Vince Young on suicide: "That's absurd"
In an interview with E:60's Michael Smith, Vince Young said that he contemplated sitting out the rest of the 2008 season after throwing two INTs, injuring his knee and hearing boos in a narrow Week 1 win over Jacksonville, but not suicide.
"I didn't want to kill myself. That's absurd," Young said. "Because I love my life, like I said. I love everything going on in my life. I love my family. I love everything that's going to happen to me in the future."
The Monday after the Jags' game (Sept. 8) Young didn't show up for a scheduled MRI on his knee and the Titans had police look for him. Later that night VY left his house with a pistol, which he told Smith he always carries for protection.
A police report surfaced after Young was found saying the then 25-year old quarterback had mentioned suicide.
Hard to imagine someone would consider suicide because of football, but Young said that the expectations on him were great heading into the season. Young had only known success in his football career, from a national championship at Texas to winning offensive Rookie of the Year in his first pro season.
But he regressed in his second year, throwing 17 INTs with only nine touchdowns, and was feeling the heat at the beginning of his third season.
Said Young: "I was that hurt from the boos. All the different things that were going on, man, it was so much for me I didn't want to play no more."
