Del Rio: "I think Lombardi's probably rolling over [in his grave]"
Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio must be feeling the affects of the hot seat he's planted on after last year's 5-11 finish, because yesterday he lashed out at defensive tackle John Henderson for missing a second straight day of OTAs.
The 30-year old Henderson (a Pro Bowler in '04 and '06) took a second day off after suffering what Del Rio termed a "minor" shoulder injury.
But Del Rio was far from done with his criticism.
"I would think that [Vince] Lombardi's probably rolling over [in his grave] right now," Del Rio continued. "John's got a shoulder that back when I played, even prior to [then], I don't think anybody would've ever missed a snap for it. I think it's a minor bruise of sorts. It's not something that should keep anybody out of work. But he feels like he can't go, so we'll let him wait until he can.
"It's disappointing to see him pull himself out, quite frankly. So what he does, that's up to him. But we've got a team out here working hard that's committed, and I'm not going to slow down and worry about somebody that's finding his way out of a drill."
Henderson, who has missed three games the last two seasons due to injuries, declined comment through a team spokesperson.

Care to explain what Del Rio may hope to accomplish by calling out such a good player?
He ain't missing a snap, it is the offseason afterall.

LT, I happen to agree with you. I understand this guy may have a history of nursing injuries, and that you want to set the tone early coming off a dismal season. But you have to pick your battles, especially before training camp starts. So if a veteran, especially one who has given you two Pro Bowl seasons, wants to sit out an OTA, you really can't gripe about it. This little stunt reeks of a coach on the hot seat trying to save his job before he really has to.
