Help wanted for Monday Memo
We're going to attempt to get out of Buffalo later this morning, although the winds are whipping and the snow is falling.
The Monday Memo might therefore be delayed, although that might not be such a bad thing. Last week, we threw out the question of who was the smartest person in the NFL on Sunday (it was Brian Westbrook and Jon Runyan of the Eagles, who figured out it would be best for Westbrook NOT to score a touchdown because of clock management reasons).
This week, we'll ask another one: Who was the dumbest player in the NFL yesterday and why.
(And don't forget. Any suggestions for special teams player of the week and statistical anomaly of the week are welcome.)

The dumbest I saw had to be Chad's pass to Bullock in the end zone. There wasn't a green shirt in sight.
Does going to Buffalo to cover a game in late December count as a dumb play? Or going to Buffalo period?
If Skin's and Eagles win next week, there won't be a team in the nfc east with a losing record. Has this ever happened before?
Statistical anomaly of the week: New England trounces Miami, despite four turnovers including two Brady picks and failing to score in the entire second half for the first time all season.
Dumbest coaching move of the week: Allowing Kyle Vanden Bosch to tee off on your fragile quarterback by letting him and Albert Haynesworth go up against total amateurs in an attempt to find the next voiceless Pete Kendall.
Stupid player of the week: Warren Sapp--need I say more?
Mangidiot taking points off the board... duh?
And with points so hard to come by... double duh!
Can we nomimate dumbest announcers of the week? If so, please put down the Albert/Johnstone/Siragusa crew. You can put them down every week.
Tarvaris Jackson, on all week it was clear that the redskins were going to focus on stopping Adrian Peterson and see if Jackson, who had thrown three interceptions the prior week against Chicago, could beat them with his arm.
On Minnesota's first drive, Jackson threw an interception to a guy who USED to wear purple, but now plays for the Chiefs, Fred Smoot.
It was all up hill from there and the Vikes are still fighting for a wild card spot.
I would like to know Bob's opinion on the Jets dilemma, keep the three points or take a first and goal (from 8?).
I would think every team in NFL would choose the 1st and goal, with the thinking that a touchdown is more valuable than a field goal.
the Anti special teams player of week: Jon Ryan from the Green Bay Packers, who had 2 punts blocked (1 for a TD, the other for a 1st and Goal), one bobbled snap and a tackle for a loss on 4th down, and another punt that went like 9 yards. Where are you Ray Guy?
I go with NKR...Dumbest play was going to Buffalo
Also...never take points off the board...unless you have absolutely nothing to play for...wait a minute.
I still don't understand that logic. You scored three points, but you get an automatic first and goal. Which means you have three more chances to score a touchdown. 7 is better than 4. I would think keeping the 3 points is out of the Herman Edwards school of coaching.
Karl:
Bill Parcells drilled that "never take points off the board" riff into my head, and I'll never let it go. Think about it like this: If the Jets keep the points on the board, they are in position to win it with just a field goal instead of having to score a touchdown. That can be all the difference.
I understand, but I still find it hard to believe Parcells would decline a first and goal and take 3 points in the first half of a ball game. The Bears did that to the Packers in the first game of the year on a field goal penalty. They took the penalty and ended up scoring a touchdown. Wish they would have taken the 3!!
