Herm Edwards gets the heave ho?
Looks like Chiefs new general manager Scott Pioli is heading in a different direction for his head coach.
Todd Haley, anyone?
Or maybe Mike Shanahan.
(UPDATE: It's official. Edwards is out. Still no definitive word on whether Shanny is the guy, but all indications are pointing in that direction ... or not: According to NFL Network's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have had no contact with Shanahan.)

With Edwards gone what will happen with clock expert Dick Curl?
ESPN is reporting that Shanahan is in negotiations with the Chiefs to become the next head coach of the Chiefs. Bob, isn't the Chiefs suppose to interview a minority candidate under the Rooney Rule before Pioli and Clark Hunt hired a head coach?
To hell with Shanahan, I'm more curious about Dan Reeves interviewing to be offensive co-ordinator for the 49ers. What about this? He must be really desperate to get back into the league to want this type of position.

Herm sucked as a Coach, even though he "played to win the game" he wasn't smart enough to realize that sometimes you need a different approach.
Dennis, yes. It has been discussed at PFT for a couple days. Perhaps there is an unwritten understanding that a team that has just dismissed a black coach does not have meet the same standards as the rest of the league. If not they are in clear violation. Shanny strikes me as a burn out, needs to take a Cowher style break. But maybe taking personnel decision out of his hands will do the trick.

It is true that you have to interview at least one minority candidate before naming a head coach (unless, as in the case of the Seahawks, who anointed Jim Mora Jr. BEFORE Mike Holmgren retired, you designate a head coach in waiting).
I don't believe Shanahan will take the job - and it sounds at this point as if the Chiefs just aren't interested - but the Chiefs would almost certainly interview a minority candidate if they were to hire Shanahan.
