Why are the Falcons hanging on to Michael Vick?
The team indicated several weeks ago that Michael Vick was not in their plans for this or any other season. So why is Vick still on the roster?
Call it the “never-say-never” factor. Sources familiar with the Falcons situation tell me that the team is pretty much resigned to the idea that they will release Vick – probably late in training camp – once his status is decided by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
The never-say-never part comes in with other teams: The Falcons feel that it’s worth it to hang onto Vick on the possibility that a team might be willing to fork over a draft pick in a trade. The Falcons got a tepid response from teams when they held discussions at the Scouting Combine in February, but felt it was worth a shot to see if any further interest would be generated over the summer.
Bottom line: If no trade partner can be found before the start of the regular season, the Falcons will release Vick sometime before the opener.
As for the timing of a potential Vick reinstatement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has indicated he’ll take a wait-and-see approach once Vick’s sentence is completed on July 23. And even then, it’s not as if Goodell will immediately act on it. Remember, too, that Goodell has the authority to slap Vick with an additional suspension, although I’m told that if the commissioner hears the right things from Vick, Goodell is inclined to reinstate him with no further punishment.

Funny how many teams aren't salivating at a player who hasn't played for 2 years and in his prime wasn't very good at his position. True he was exciting but then Will Ferrell would be an exciting player too...
Yeah a 3 time ProBowler in only 4 actual full seasons of starting wasn't good?
2 of those seasons, took the team into the playoffs, and another season broke an NFL record.
For the first time since the inception of the franchise, 6 straight seasons of sold out season tickets, primetime games galore even after a 7-9 season.
Its 32 teams in the NFL, 3 QBs on each. You are just plain hating for no reason to suggest Vick can't beat out 2/3rds of those right now. 2 years as if he was bedridden? Guys are out with INJURIES for 2 seasons.
All Vick has been doing is working out everyday and channeling his anger to take it out on a defense, which he will most certainly have the opportunity to do. Why? Because you'll watch, and everybody else pretending like he shouldn't be reinstated will watch too.

In Vick's prime he was a low 2nd, top 3rd tier QB. Better than most, but not elite. He was probably 6-12. 6 being very generous. Its just not worth the PR hit you're gonna take with a QB that probably cant win you a Super Bowl.

As far as additional punishments for Vick..has he even been suspended 1 game??? Or could he not play bc he was in prison?? This is Bertuzzi all over again.
