Breaking down the Giants playoff hopes...

Courtesy of our favorite foul-mouthed, juvenile funny boys over at Kissing Suzy Kolber -- I can't even provide a link because it's not family entertainment. But here is how they see the Giants getting into the postseason:

The Giants can clinch a playoff spot if:

Eli Manning's Citizen Eco-Drive watch instructs him how not to implode drives.

OR

Sinorice Moss applies backward running skills to backing into playoffs.

I love those guys.

Aruthur:

How about you don't call it backing into the playoffs until they lost there last 3 games, for godshake man, what are you going to say if the win this weekend? You don't have to be a d**k about it. Why are you picking on Eli? Why not pick on the WRs and running backs for dropping so many balls, 12 drops are you kidding me, that's what lost the game. And the defense giving up a td on 3rd and 9 on a draw, that is soft, give me break, leave Eli alone.

Haha. Tom G, Brenda Warner never jumped to Kurt's defense as quickly as you did the Giants and Eli right there. And that wasn't Arthur's comment. It was posted at KSK, which is a football comedy blog. Relax.

Yeah, I'm real defensive right now about the Giants, I'm dissapointed in a lot of New York fans, they give up on this team too quick and I'm not sure why? This team always seems to come back when they have too....

Im just looking forward to this Buffalo this week, should be intresting with weather conditions, lets just hope they dont throw the ball 52 times

"lets just hope they dont throw the ball 52 times"

Let's hope they don't get down three touchdowns thereby requiring them to throw 52 times.

How about the coaching staff shapen up and mix the run and pass a little better this time.

- Jacobs 130 rush yds. give him and Bradshaw more carries.
- Throw to Smith and Boss more than once.
- Throw less to Toomer
- Throw less to Jacobs
- Stop being so predictable by always looking Burress' way ELI!
- Spread out the damn field a little more.
There you have it. The "how to" on beating the Bills on Sunday.

And oh yeah, don't let Marshawn Lynch have a career day on the ground either. GO GIANTS!

Speaking of weather conditions, competent NFL quarterbacks find a way to put points on the board, regardless of conditions. Example - this game played at Shea in icy winds that got up to 40 mph at times. Somehow, the two QBs combined for over 600 yards passing. Of course, this was back before fans learned the fine art of enabling bad quarterbacks...

December 29, 1968 NY JETS 27, OAKLAND 23

With two minutes left, what the Raiders projected as the winning drive suddenly ended when, with the ball at the New York 24, Daryle Lamonica threw a swing pass to rookie halfback Charlie Smith. Smith did not catch the ball, nor did he cover it, and the play was ruled a lateral rather than a forward pass. Linebacker Ralph Baker recovered for the Jets, who were able to run out the clock for a 27-23 victory.

Despite icy winds, the Jets scored on their first drive, with Joe Namath hitting Don Maynard for the touchdown. They increased the lead to 10-0 before Lamonica responded with a 29- yard touchdown pass to Fred Biletnikoff.

New York led 13-10 at halftime, but George Blanda tied the game 13-13 with a 9-yard field goal early in the third quarter. But Namath got the lead right back when he hit tight end Pete Lammons with a 20-yard touchdown pass.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the only interception of the game was returned by George Atkinson to the New York 5. Pete Banaszak then scored to give the Raiders a 23-20 lead. But Namath took less than a minute to lead his team to another score, finishing with a six-yard toss to Maynard.

Oakland 0 10 3 10 23
NYJets 10 3 7 7 27

NYJ - Maynard 14 pass from Namath (J. Turner kick)
NYJ - FG J. Turner 33
Oak - Biletnikoff 29 pass from Lamonica (Blanda kick)
NYJ - FG J.Tumer36
Oak - FG Blanda 26
Oak - FG Blanda 9
NYJ - Lammons 20 pass from Namath (J. Turner kick)
Oak - FG Blanda 20
Oak - Banaszak 5 run (Blanda kick)
NYJ - Maynard 6 pass from Namath (J. Turner kick)

PASSING
Oakland - Lamonica 20 of 47 for 401,1 TD.

NY Jets -.Namath 19 of 49 for 266, 3 TDs, 1 int

Read and weep.....

I somehow doubt these QBs had receivers dropping every other pass they threw. Completing 19 passes for 266 yards shows that either there was a.) lousy tackling, b.) lousy coverage or c.) both.
And throwing for 401 yards on only 20 completions shows that there was either a.) even worse tackling, b.) even worse coverage, or c.) both.
For all we know all those yards could have came on screen passes. That really shows us nothing.
PS Having Don Maynard as a WR also helps. No one on this team can hold Maynard's jock.

Eli was kind of similiar to Namath's pefromance actually

Eli: 18 of 52 for 184, 1 TD, 0 Int
Namath: 19 of 49 for 266, 3 TDs, 1 int

I also doubt that the Jets had 12 dropped passes, one of which was a TD (Toomer's drop)

Eli might not have had the 3 TD's (should of had 2), but atleast he didnt throw an interception

Also, the game in the 60's were really different than the games today

Dont get me wrong, that was a horrible game, and the better team did win, but the fact is you cannot blame this game on Eli. Sure some passes were bad, but some were really good that the recievers couldnt hold on to (hitting Matthews right between his numbers and dropping it for example)
Eli got no help from his recievers, and the running game wasnt there in the 1st half. Also some play-calling is in question 3rd and 2 throwing it deep? Bradshaw picked up 8 yards on first down, they your going to throw it twice? It was a team loss, not an individual loss.

I probably will never convince you that Eli is a good QB (can he be better? yes but the recievers play a part in holding on to the ball). The fact of the matter is, Eli is here to stay, No matter what any fan say's, attacking or defending him, we really have no say in his future, but the fact is the originization likes him, and im pretty sure he will be here for awhile.

Listen to you guys. You're a pair of enablers. You're pathetic. Both of you.

My points were (1) The buck stops with the QB and (2) a good QB finds a way to score.

In the game, Namath and Lamonica found ways to score.

As for dropped passes. yeah, you bet there were dropped passes. There was a famous dropped pass in that game. Scroll up and read about it.

Namath is so overrated. He had one good season in New York and that's it. The rest of is career is average or below.

Dale Anderson smells like sh--

You can't even spell "Dale Andersen."

Okay, I'll get it right this time.

Dale Andersen smells like sh-- and is a fake Giants fan.

Poor post Dale, Poor post....

Horrible game to pick on Eli about and horrible game to pick a comparison with. The favorite statistic the media is throwing out there is 34 incompletions most since 67...which was by Namath...

Interesting statistic I read today. Giants don't have a player in the top 40 in the yards after catch category. I know it can be argued both ways but it is something to debate about. I think it shows that Eli is not getting all the help he should. Plax, Toomer, Smith and Shockey could be some of the best weapons in the league, but injuries have severly effected the Giants offense. Don't be so quick to put all the blame on Eli because of his name and realize that the Giants are 9-5 in another injury plagued year.

Every team has injuries, Yojumbo.

The Patriots have injuries. So do the 'Boys. The Eagles last year had a ton.

They don't use them as excuses to role over and die.

Yeah, we're 9 and 5. And Dallas and the Vikings and the Packers have taken us to the woodshed. We've beaten the Jets, the Falcons, the 49ers and the Dolphins.

Sounds to me like we suck. Sounds to me like a lot of people think it's okay if we suck....

Exactly Dale,

Tom G, I'm amazed that you, as an avid Giant fan can actually say the Giants come through when they need to. The 97 Vikings playoff game. The 2002 San Fran game? Mathias lets go of Vince Young and eradicates a 21-0 lead with 9 minutes left in the game? The game against the Cowboys a couple years ago when the kicker kicked the final kickoff of the game out of bounds and gave the boys a quick two second shot at Field Goal range? Which they got, of course, and won the game in O.T. Those are just some of the easiest examples I can recollect in a three minute post. Are you kidding me? When do the Giants come up big? When?
When Norwood got unlucky?
