Opening Thoughts

In all the Opening Day drama and ceremonies, it's easy to forget the Brewers are the opponents today. They have come on strong and are looking to build on last year's success. The I-94 rivalry is really blooming and the Cubs will want to draw first blood in this series.
Hopefully Kerry Wood will come in and get his first major league save today. It would be really warm this place up if Woody comes in for the 9th and gets a few K's.
It's going to be another fun season and there's nothing like Opening Day.

Great ceremony, except for the presence of Jessie Jackson. Why is he there? I'm ashamed the cubs have that racist involved with a moment like that. I'm glad he was booed.
Stupid move.

Bob,
The new graphics package looks great! I was wondering if the new "look" will include the MPH number for each pitch...like in previous seasons? GO CUBBIES!

Definitely agree with you that Woody needs to get out and pitch today (unless Z keeps going, he's looking great thus far!) in order to settle into his new role. It's great to see Mr. Cub out there and I'm looking forward to the 7th Inning stretch and subsequent talk!
Go CUBS!!!

We can read the masthead (scores, outs, etc). Thanks. Keep it BIG.

Currently I am awaiting on my first son to be born any day now so I was unable to make the trip to Wrigleyville as I do every year. Listening to Len and yourself, is making this a opening day to remember. Thank you guys very much. LETS GO CUBS!!!!

Why didn't they play the March to Wrigley song today at the opener?

Bob......I hate to start the year off being picky, but you've picked up a phrase that so many others have too, and its misuse drives me bonkers. PLEASE stop saying that things are "riduculous" when you probably mean fabulous, fantastic, super or really, really great. The word ridiculous means something that deserves ridicule. I'm pretty sure Fukudome's 3-run blast today was NOT ridiculous. It was amazing, astounding, or even marvelous.
Thanks!

Bob & Len,
What are the chances Carlos Marmol will take the closer role from Kerry Wood. I saw evidence of that today in the opener. I truly beleive that Carlos should be given that role. I know its just the first game but youth is what we need in that position.

Derek Lee's bat has been quiet all spring, and now he tries to take out our #1 starter. Thankfully disaster was averted. Whew!!!
What in the world was ARam doing on that pop up, and the one Soto never got a glove on. Stationary.

Mr. Cub -- class act, through and through. Ernie, you deserve all the honors you get, and then some! And actually vatsi, Jesse Jackson is the one that spearheaded the movement to get the statue done now. He's a friend of Ernie's (which would qualify him enough to be there, in my book), but beyond that, he's the one that pushed to get it done now and has worked at this for years. I'm not a fan of his either, but he had every right to be there, and being an Ernie fan makes him okay with me!
I agree with Jonny -- the new graphics are great, but WHERE'S THE PITCH SPEED?? You've spoiled us with that in recent years, you can't take it away now. :) I'm glad I'm not the only one who was losing their mind when they couldn't see how fast Z was throwing.
The new HD didn't benefit us at all, of course, because Directv doesn't carry WGN as an "HD station" -- that's gonna irritate me beyond belief. I plan to lobby the heck outta them to pick it up, I hope you guys at GN can help us out-of-market fans with that on your end too.
All I can say is "FU-KU-DO-ME!!!!!" Wow. With his addition and Z looking fantastic, I'm feeling damn good about the season!!

Are we doing the WGN/SWA How Far Did It Fly competition in 2008? Does that apply to us Superstation Cub fans in Florida? Please let my vote count!!!
