New football league to have a team in NY ... mostly

The new United Football League, set to kick off later this year, will have a team that will play at least some - but not all - of its games in New York. The four-team league, which also includes franchises in Las Vegas, Orlando and San Francisco, will have several games aired on the Versus network. The season will conclude with its championship game on Thanksgiving Weekend.

The New York franchise will have most of its home games at CitiField, but will also play games in Hartford to attract a more regional audience. It is expected the league will announce tomorrow that Ted Cottrell, the former Jets defensive coordinator, will be the head coach of the New York franchise. Former Giants coach Jim Fassel will coach the Las Vegas team. It is also expected that former NFL head coaches Dennis Green and Jim Haslett will coach the other two teams.

The UFL was founded by San Francisco investment banker Bill Hambrecht. The league's president is former NFL executive and agent Michael Huyghue.

It goes to show even in a depression people have money to throw away. Most home games in NY? They have 3 so 2 in NY and 1 in Hartford. They should play at Columbia it would look more filled with the 250 people they will draw.

How much you think the PSLs will cost? Citifield/Hartford...

What, no games at Stony Brook?

Stop the sarcasm, we can watch minor league baseball, but lower level football is supposed to be a joke. Some of these athletes may not be good enough for the nfl but would like to live out a dream and play football, why not? Maybe we are the idiots here, we would rather pay PSL's and huge ticket prices or be shut out because the jets or giants are sold out and not pay twenty bucks to see some professional action. Hell maybe I can afford to even take my kid to this one. Whats wrong with seeing some secondary pro ball, it will also be the first pro game in NYC since the eighties' that is really cool. Give it a chance. The more football the better, why not.
