Blitz not high on Mike Singletary's vibe these days

(He's not high on hallucinogenics either.)

Bob Mantz takes Mike Singletary to task for taking quarterback Matthew Stafford to task for being uncomfortable with questions about Staffords' parents' divorce. Among other things, Mantz suggests it's inappropriate for a football coach to delve into such matters.

I dunno. If you're gonna fork over millions in salary and signing bonus for a quarterback, I don't think it's completely out of line to ask a guy about how he handled a traumatic experience in his life. Then again, I don't know if Stafford's personal feelings about his parents' divorce would come into play as he's driving a team for the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.

Whatever.

I think its an excellent question.

By asking him a deeply personal question, out of the blue, Singletary can tell alot about Stafford by the way he handles the question. A bit of insight in how a man generally responds to unexpected, emotional issues. Its absolutely proper, before spending millions, to test someone like that.

So long as Singletary kept his pants on during the interview, I see no problem. ;)

I want to know why the NFL is allowed to ask this
question when it would be illegal for Singletary to
ask it of a salesperson he was considering for his
car dealership.

I also want to know why the hell it isn't illegal for
Singletary to announce a psychologists findings to a
radio show. No HIPAA in the NFL?

I was on SIRIUS with Larry Krueger this a.m. on
MadDogRadio and he said that the 49ers also had
some odd 'tests' that caused them to go with Alex
Smith over Aaron Rodgers - but that is another matter.

You are not allowed legally to even ask what is the
name of a 'relative' in case of emergency. This question
must be phrased, 'what is the name of the person you
want contacted in case of emergency'.

There is no way this is a legal form of questioning unless
the NFL has a special exemption. And even if they do...
there is no way it was legal for the coach to release the
information publicly.

Bob G. - Can you find out if there is some legal
exemption for the NFL to ask these questions AND
for Singletary to have released the info?

A prospective empolyer is not allowed to ask the NAME of any of the applicant's relatives unless the relative works for the potential employer already.

Go get 'em Mantz.....You are DEAD ON here.

Singletary, the Niners and the NFL are so far out of bounds here, it's gonna take 'em a series of downs just to get back on the field again.

Publically airing a shrink's findings without written authorization from the patient and doctor?
(assuming that there isn't).
Tsk, Tsk.....there's a lawyer or two in the Bay area chomping at the bit to get there hand's on that one.

505 - you know even the generic psych testing tests - you don't release the damn results. Compound it with it being Singletary (who was annoyed that the pants dropping incident was made public) and it is annoying. Interesting to see if Mr. G can get us an answer on how they are allowed to use this line of questioning and whether Stafford signed a waiver that then allows it to be released. Like the 49ers were going to have a shot at him anyway. Morons.
