There are many, many fast players in Indy right now

The NFL's annual Scouting Combine is in full swing, and - as expected - many players have run exceptional times in the 40-yard dash.

All of which means that, well, they're fast when running in shorts on a turf field.

Here's a look at the latest times, for what it's worth.

Keep in mind, however, that 40 times alone do not measure a football player. The ultimate example of that truism: When Jerry Rice came into the NFL in 1985, he ran a 4.6 in the 40, which is considered slow by today's standards.

Before bursting onto the scene of Dancing With The Stars, Rice enjoyed a fairly productive NFL career.

Top honors in the 40 so this year go to Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, who clocked a 4.30. Bey was born two years after Rice came into the NFL.
