D It Up

One of the things that has been overlooked a bit during the Cubs recent struggles has been the letdown on defense. As a manager, you hope your defense is a constant that shows up each and every game and for the stretch where the Cubs were hot, that was a key component to the wins. It hasn't been the case recently and let's hope the team returns to error-free ball tonight.

hi my name is jack and wanted to ask you a question about the cubs that i can never find out. I am wondering if the cubs or any other team has won 1-0 by there own homerun by their piture

The answer to Jack's question is yes.

Bob, it seems like the general attention of players to their craft just is not what it used to be. Considering the great money they get, why are they so seemingly complacent?

From what I've seen, most aren't complacent until after they sign the big money contract probably because they've already secured their future and don't have to worry about losing money on their next big deal. Seems like most players focus only on the offensive aspect of their game(homerun power mostly) because a lot of player incentives in their contracts focus on their ability to hit homeruns, RBI's, and runs scored.. I'd like to see management give contract incentives for taking walks, fewer strikeouts, and fewer errors.. that's what really wins games in the league today.

Dear Mr. Lieber, Mr. Marshall, and Mr. Gallagher:
We just wanted to thank you for giving us some extra batting practice today. We have been struggling but thanks to your constant use of fastballs down the middle of the plate, it has given use new confidence at the expense of your consistantly rising ERA's.
Sincerely,
The Cincinatti Reds Baseball Team

Today's highly sought after Bonehead Award goes to Leiber after his poor start. However, I don't expect him to win many of these awards as he will probably pitch better than he did today. Well, I sure hope he does anyways.

By the way, our laughable band of ugly underachievers has gone 2-5 since Alflubbo Sorry-clowno returned. He's now vaulted his average to an astronomical .181. Now tell me that this guy doesn't have a detrimental effect on this team! Just think how many runs our comedic Cubbies would have given up if Alflubbo had started in LF. Oh, never mind. Well at least we can say we took one game off the Big Red Machine in this crucial series. Yeah, right.

Not to worry though. We're only going through a speed bump, and, after all, we have a brilliant manager who will guide us to the Promised Land through thick or thin as many of you contend. Uh-oh, I think I'm going to be ill...

I was listening to Waddle and Silvy on ESPN radio this morning, and Waddle told the listeners what I have been saying for months. The Cubs dont have a playoff pitching roster. Zambrano, Tanner-I mean Lilly, Dempster, and Trachsel, I mean Lieber. We're going nowhere in a hurry if we even make the playoffs. If we don't, Jim Hendry should be shown the door.

The recent struggles the Cubs have run into could have been avoided had K Fukudome not made the cover of SI! It's a conspiracy I tell ya!
