Months after stroke, Robby Felix signs with Ravens
It took Robby Felix a bit longer than expected, but he can now pursue his dream of playing in the NFL.
The former UTEP center, who suffered a stroke after his final home game last season, rehabbed furiously in the ensuing months to get a shot at the NFL. He went undrafted and wasn't included in the first wave of free agent signings.
But now he has his shot with the Ravens. Here's a pre-draft story I did on Felix, which includes some great stuff from the only other stroke victim to play in the NFL - New England's Tedy Bruschi.
"There was a point where I thought I was finished playing, and I'm sure Robby has had those thoughts," Bruschi said. "You think, 'This is impossible.' The questions he asked me were the questions I had hoped I could ask someone else. I wish I could have talked to someone that had put a helmet on their brain and could go out and play football, but there was no one. I called my doctor and asked who I could talk to about a similar experience, but he said, 'Tedy, you'd be the first.' With that came a different sort of burden."
