One-year deal for $1-million, according to a person familiar with the negotiations. So the Giants have a veteran LB to play alongside Antonio Pierce -- where Mitchell plays, strong side or weak side, will be determined.
Unless the Giants go out and sign another veteran, I doubt this impacts their draft decision-making much. Mitchell is trying to position himself to have a strong year and earn a bigger deal next spring, and the Giants still lack depth there.

Can Mitchell play? Or is Reese hoping he stubmled onto a diamond in the rough a la Barret Green, formerly (for good reason) of the Lions.
However, even if it proves to be a good signing, I'm not going to delude myself into thinking--like Dan Sneider--that signing Joe Schmoe and John Smith will dramatically change things.
Basically, as an avid Giants fan, I want to see an attempt at significant progress: (unlike Dolan with Isiah)
What plan is he following to improve the team. What is he trying to do? Win now? Get younger and more athletic (to build a future contender)?
But fine-tuning the offense is like a scion owner choosing between spoilers
I for one am not expecting too much out of Mitchell. But if we get younger and healthier now our starters play more games and we have a chance to win more games. Had Arrington and Peetigout and 64 year old Strahan and Toomer stayed healthy all season the Giants would've been 11-5 or 12-4, not 8-8.
