needed in keeping the team the way it is. As for possibly getting Griffey, I think he would spend more time on the DL than anyone we presently have. We have a good combination of veterans and young players and a really good chance of being in first place by the end of the week. GO CUBS GO!

So let me get this straight, all of our competition got stronger, and we got weaker. We basically traded Barrett for Kendall, which made us weaker statistically, while the Braves, Brewers, Padres, Phillies, and even the Cardinals got stronger. Did the sale of the Cubs have anything to do with us not making a move? I do know thats the reason we still have Jacque Jones on our team. You would think Hendry would try and do everything he can to win this year since it will probably be his last as GM of the Cubs.

I am I wrong in saying that most fans feel that a GM that doesn't make a move before the deadline has failed his team? That's crazy! With Woody coming back by the end of the week and the team playing their best ball of the season, Hendry chose to not mess with what's working.

Getting Wood back is equivalent to a big trade -- assuming his health is not an issue. The biggest reliever/closer traded during the deadline was Gagne, and he's been shaky at best as of late.

I've always had a love for Griffey too, but don't think he's what we need right now. With Jacque finally getting out of his slump and the right field platoon that Lou has working I think we're in decent shape.

Also, great 70's music on the broadcase last night Len...loved it!

i too woulda loved to see griffey in a cubs uniform but they already spent 300 mil in the offseason i didnt really see them spending another 14 to 18 on griffey or whatever it woulda took, the bottom line is floyd and jones gotta bang some more, going into the season pinella said"this team is built to bang"well we have been winning but we aint no where close to leading the bigs in hrs,we gotta power up.

If there had been an opportunity to bring in a player to significantly improve a week spot - without crippling the future - I'm sure Hendry would have pulled the trigger. Most years at the end of July, I can scan other teams' rosters and read about trade rumors and say, "Boy, I wish the Cubs would get that guy!" about several players. Not this year.

Face it - the Cubs are already BETTER in most areas than what they could have gotten from potential trading partners.

Regarding Griffey - I'm glad Hendry didn't chase after him. First, he's one of the few players in the league who's an even bigger DL/health risk than Cliff Floyd. Second, at this stage in his career, the amount of upgrade the Cubs would receive over either Floyd or Jones would NOT justify the huge price they'd have had to pay in both talent to get him and salary to pay him.

regarding griffey and people ? his health,he is as fit as a horse and playing like one too, griffeys dream has always been to win the mvp and i guarantee you if he wouldas came to the cubs his dream woul;d came true, ive followed him alot in his career in my mind he would be the onr breaking the record not roided up bonds if it wasnt for all those injurys, but hey we gotta be happy with what we gopt, woody coming back, the team is on fire, its a lot of ufn to be a cubs fan right now, lets just get floyd like i know he can do anmd jones and start smacking some onto sheeffield or wavelanmd, keep it up cubs, terriffic job so far, sweet lou your the man!!!!!

Now Jim Hendry is the guy making all the right moves??? Give me a break!!!

How many rings do the Cubs have with Hendry as GM?... The guy should have been fired along time ago.

We don't need Griffy.....Those kind of trades never work for the Cubs.....like McGruff from Atlanta and Garciapara from Boston
