No Visitors, But A Familiar Name

Kevin Curtis did not make it to see the Giants today, and perhaps he'll never make it -- remember, he wants to sign with the Lions, people. We'll see if he shows up.

But the Giants did make a competitive offer to K Jay Feely today, coincidentally after word got out that he was being wined and dined by the Dolphins. A person with knowledge of the situation said Feely also has interest from the Falcons and that the Giants' offer is worth considering; now that the bidding has begun in earnest, Feely may sign as early as tomorrow.

That'd be a kick (no punt intended) -- the first guy the Giants sign in FA is their own kicker.

I thought he had issues with the Falcon's management before coming here?

I want to know what is GM Jerry Reese waiting for, it seems all the good players will be gone, when he decides obtain any decent player from free agency

This is becoming a joke. The Giants are doing nothing. Not even a few visits. I am embarrassed as a Giant fan. Did Reese underestimate the Free Agent market?? Now he is going back to Feely after talking tough about this rookie Free agent kicker waiting in the wings. He needs to sign Rhodes, Rod Hood and CAto June (or players comparable to those 3) Actually, are there any left?? Giants could be in for a major rebuilding year with expectations no higher then 8-8. Coughlin cannot be happy as this is his ticket out of town. He can't win playoff games if the Gmen downgrade. Reese needs to close big here if the Giants have any plans of competing for a division title next yr.

But it is ok, he loves Guy Whimper......geeesh

nudd, I agree with you on all of this is becoming an absolute joke. But what do you want Jerry Reese to do? This offseason has been absolutely ridiculous. When offensive linemen (who are not Pro Bowlers) are receiving over $7 million per year and a solid cover man becomes the highest paid defender in football, one must take a step back and wonder what is going on.

Now, that being said, Reese needs to fill some positions here unless he is prepared to go into the season with undrafted free agents taking over starting and backup positions. I thought Dominic Rhodes and Rod Hood would be solid depth players to bring in. I still believe Cato June to be a disaster in the making. He is an undersized linebacker who is mediocre at best against the run. I can see him becoming a punching bag for Giants fans to hate on when he gets manhandled by bigger linemen.

i feels like reese isnt doing his job yet because he cant sign any player yet? oh come on! He should sign 3 players right away (Rhodes, Hood, and June) to improve Jints.

to mike,
June can tackles very well even if he is undersized... If he's stuck, he could tackle offense players' legs and BOOM! Offense players falls down..

coughlin must be angry? you better believe it but how about vets like shockey, strahan, pierce, plaxico who want to win now? who is calling the shots here ? jerry reese or chris mara who reese is forced to have on his staff? is reese the lowest paid gm in the nfl?

Reese hasnt been great in the draft the last few yrs either-He seems to get a few good players but never a stud early. Webster has been a bust and players like Tim CArter and even S Moss. I dont like little recivers. I know we have to give Moss another chance but Reese has been spotty in the draft at best. Now he cant sign anyone....I understand the money is ridiculous but u guys have to understand that the cap is going up again next yr. Teams are now locking up their players early and we will haVE THE same situation next yr. A lot of teams with $$$$ but not a ton of talent. You have to up the ante and bid higher for these players whether its a Guard, tackle, saftey etc.. Times are a changing and the Giants are subtracting rather then fine tuning.

This so-called gm of ours is an utter joke! I personally feel like Reese has no idea what he is doing. I don't think we should pay any one player millions, but come on? At least spend some money for crying out loud! Why are still not doing anything when everyone else around the N.F.L, excluding some, are signing players left and right! Memo to Jerry Reese: the draft alone is not going to save this team, ok??? We need help, start by signing a free agent or two and maybe trade for someone! Open up that wallet!

give reese time. i know he didnt sign anyone yet but its still early. think about it players like june are gonna be dropping their prices because no team is gonna need then cuz everyone is spending rediculous amounts of money on players and players like him will be begging for a contract. (i hope anyway). he didnt even meet with one team yet. i think in the end of all this the giants will sign rhodes and hood and possibly cato june or kawika mitchell who is not a bad player either. and maybe even kevin curtis since the giants have no good three reciever. and if you think about it teams in the division like washington are spending big bucks on two players one of which is mediocre coner and the other is an average at best line backer. and now they have no money to get anyone else. the giants need a corner, two linebackers (three if they dont keep short) and a rb even though brandon jacobs is a stud. so giants fans i urge you to relax and just watch it happen.

John - All I can say is that I hope you're right. The problem I have with Reese is will he spend the money to sign Rhodes, June, Mitchell, and/or Hood? I have the feeling he won't. Regardless of their asking price. This guy, as well as the Giants organization, just seem too cheap to spend any money what-so-ever... I mean, here we are Day 6 of free agency, and all we have signed is one of our own, O'Hara? C'mon already?? Like you mentioned, we need a corner, linebackers, and a rb. The draft is not the answer, sorry... Reese, if you're reading this, do something! Spend some money!

i dont thikn they are afraid to spend money. i just think that these players are amking too much of it and they would rather get a bunch of averager players at lower prices than two star players and not get anymore players. but i think they will start to spend money. they just havent seen enough players yet and sometimes players wont accept first offers because they wanna test the market like rhodes. just give it a little more time and they will have signed some players

John - Like I said before, I hope you're right. I wish I could be as optimistic as you, though. As for the average players, the Giants better move quickly and sign these guys before they're gone, too.

Maybe there is another factor to consider here. The Giants are a sinking ship.

Why would high-quality players want to come here? Before blaming the GM--and I don't think he deserves a pass--let's first consider why awesome players would want to come here.

If june, rhodes and hood, for instance, got a taste of winning and have winning attitudes, why would they want to come here?

All the current Giants seem to do is beat their chests when they give up 8 yards on first down and blame everyone else when someone calls them for being clowns.

Money and costs of living being equal, would anyone here want to apply for (or stay) at a job with that nonsense going on?

Carl Banks put it best during the season. None of the Giants respect anybody. LT is the greatest defensive football player of all time--yes, all time. At the end of the day, he knew who was boss.

That's why the Giant's will continue to lose. That is why, they won't sign anyone worth keeping

this reuben drougns thing is just the beginning. word on the street is that the giants are in teh proccess of setting up a meeting with cato june and his agents. and apparently there is this 19 year old defensive tackle in the draft that the giants are very intersted in named amobi okoya. who know what he can become but he is worth a shot. if the giants can sign june then all they have to do is either resign brandon short or get another linebacker like kawika mitchell who will request little money. then they can get the rest in the draft. if corey webster plays to his potebtial next season then we will have no worries about the secondary. like i said. just give it time

and they are being smart about june because they are waiting to see the market for june (which is nothing0 and that way he will take a lower price since there is virtually no interest in him in the free agency
