All quiet on the Giants' trade front ... for now

There seems to be an assumption that the Giants will trade for Browns receiver Braylon Edwards, but so far, there is nothing. That all could change with one phone call, but as of now, we're told that the Giants simply don't want to give away at least two high picks in exchange for the elite receiver.

If, however, things do pick up in the coming days - or perhaps when the clock is running on draft day - and a deal is made, Edwards would join a locker room that will be demanding as far as his attitude.

Justin Tuck, perhaps the most respected leader in the room, minced no words yesterday when speaking about what's expected of a guy like Edwards. Here's my column on the subject.

Bob,
I thought this would be of interest, given the future of media discussions that pop up here for time to time:

http://business.theatlantic.com/2009/04/is_it_time_to_charge_for_content.php

Key points, explained at the link(s):
1. The best model is a mix of paid and free content.
2. You can't charge for exclusives that will just be repeated elsewhere.
3. Don't charge for the most popular content on your site.
4. Content behind a pay wall should appeal to niches.
5. The narrower the niche, perhaps the better.

Alan Murray's thoughts not mine, he is one of the few making the model work.

I find it interesting that Tuck said what he said about Edwards. But when it came to Burress, Tuck along with Brandon Jacobs and other teammates had no problem wanting Burress back despite his antics like being fined by the Giants 50 or more times or shooting himself on the foot. To me that's a double standard. You can't have it both ways. Bob how can I take Tuck's word seriously about Edwards when he and his teammates were willing to take back Burress before Burress was released by the Giants.

Very good point, Dennis. I think in Tuck's mind, Burress was willing to abide by the rules if he had been allowed to return. Otherwise, you're right. It's a double standard.

Dennis and BG-

Its called setting the tone. Burress was with them already, and part of the family. Things developed. They dealt with him as best they could.

But when potentially starting a new relationship, you set parameters, especially right after another relationship that didnt work out.

A boss who had a subordinate with whom he was unhappy with the lack of willingness to work OT, will stress its importance when interviewing.

A gal dating a new guy will be especially sensitive to issues she had with her last boyfriend.

Justin is just laying the groundwork for a good relationship.

Not a double standard at all. Just learning and progressing.
