Two Glovers making news on the same day
Could it be just a coincidence that on the same day Lucas Glover wins the U.S. Open that six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle La'Roi Glover decides to call it a career after 13 NFL seasons?
The football Glover made a name for himself with five very productive years in New Orleans, including a career-high 17 sacks in 2000, before moving on to Dallas. He recorded 21.5 sacks in four seasons with the Cowboys and has been in St. Louis the last three years.
Glover, who was drafted out of San Diego State by Oakland in the fifth round of the 1996 draft, concludes his career with 83.5 sacks, which is fifth among active players.
He lettered in wrestling (he was a heavyweight) and track (as a shot putter) at Point Loma High in San Diego, where he played his high school ball with J.J. Stokes.
Said Glover in a news release: "I'm blessed that I was able to play this game that I love for so long. It has been such an incredible journey.
"I still love the game with the same passion I had as a young player in high school, so I plan to always be attached to it in some way, whether commentating, working in the front office, or scouting. But who knows what opportunities await in the next chapter of my life."
Hmm, I wonder what Danny Glover's up to today...
