Wouldn't you like to know?
Unfortunately, Coles isn't talking.
He wasn't around after the preseason game against the Browns on Thursday night.
And he wasn't around after practice today, despite the fact several reporters asked to speak to him.
So, what's at work here? The hunch here is that Coles is none too happy about Chad Pennington being thrown overboard to make room for Brett Favre.
Coles has been a staunch supporter of Pennington over the years (they were both drafted in 2000), and it was Pennington who re-did his contract in 2005 to bring Coles back to the Jets in a trade with the Redskins. Coles was also not happy when the Jets benched Pennington last season in favor of Kellen Clemens.
Coles is one of the most thoughtful and outspoken players in the Jets' locker room, and he's got plenty of influence among his teammates. That's why it will be very interesting to see just what he has to say about the Favre trade.
If he has anything to say at all.

Mr. Coles job is to catch ball thrown in his direction by the Jets quarterback, whatever his name might be. When he starts paying the salaries of his fellow teammates, then he can have something to say about moves the team makes. Until then...who cares? Too much concern about non-entities. Just play the game and keep quiet.
Thoughtful? If he did any thinking he would realize the Jets are an NFL team and not the local golf league and although he is friends with Chad, Favre gives the Jets more of an opportunity to win NFL games.
You'll be happy to know I've been killing time watching water polo at 2am by reading your blog.
Thank You, Bob. Thank You.
I can't believe Jets fans are on Coles for NOT speaking his mind on the subject,
First of all, if he is upset, and feels his comments would be detrimental. he's doing the right thing by keeping his mouth shut until he has come to come to terms with it. I applaud his restraint.
Secondly, it's nice to see a little loyalty from an NFL player. As we saw last year with Kendall, most are just out for themselves.
As for Georges comment above, with all due Respect George, Coles may not be paying anyones salary, but he knows who pays his. He also knows he wouldn't have gotten that fat contract if Chad hadn't renegotiated.
Coles is right to keep his mouth shut until he comes to terms with the personnel change. He will come to terms, and this will become a non-issue and in January we won't be talking about Coles set the tone for the season by his distraction in camp.
