Plax limited in practice, more sniping from "The Media"

Except, in this case, it was two former players...

Oddly enough, Tiki Barber had something to say about Pierce's air-horn display. Can you believe Tiki speaking out like this? On Sirius last night:

"Now that things are struggling, first of all he runs away from it early in the week and now he’s refusing to answer questions by being completely disrespectful to a group of people who are just trying to do their job. That’s the job of media, ask the question. And you don’t have to answer it but don’t be rude."

And, on Sirius this morning, Shannon Sharpe:

"It’s childish. It’s childish and very trivial and totally uncalled for... Whether I caught 10 [passes] for 115 [yards] and two [touchdowns] or I caught one for five and we lost by 14, I was going to talk because if you’re going to talk when things are going good, I need you to talk when things are going bad. And that’s how it was. It never got too bad, it never got too good in order for me to talk. [If] we didn’t play well I’m going to be honest [and say], ‘We didn’t play well. I didn’t play well. Offensively we didn’t play well. Defensively we didn’t play well.’ There’s enough blame to go around for everybody. But don’t be childish. That is so ridiculous. It irks me when I see guys act like that. That’s ridiculous. Are you 14 [years old] or are you 28, 29 making millions of dollars to play a kid’s game? And you act like this?”

AP's response:

"Do they play for the New York Giants? Then I have nothing to say. I'm sorry I scared everybody (with the air horn)."

And... we're done with that.

Burress was limited (sorry for jumping the gun), he'll be a game time decision on Sunday.

Artie - You said "I do take it personally when I get lumped in with my colleagues and competitors for doing something I didn't do, just as Strahan or Pierce might get miffed if they had good games and were ripped nonetheless." I agree, there is just one problem - Strahan and Pierce DID NOT have good games or a good season, so far! I'm not sure if they were even "awake" the last 2 weeks...

PS - Loose the CD stuff - we are not here for that crap...

I hate to say it, but Tiki and S. Sharpe are right. The team captains especially should be in the heat of the media win or lose. Part of being a pro athlete is responding to the media, not ducking away after a tough loss like last Sunday. I do have to say though the air horn idea was pretty creative and "comical" as Tiki would say, but uncalled for. Just show up for a change and make plays and people will forget about this crap. GO GIANTS!

I DEFINITELY agree with the music stuff...when i see all that wasted space i dont even read, in training camp it wasnt bad but now its done, old, played out, stop. and tiki is right AP has to take it like a man YOU SUCK, dont be an ass. just dont even talk to the media if your going to do that. he prolly took more time thinking that up then watching film. grow up.

Shannon Sharpe says "I always went out and talked to the media". Come on. You couldn't get Shannon Sharpe to not talk unless you got several nails and hammered his mouth shut. Pierce may have been wrong in his dealings with the media, but Shannon Sharpe is not the person to use himself as an example.

I want everyone to go the NYPost's Giants section and read what "Plax" had to say about the team. I quote, "I've never started 0-3." I've never? I thought this was a team game? My point here is that this is the most selfish player on the Giants team. You think Shockey would play with a bum ankle? Damn right he would. Plaxico is a premadonna who has never lived up to his potential. How many pro bowls? Why did the Steelers not want him back? Why was he so available in free agency? Why can't he tackle a guy after a pick was thrown right in front of him? If we have a dissmal season, JR needs to clean house of players like this. Anthony Mix has shown promise and is the same size. Let someone else have to put up with Plax's crap, a team that is searching for its first win doesn't need too.

1) This music stuff is stupid. I come here for behind-the-scenes info that I crave as G-fan + REAL, TANGIBLE dialogue that makes me think or presents a different point of view of the team, gameplan, etc. I'm sure I'm not the only guy stepping away for a brief moment/respite from the wife, kids, work, et. al. If I wanted to put a list out there about music, I'd go to a music blog. Geez. Enough already.

2) Antonio Pierce is a moron. Be a man. Can ANYONE picture LT, Carl Banks, Leonard Marshall, Phil Simms, Bart Oates, etc. doing what he did? Honestly. Seriously. TOTAL SCHMUCK. S-C-H-M-U-C-K!

3) We already know the problems with Plax, Strahan, Shockey, etc. Enough already. Do you really care about their personality issues when we win? Do they care in other cities that some of their players are cantankerous, immature or not always team players when THEY win? You can't fill a room with 53 players and expect them all to act like Barry Sanders - talented gentlemen getting the most of their talents. Did we care when some of our players were snorting the white stuff? Look, I don't condone ANY of the aforementioned. I think they are all despicable traits. BUT, I think what we need to do more of is focus on WHY we are making an issue of these items. The coaching is not providing the environment where the players are given the best chance to succeed. PERIOD. Good coaching is supposed to get the best of players (seems to me we've finally turned the corner on offense, but the "D" is now poorly coached) and Good Talent Evaluation is supposed to fill the roster with the type of players that are talented, coachable and can gel.

I think Tiki should not have retired since he is so obsessed with the Giants. Regardless of whether AP was right or wrong Tiki clearly is a pompous jerk.

Hate to say it but I agree with Troy Aikman who questioned Tiki's leadership while with the Giants. I think it is obvious that Tiki is all about Tiki.

I think Eli will be 10 times the leader Tiki ever was.

Moving away from the press conference and back to football - Arthur, what do you think is the cause behind Pierce's decline in play so far?

I know that building up the inside of the D-line was a priority, so that the blockers don't get to Pierce and he can make plays. However, I think we have a pretty good rotation with Cofield, Robbins and Alford. Is he trying to do too much to compensate for Kiwanuka's inexperience? He's never really had very solid linebackers next to him on either side but has played well in seasons past.

100% agree about the music stuff - make it stop. it sucks. you're not Blender.

Big win. Defense markedly improved. Still need work. Got lucky on a couple of plays that were incompletes or fumbles. Good building block. Special teams was awful. Almost cost us the game. However, big win, time to enjoy...
