Roger Goodell has made a decision on Michael Vick...

...but we won't know what it is until next week.

NFL sources told ESPN's Sal Paolantonio and Chris Mortensen that Goodell will announce a conditional reinstatement of Vick, which would allow the 29-year old to attend training camp if signed. However, Goodell is also contemplating a four-game suspension.

Said the league source: "Can we suspend him in basically double jeopardy? That's the question."

Vick's indefinite suspension lasted the duration of his 23-month sentence. No teams have publicly stated their desire to sign Vick, and a further suspension obviously won't help lure suitors.

Said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello: "This is a serious matter. We are engaging in a careful and thoughtful process and no decisions have been made."

Vick and Goodell met in New Jersey on Wednesday and, according to SI.com, the sitdown lasted three hours.

I'm no legal expert, so I'll pose the question to the readers and hopefully someone can answer me: Does Vick have any legal recourse against the NFL should he be suspended further?

Like Mr. G, I feel like Vick deserves a chance to play. The guy already lost two years in his prime, and I feel his punishment, while just, should come to an end.

Anyone can sue for anything.

Vick is fated to play, though rumors raised much conjecture.

But he was never punished by the league. Just society. Sorta like Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi wasn't suspended (I mean 18 games?!?!?) and then the league went to a lockout and he was allowed to play when he returned.

there was no suspension here. He could have played but he was arrested. Weak. Very weak.

I work with the Humane Society and I also love football. How could you let this killer play football again? What message are you sending to kids. You can do this to animals and go to jail for a short time and then go back like nothing happened.

Here's where I differ with you guys/gals...Bertuzzi's hit could have killed another player during the course of the game. So yes, his suspension was bogus.

Whether or not Vick was suspended or jailed, he still couldn't play. He sat out two full seasons during his prime, when he was still under suspension by the NFL.

Roberta, what message are we sending to kids if Goodell reinstates Donte Stallworth after one year? That it's okay to kill someone while drunk driving?

What Vick did was certainly wrong. But the guy has paid his penance and it's time to let him back on the field to salvage whatever is left of his career.
