Still nothing from the organization -- although I overheard that Jerry Reese was on WFAN from a golf outing this afternoon and will be looking into that -- but here are a few quotes from the locker room to satisfy your hunger for all things 92. It's kind of long, so I have to do the old "click below" tactic. I'll just put my favorite line of the day up here, credited to Amani Toomer:
"I think he's gonna wind up on his feet either way."
ELI MANNING
"I didn’t know what was going to happen. He’s had a tremendous career and if that’s the case then he picked a good season to go out on."
"I think everybody knew it was a possibility after playing as long as he has. He’ll have a lot of opportunities in life after football."
AMANI TOOMER
On if Strahan gave any indication he would retire:
"Just the normal ‘This may be the last time, guys.’ I never took that too seriously, but I think I take it a little more seriously now."
On the post-Super Bowl timing:
"He doesn’t have that much more to prove, but I always tell him you have to defend it. You can’t be the guy who takes his ball and goes home after he’s won a couple of games in one-on-one basketball."
On who will get the team excited in the pregame huddle:
"I don’t know. Maybe he can come back and do that for us."
JUSTIN TUCK
"It just means a lot of people are gonna have an opportunity to step up. He basically taught every defensive end in this locker room how to play NFL football. How he uses his hands, how he protects himself on certain plays in games, how he prepares for games, just about how to go about your business as a professional in this league."
"He's definitely the type of person we all aspire to have careers like. He definitely set the precident as far as modern-day defensive ends on how to play the game."
MATHIAS KIWANUKA
On his role now that Strahan is retiring:
"I've been through that whole what-position-am-I-gonna-play thing, so the only way I can approach it is to wait until I hear something. Right now I’m a linebacker, and that’s the way I’m going to approach practice coming up for this minicamp."
On the defense replacing Strahan:
"Yeah, we’re gonna get it done. That’s number one. We know were gonna have players who can step up. I don’t think one person is going to completely fill his shoes, but I think as a group we’ll get it done."
