Thick & Thin

The Cubs are in the thick of it now as they start a big 10-game homestand today against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the team with the best record in the majors.

Quick news update...LH Scott Eyre is back from the DL and LH Sean Marshall has been sent to AAA Iowa, where he'll join the starting rotation. Rich Hill, Kevin Hart and Marshall all are starting now at AAA with Sean Gallagher here in the Cubs bullpen, so if more tweaks need to be made to the rotation, the Cubs do have some options. Jon Lieber is scheduled to make his next start on Tuesday vs. San Diego.

It's a cool, overcast afternoon on the North Side. The wind is blowing in from the N or NE, but balls were jumping out of the park in BP, so let's just say it's a thin wind (quoting my partner BB on that great description).

Have a great weekend!

Len

Oh yeah, right, we've been sitting on the edge of our proverbial chairs waiting for Scary Er-rie to return to the mound. OO-wee, I'm sure the opposition is shakin' in their boots as we speak. I'm wondering if he shed a few pounds during his rehab. I sure hope so. He sure fits in well with many of his teamates too; I hear he's a clown.

Hey Scottie, try to get off to a good start for a change OK? We serious Cub fans are not in the mood to see our bull pen mess up like its done much of the time this season already. So get off to a good start or retire OK...or wait, better yet...go to some other NL ball club so you can pitch batting practice to our Cubbies!

Good job today, though, by Magnificent Marmol and Calamity Kerry. They really did well. Kerry still has a long way to go to make up for all the grief he's brought us loyal Cub fans though. Maybe ten years worth? And its about time we got a decent start from Terrible Ted Lilly. He still looks like a lobbing lefty batting practice pitcher though.

Meanwhile, good luck to Marshall. He was OK MOST of the time while he was in the majors this season. I look forward to watching him pitch at AAA on MiLB.com. And he should be back soon enough...especially if/when Scary Er-rie screws up.

Finally, congrats to Geo Soto for his rookie award. He looks like a great prospect with very few holes in his game. I just hope some of the bad habits from some of his mediocre, lazy teamates don't rub off on him.

I'm sorry to disappoint you that I have no Bonehead Award today. The club played well enough to win for a change today with no major debacles. Can we go for 3 in a row, given that yesterday was an off day? What do y'say guys? We can only hope...and pray...for miracle.
