Arthur; I'm sitting here watching this Giants game and I am emberassed. The Defense is the worst I can remember it. Is it me or is it that every time Justin Tuck is in the game, he has an impact? Then I watch them sub in for him? The linebackers can't cover, can't run. The secondary is awful. Everything is underneath and we can't lay a glove on someone? Pretty sad. TC, JR, and "Sprags" better put their head together, b/c either the scheme or personnell is all wrong.

I'm starting to believe all those predictions of the Giants finishing last in the division are correct. Long season.

the giants stink. they are terrible. people can blame eli all they want, but the 2 biggest reasons they stink are first, the defense. everyone who ever saw an NFL game in this galaxy knew after last season the giants' first need was defense. good free agents were available, and they had cap room and the draft to fix it, but the defense actually got worse not better. for that you can blame the new GM reese, who did literally nothing positive. what he did was bring back sam madison and rw mcquarters as starters in the secondary. aren't these guys who were cut by other teams before LAST SEASON ? and they start again on this team. and then, instead of stocking up on linebackers, which any imbecile could see they needed to do and could have done pretty easily, instead of that, they take kiwanuka - a rookie phenom defensive end - and move him to linebacker where he NEVER PLAYED before. second reason they stink, the coach. he is not a winner and his players do not respect him - PERIOD! shockey is still getting called for the same moronic penalties for spiking the ball - spiking the ball because HE MADE A FREAKIN CATCH. the guy is a freakin clown, he's bush league and he's not even that great. he drops 5 touchdowns and countless other passes every year. and he's still committing the same disgusting penalties because he knows coughlin doesn't have the balls to bench him. its a total absence of discipine and class - AGAIN!
they stink and are getting worse. soon - maybe already - there will be no reason to watch the games. like in the 70's. i say call cowher now!

Arthur, worst team in the league? Raiders, Falcones might give us a run for top pick in the draft. This team is awful. The defense is a disgrace. Coughlin's done, that did not take long. And Reese has not assembed talent. The players don't care and will not execute.

There is not fight in the Giants defense. Sure it will take time for the scheme to coem together but I show some quitting on defense. As for drama queen strhan, I would cut him. He is a disgrace the way he handled the end of his career and like Tiki, his legacy with the team is tarnished. I fele bad for Coughlin, yes, i actually like Coughlin although I would agree that his wasy can be petty at time, but the man is dedicated and wants to win big time. I didn;t see that will to win with the defense today, I just saw soen quiters.

Something has to change if the Giants want to turn things around in Washington next week. They have to start with rearranging the defense, move Kiwi back to end so he can actually do something on defense for a change. I wonder if Coughlin will make it the rest of the year? I doubt it.

Awful, trash, ass suckering POS. That is all.

Hey guys; I agree with you all. The team has no heart beat. The defense doesn't care. I want to see someone in someone's face.

At what point does the health factor start to bring in questions about the trainer? We are seeing guys leave b/c of cramps? You have one job, thats make sure these guys stay healthy. We are seeing way too many guys leave the game b/c of injury and its the 2nd week.

I hope I speak for all when I say I want a coach to come in; a Schoettenhiemer or a Cowher, or someone who has a plan. Lay it out. What is your plan with the defense? What are you looking for as in players? Is this your core for offensive players?

My fear is that really by the 2nd game in the season, you should not have the type of problems defensively that we are having. Big time struggles. No pressure, wide open guys, no passion.

You can blame the coach all you want, but we really need a good general manager.I'm tired of all the shoddy drafts and meager free agent signings.Reese has done almost nothing to fix the most pathetic Giants defense ever.We need a general manager who can bring in defensive talent.

I'm going to try and look at this both ways:

For one, lets not be so quick to call it a season. I've noticed a lot of people are already giving up on this team and it's embarassing. Give it time. I wouldn't be surprised if they win the next three games and start off 3-2.

What happens if they end up doing good down the road, and possibly getting themselves in the playoffs? Are you all going to come right back on the wagon and pretend you defended this team during their lows?

I'd bet you would.

But for another, if we were going to grab a new coach next season, I'd want it to be a defensive-minded coach. We know we got offense, we just need the defense. Cowher or Parcells would be nice. But big names are just... names. It would've been interesting if maybe the Giants had brought in someone like Mike Tomlin during the offseason...

But anyway, let us all be patient with this team. If they lose to Washington next week, then yeah, whatever, give up on them, you'd have every right to. I can see this team coming back from an 0-2 slump, but 0-3? No. Not a chance.

Like I just said in the "D flunked " article, it'd take a miricle to turn this thing around but hey we can always start praying. From top to bottom, this mess has to be turned in the other direction some how. Maybe the'll have a prayer in Washington next week. Who knows.

Before everyone loses their minds...oops too late...this is a new defense and I find it hard to believe anyone would expect much early. Yes the D was bad but they are only 1 or 2 missed assignment from being very good. For those of you with short memories at least this year they are chasing WR's as opposed to last year where the stood still and watched them run by. (Of course covering a TE on ANY play might be a vast improvement at this point!)
This is what all Giants fans wanted "A more aggressive defense" and we got that but it is risky and takes time for everyone to learn to cover the gaps create by being so aggressive. They not only have to know their position in the scheme but everyone elses so that when the LCB is blitzing the WLB and safties have to cheat to that side in case the pressure fails.

I too am disgusted and sad but, without all the injuries, we are not all that far from being a decent D. I guess if TC had been fired everyone would give the new HC time and while TC is still there the O and D have been 100% redone. At least it's not all Eli's fault this year. That's a bit of progress no?

Has #92 done anything for me lately? Put Tuck in the game and revert Strahan to emptying the spit bucket! Has the D touched the QB in the last 8 qtrs or are we just whistling Dixie? Listen, if the CB's suck (which they do) the D-Line and LB's must get to the QB! Is anyone playing the pass? And all we were worrying about was Eli - ha! I thought weekends were going to become less stressful...

John; names are just names? Sorry, names are proven. Parcells = proven. Cowher = proven. If they get rid of Coughlin, they need a proven winner.

I'm not giving up on this team, but when the defense gives up the most points in two games since 1966, don't fool yourself in thinking they can turn this around so quickly.

Pam Oliver reporting on the sideline during the game mentioned no life out of the Defense. More than anything, that is what bothers me - no heartbeat. If you don't have that when your 0-1 in your second game, your not going to have it when your 1-5.

KC is so right - did you see the looks on those D-faces sitting on the bench! You know, it can't just be the coaching - these guys need some pride as well. Guys are coming in and playing hurt - playing hard - Eli tried to make a tackle! Remember Shockey breaking tackles last year WITHOUT a helmet... seeing that kind of stuff makes me want to go to war - are these guys just waiting for their weekly checks? Yo D! its not business in the trenches - its BLUE-collar - its football...

KC,

Don't get me wrong, but what makes you think Parcells will do anything with the Giants after failing to win two playoffs games with the Cowboys? In my opinion, I'd say Coughlin has done better with the Giants than Parcells had with the 'Boys. Plus, I think Coughlin has the better record in the past two seasons also.

As for Cowher, I don't think he'll come back anyway. And if he does, I doubt he'll coach the Giants. Reese has already shown us one thing: "Be cheap."

The stadium will be 1/2 empty soon, that’s the only way the make changes. Remember Wellington at the end of the fassel erra. "I knew there was something wrong when the stadium was 1/2 empty before half time". Too bad he didn’t know it was the GM and the coach that needed to go. Bottom line here is the Mara's and the Tish's live off this team. You don’t make money with a team, you spend it and if you cant sell it to someone that will for the sake of the fans! Stop making a football stadium into a mall to make money. Just play and win football. Return the Giants to the once proud historic team of old!

"The stadium will be 1/2 empty soon, that’s the only way the make changes."

Oh, I don't know. I think the inevitable chorus of "Fire Cough-lan!" chants will be sufficient. And, frankly, I'm shocked that we didn't hear that by the end of yesterday's game.

BTW, I agree with KC that Pam Oliver's sideline report was very disturbing.

A couple things from everyones comments...

Top 5 pick next year for sure. KC is worse then us, Oakland at least has a D.

Reese didn't bring anyone to help Coughlin in the off season, and all their picks aside from Smith were projects or role players and weren't going to help this season.

Their LB and secondary are piss poor. Worse LB's probably in the NFL. Pierce is so overrated and can't cover anyone. Mitchell is the best of the them.

The strength and conditioning coach was fired at the end of last season (I think?). The new programs result don't look good either...

I predict a "Fire Coughlin" chant when the Jets destroy the Giants at home. Can you imagine if both teams are still searching for their first win and play eachother? Yikes!
